Pomona Hotel Entry

[edit]

Hello. The wikipedia entry you wrote for the Pomona Hotel Fire appears to draw extensively from both my MFA thesis and an article I submitted to the Oregon Historical Society several days prior to your article's creation. I understand we are both members of the Portland State community and I would be grateful if you would take this down or minimize the text until such time as my work has had the opportunity to be published. Thank you. MLSchepps (talk) 19:27, 1 April 2020 (UTC)ML Schepps[reply]

Hi, @MLSchepps: This is has to be a pure coincidence, as strange as that sounds—I did write this article back in September, but I assure you I did not use your thesis or an OHS article when writing it—all of the information was gleaned from newspaper articles that are cited in the footnotes, most of which I excised myself on Newspapers.com (my username there is the same as it is here, and the clippings should come up as having been done by me). Is it possible we merely both cited the same newspaper articles?
If you did in fact submit a thesis at this same time, the similarity is purely serendipitous. The timing is admittedly very strange. I am an alumnus of Portland State but have not been a student there in many years, and I assure you I do not have access to current students' pending theses. I don't know if I can delete the article or what could possibly be done to mitigate this, but I promise you I did not crib or plagiarize of your thesis, nor did/do I have access to it. I have an MA myself and would never, under any circumstances, copy someone's work. --Drown Soda (talk) 22:00, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Boring Middle School

[edit]

Hello, Drown Soda. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Boring Middle School".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Article Assistance

[edit]

Hello Drown Soda, For about a week now, I have been working on a draft on an obscure 1985 horror film called Attack of the Beast Creatures and I am in need of some assistance tracking down some information on the film's production and releases. Since you are pretty good at gathering obscure sources I was wondering if you could do a little digging and see what you can come up with (you don't really need to add the information as I can do that part myself. If you are willing to do so please feel free to let me know.--Paleface Jack (talk) 23:35, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: I did a search through Newspapers.com and only came across a couple of mentions regarding this film's home video release; it's mentioned in this New York Daily News article, and briefly in this Los Angeles Times article. I couldn't find anything other than those, but I can check again. I looked at your draft and it looks like you have all the substantial book sources I could find from running a search on Google Books. --Drown Soda (talk) 21:06, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I found a VERY rare interview with the director today that I will start incorporating tomorrow. The main thing I need is a plot expansion, but other than that I think I am good.--Paleface Jack (talk) 21:14, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A Continued Collaboration of Sorts

[edit]

Hello Drown Soda, I just wanted to congratulate you on your continued work through various WikiProjects and offer you a proposition of sorts. For a while now I have been working on an article for the Old West serial killer Stephen Dee Richards, which was recently passed as GA. My plan with the article is to get it all up to Featured Status, but there are some tasks I want to get done on it before I submit it. Since you are also a part of the same Old West task force, specializing in roughly the same subjects, I thought it would be beneficial to have a continued collaboration on expanding articles up to Good and Featured Status, which would start with the Richards article. I have already jotted down a list of tasks that I was going to do myself but if you can help me with that, I think it will all go a lot smoother (and relatively quicker). If you are or are not interested in this, please let me know. Sincerely, --Paleface Jack (talk) 15:53, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Paleface Jack: I would be happy to assist where I can; let me know and I can try and do some work on it where I have time. --Drown Soda (talk) 17:11, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Right now I am going to be scanning over all the sources I have used in the article to see if there is anything I have missed. Depending on whether or not you would be willing to do this, I have been trying to find additional images on Richards but have been coming up near empty-handed. I did find one (an illustration on his execution) but it can only be used (hopefully) by requesting it at the Nebraska Historical Society which I have. In the meantime, I have been scouring the corners of the web in hopes of finding an actual photograph as there is a mention of it in one of the newspaper reports and behavior of such people at the time makes it likely that there is one out there. If we can both put our heads together on this we can hopefully turn up something (who knows it might be in a photo archive or something). If you can help me with this and some additional searching feel free to let me know or you can look at the list of tasks that I added on the article's talk page.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:The Virgin Suicides (film).jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in The Virgin Suicides (film)#Music. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE and MOS:TVPRODUCTION.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Notice

The file File:Cindy Wilson.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in Cindy Wilson#1976–1984: Career beginnings and The B-52's which fails WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. The photo shows Cindy Wilson and her brother Ricky performing together, but a non-free image of the two isn't really necessary per WP:FREER for the reader to understand that the two are brother and sister and that they both helped found the B-52's. Since Cindy Wilson is still living, a non-free image of her isn't needed for primary identification purposes: the free equivalent File:The B52s en Barcelona (2660131223).jpg used in the main infobox of her BLP serves that purpose. Ricky Wilson is dead, but there is already a different non-free image (File:Rickywilsontimecapsule.jpg) being used in his biography article to identify him. That means the image doesn't meet NFCC#1 if identification or to "illustrate the subject in question" is its primary purpose. The contextual significance required by NFCC#8 is also lacking since the image itself isn't the subject of any sourced critical commentary anywhere in the article and what the image represents (the two as brother and sister performing together) doesn't require a non-free image to be seen by the reader for the relationship between the two to be understood; thus, removing it isn't going to be detrimental to the reader's understanding of the relationship between the two or their involvement together in the band. The fact that file doesn't appear to have been ever added to the article about Ricky also weakens the case for its non-free use because if it's justified in the "Cindy Wilson" article, then it should also be justifiable in the "Ricky Wilson" article for the same reasons. Unless there's something particular to this image (e.g. a controversy) that somehow received critical commentary in reliable sources at the time or since then, then it's going to be really hard to justify it's non-free use in any article. It might be a unique image, but that alone in and of itself isn't really a valid justification for non-free use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:12, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While I appreciate and thank you for proof reading The Last Horror Film. The page was a complete gong show. Now I have some disagreement with some of the stuff you added.

While I may be wrong about that, I didn't think that it's partially lost film status should be locked in with releases unless. I think its two different matters.

But I do think it's doable. As the article mentions its limited theatrical release and limited VHS run.

I do think that the bit about about Troma licensing the film to Severin, was a bit much and the citation comes from Facebook, also there is nothing that confirms that they own the film prior. I feel it lacked of context and good citation.

For the Severin release, I felt you go way too deep into their packaging instead of the simple the fact of the film rediscovery. It almost feels like a promo.

I felt that David Gregory's statement, was a bit irrelevant for this article but has a place on the page of List of incomplete or partially lost films (where I moved it) and List of rediscovered film footage.

Anyways let's chat it's no worries. Filmman3000 (talk) 14:28, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Suzanna Love (1980).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Suzanna Love (1980).jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:18, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

[edit]

Hello DrownSoda, I noticed you expanded the article on Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Just wanted you to know I had a huge expansion on Leatherface, however a lot of the information needs to be trimmed and refined but some information that could be transferred into the respective film articles is there on. my archived revision draft if you want to take a look. I will probably return to refining the Leatherface article in the near future after finishing a couple more articles but until then just wanted to give you a heads up Paleface Jack (talk) 02:07, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Paleface Jack, thanks for the heads up—I will try and take a look at this in the near future. --Drown Soda (talk) 17:02, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ethan Hawke is English, Scottish, Irish and Cornish

[edit]

Robert Thurman is of English, German, Scottish, and Irish descent. Should we include all of them? Why is Swedish more important? Serendipodous 08:10, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My point was not that her Swedish ancestry was more important; it is simply that it was the only one I could find a published source for that pertained directly to Maya Hawke. I suppose you could use the citations regarding her father's ancestry as sources in her article to flesh out the rest of the picture, but I'm trepidatious about doing things like that only because the references aren't describing the subject at hand (even though common sense would likely overrule that). Obviously she has other countries/ethnicities in her background—it's just a matter of finding a reliable source that supports all of them. This is why I only listed Swedish, since it could be supported by a source which attributed it to her. --Drown Soda (talk) 05:00, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Death Bed

[edit]

Hello Soda, It's been a while since we chatted. Anyways, I have been meaning to expand the article on Death Bed since I have the proper sources to do so and saw you were editing the article. If you plan on getting it to GA, then I can help. if not, I can try that. I have a bunch of other projects I have been working in incrementally, including expanding the Eyes of Fire film entry on here via my separate userspace. I can always use your help with those things but if you are busy I understand. Paleface Jack (talk) 01:43, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Use of sources for WP:BLP

[edit]

Hi, I've been noticing that you've been using certain sites as sources for actor details such as WP:DOB. Rotten Tomatoes in particular. A few months ago there was a RFC regarding it and the consensus is that it's fine to use for stuff such as TV and movies, but not for WP:BLP as it's not a journalism site and it's main purpose is film aggregation.[3] You also can't just use whatever websites you find online that show a DOB without considering whether or not it's a reliable source. Many of them don't indicate where they got that info from and many of them have the incorrect DOB listed for other actors. For all we know they could be web scraping. That's why the consensus for Rotten Tomatoes was made.

When it comes to WP:BLP the number of reliable sources is quite slim and there are only very few acceptable options. A truly reliable Secondary source(IE a magazine such as Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times or New York Times. And preferably multiple of these) reporting their exact DOB. Or a social media post from the subject themselves where he or she confirms his or her birthday and preferably either his or her age or YOB in the same post as well. Failing either any of these, that info should kept out of articles for the time being. Kcj5062 (talk) 00:53, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Kcj5062: thank you for this information. I know reliable sources for birthdates has been a topic of contention here, but I wasn't aware that Rotten Tomatoes didn't fall under that category anymore (though I understand why—I have to wonder if some of their sourcing comes from places like IMDb, though there isn't really a way to tell). I will keep note of using social media sources for birthdates from the confirmed subjects—I tended to shy away from those because they are firsthand sources rather than secondary reported ones. --Drown Soda (talk) 01:40, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good doggy

[edit]

Sorry, couldn't resist a title like that in this context. ;-) Kudos on your expansion of Dogs (Nina Nastasia album), which you did several years ago but I only just noticed. Great work. If you ever feel like expanding the article even further, I thought I'd point you towards this. Uncut magazine did an extensive feature with Nina in July 2022, where she discussed all her albums in-depth. Unfortunately, content for The Blackened Air to Riderless Horse is exclusive to the physical magazine, but they posted the Dogs stuff online. Thought you might be interested, if you feel like expanding on your work. ;) Homeostasis07 (talk/contributions) 23:09, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Rosebush, Oregon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only cited source is a county welcome page, and it's a literal bullet-point of one word. A comprehensive history of the area contains the word "Rosebush" once, and it's similarly trivial: [4]. Without further information this article is a clear failure of WP:GEOLAND.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WeirdNAnnoyed (talk) 14:00, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Fargher, Oregon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No information found about this place other than the cited sources, one of which is a bullet-point mention. A history of the region shows that the Farghers were indeed a prominent settler family: [5], but no mention of a "community" or "town" of Fargher could be located. No appearance at all on any USGS topo map except a "Fargher Airfield" on the 2011 map: [6]. In all likelihood this was just a farm owned by the Fargher family. Without more information it's a failure of WP:GEOLAND and probably something conjured up by Sherman County so they could claim on their website they're home to several "ghost towns".

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Notice

The article Early, Oregon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

See my deletion rationale for Fargher, Oregon. This page uses the same two (trivial and unreliable) sources as that article and is similiarly uninformative. Satellite view just shows a stretch of river in a canyon, no human infrastructure. Obvious failure of WP:GEOLAND.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Notice

The article Gordon, Oregon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Same situation as Fargher, Oregon and Early, Oregon. Sources are both trivial mentions and unreliable; a history of the region mentions Gordon Ridge: [7] but never once mentions a community by that name. Satellite view shows empty farmland. Fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Notice

The article Gorman, Oregon has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Same deletion rationale as Early, Oregon, Gordon, Oregon, and Fargher, Oregon. Same two unreliable sources, one of which just seems to be a listing of onetime rural post offices so they can say there are a lot of ghost towns in the area. No mention at all in a history of the area: [8], no other information found, and nothing visible by satellite. Complete failure of WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
