Notability
Crisis!
This user believes that non-notability is a serious issue on Wikipedia.

I thought you might like this. I made it myself. It's not in a template though. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 21:05, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought you would like it. Feel free to use it however you want, and I agree that many people need to learn when to quit. That's why I created it. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 21:18, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categorizing your pages

[edit]

Hink, Your user pages are showing up on categories. While working on articles in your user space, you should remove the categories. The easiest way to do this is to turn them into a link by typing :category, so for example, instead of putting this page in the Hurricane category, it appears like this Category:Hurricanes. When you copy over the articles all you have to do is remove the colon. If the categories are from a template, start all templates with tl| this will display the template instead of using it. Any questions? Ask on my talk page. -- Samuel Wantman 08:11, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasy hurricane season

[edit]

I've seen your fantasy hurricane naminng list, so is it possible to create a fantasy hurricane season to see what would happen if similar storms occur in the real world (almost like those computer experiments that sciencets use to predict hurricanes i.e. "Hurricane Pam" experiment).Storm05 17:34, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hall of Fame Candidates

[edit]

It's time for me to select the 2006 inductees into my Hurricane Hall of Fame. Here are the candidates:

Damage

 • Indianola, 1875 - Killed 176 people, heavy damage to central Texas. Bleeding Land
 • Florida Keys, 1906 - 174+ killed, heavy damage to Nicaragua, Cuba and south Florida. Angry Sky
 • Galveston, 1915 - Killed about 400 people, only hurricane to breach the Galveston Seawall. Battered Isle
 • New Orleans, 1915 - Killed 279 people, heavy damage to Louisiana. Demolished
 • Gulf of Mexico, 1919 - Killed 600-900 people== What's next? ==

I'm not sure what's next. I'll probably take a few days off over new year's; hopefully the categories will repopulate themselves in that time. Next up are probably more improvements to the infoboxes (probably no new fields though). Then it may be time for a copyedit of existing articles - there are way too many stub hurricane articles that can probably be fleshed out, and the season articles all need a good copyedit. No Way!

[edit]

You are a God Hink! Or, at least that dude who found that link is ;). I take it the images you have were cropped from the Hemispheric images. That is fantastic. That dude didn't just strike gold, he hit the Comstock Lode! This is incredible! I can't thank you enough. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 18:18, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hink, I noted that in your last comment two days ago that you appreciated me sending you some of sat photo collection. Keep in mind that several of them are not in the public domain. Plus, I've lost the source to some of them, so be careful before adding them to Wikipedia. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 17:51, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for every storm

[edit]

For now, I agree. I have no current plans to go beyond the 2005 storms (although articles will be created for all 2006 and future storms). Articles for every storm in past seasons could be a long-term project though. However, before about 1995 (the year with the second most crowded main page), we won't have enough information to ever make pages any more than stubs on low-impact storms. CrazyC83 03:06, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with your idea, and it won't be done immediately - perhaps not for months or more. 1995 and 2004 are long enough for large-scale projects and would be done first; the rest (especially 1997) seem to be fine as is for now. However, I will support most shifts onto separate articles for individual storms (not on a large-scale basis) for now on.
The one problem comes when a tropical depression expected to strengthen forms - although it could be easily solved by giving the depression number a quick redirect to the storm (and hurricane) page as it does already now. For example for TD1 becoming Alberto (and a hurricane): Tropical Depression One (2006) --> Tropical Storm Alberto (2006) --> Hurricane Alberto (2006) --> Hurricane Alberto (if desired); all previous names becoming redirects. Menial Storm articles

[edit]

Took care of all three of them and asked the crazy user creating them to please stop creating them. Why do I have a feeling that he's either going to bitch to no end or just not listen? -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 23:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Amen -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 00:51, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Help me! CrazyC has created one for every storm in 2005, including the depressions! Depression is exactly where I'm headed right now, head first ;). I redirected most of them and left an agitated yet sane message for CrazyC asking him to stop. I'm hoping that I can at least stop the bleeding without starting an edit war. Please help me before I go nuts. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 05:56, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
True, but I don't want any jumpy admins thinking that we're starting a cult or something. But an organized effort would be more effective. Right now I'm just trying to make sure the redirects stand without starting an edit war. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 16:14, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. We've got gradually ween them off this subpage fetish. Note that I didn't redirect all of the new articles, just most of them. Arlene, Irene, Jose and Maria are still there, but I don't plan on them staying long depending on the amount of resistance we get (or I get). -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 16:33, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox small

[edit]

What do you think of the use of infoboxes for storms within a season article, like at 2005_Atlantic_hurricane_season_storms#Tropical_Storm_Cindy? Is this too long, or would it be a good replacement for {{storm pics}}? Jdorje 23:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean because the pictures are too big and there's not enough text? The only way to make it look right is to write more text. , heavy damage to south Texas. Drowning Islands
 • Hurricane Charlie, 1951 - Killed 259 people, heavy damage in Mexico. Guillotine
 • Hurricane Diane, 1955 - Killed 184 people, caused $7 billion in damage in 2005 dollars. Bird of Prey
 • Hurricane Hattie, 1961 - Killed 275 people, catastrophic damage in Belize. Nightmare
 • Tropical Storm Amelia, 1978 - 33 dead, epic flooding in Texas. Tears
 • Hurricane Juan, 1985 - For besting Gloria and Elena's bills and having nothing to show for it. 12 dead. The Torturer

Weirdness

 • Tropical Depression Kendra, 1966 - The Atlantic Basin's only named tropical depression in 55 years of naming. Overrated
 • Hurricane Ellen, 1973 - Strengthened into a major hurricane farther north than any other tropical cyclone on record, anywhere! Icebreaker
 • Subtropical Storm One, 1978 - Only Atlantic tropical or subtropical cyclone to form in January. Winter Wonder
 • Tropical Storm Ana, 2003 - Only Atlantic tropical cyclone to form in April. Early Bird
 • Tropical Storm Zeta, 2005 - Tied Alice's record, lasted longer into January than it's predecessor. It and Alice are the only Atlantic storms to form after Christmas. Final Bow

I usually select three or four from for damages and one or two for weirdness. Who are your top picks? -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 19:23, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Galveston, 1915; Gulf of Mexico, 1919 (can't ignore that high death toll); and Hattie. Weirdness: Subtropical Storm One or Tropical Storm Zeta. I'm a little hesitant about including a subtropical storm. Since you and I both liked it, Galveston's induction is almost assured. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 19:39, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess you're right. Hey, I usually induct five total, so Zeta still has a chance to make it this go-round. It might be prudent to wait for its tropical cyclone report anyway. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 19:45, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll try. It may get a little breezy down at the arena, though ;D. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 21:35, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, it's gonna be held in the Superdome this year, ha!(Lord, I apologize...) No I don't include hurricane seasons, now that you mention it. Sounds like a good idea though. I'd probably base it mostly on ACE. I'd also base it on number of storms, number of hurricanes and major hurricanes, and yes; deaths and damage. Those figures have to factor in somehow. I have a Category 5 Club and a Legion of Retired Names though. Quite a colorful bunch, I must say. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 21:51, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subtropical Storm

Never mind, the article somehow fixed itself/ Storm05 20:17, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ive fixed the Impact section of the Hurricane Kyle (2002) article. And dont say i've "stole" the information, I did my best to put it in my own words in some kind of way and that I thought that the impact was more detailed than saying (damage was minimal mostly from tornadoes). Storm05 14:29, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not just about school closings , it's just about the controversey of School Officals dismissing students in the middle of the storm (which I think is dumb decision making on the part of the officals) and the slow response from FEMA. Storm05 17:46, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But still, the poor decision making of realising students in the middle of the storm seem notable and I dont know why that didnt made the headlines elsewhere but I think this infomation is notable warrent the article to be kept. And another thing, yes the people was able to recover from the storm, but that took long also. Storm05 18:13, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2006 Inductees to the HHF

[edit]

I am proud to announce the 2006 inductees into the Hurricane Hall of Fame. I have one more than I normally induct due to the removal of an impulse addition during the 2005 season (I will not name the storm to avoid discontent). The extra inductee is marked "honorary" as it probably should already have been in there. In chronological order, they are:

 • The Florida Keys Hurricane of 1906 - This hurricane killed untold hundreds of people across the western Caribbean. The 174 figure is for Florida alone. The number from Cuba is estimated to be higher and the toll in Nicaragua is estimated to be just as high as Florida if not higher. We will probably never know the full extent of the devestation. This storm's economic impact was also incredible. Over 50% of Cuba's crops were ruined. Countless businesses were shut down for good. Nicaragua's economic infrastructure was severely crippled. The Overseas Railroad project in the Keys was set back several years. All the affected areas lost significant tourism revenue.
 • The Galveston Island Hurricane of 1915 - This storm is the only one in recorded history to completely breach the Galveston Seawall since it's completion just before the 1909 hurricane. Over 400 people died in what remains Texas' worst hurricane since the 1900 storm (out of roughly nine direct hits since 1900). Damage in the city, which had just been rebuilt from the 1900 storm, was catastrophic. Galveston's "Big Three" of those first 15 years of the century (1900, 1909 and 1915) would leave a massive scar not seen again until Florida's "Big Three" of the late 1920's and early 1930's (1926, 1928, and 1935).
 • The Gulf of Mexico Hurricane of 1919 - One of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes in recorded history; no less than 600 died at sea and along the Texas coast. The toll may be as high as 900. Dealt the shipping industry a huge blow. Key West was nearly leveled (strangely, a few random blocks suffered relatively minor damage).
 • Hurricane Diane of 1955 (honorary) - Flooding on a Biblical scale unmatched until perhaps Hurricane Agnes in 1972, already a Hall-of-Famer. 184 die in these floods. Diane's flood crest records still stand in many areas. Caused nearly $1 billion in damage.
 • Hurricane Hattie of 1961 - Nearly 300 people die and the destruction is widespread and catastrophic. It ranks as one of the worst disasters ever to strike Central America in recent memory. The destruction rivaled that of Hurricane Janet just six years previously. The damage Hattie caused would not be rivaled in Central America until Hurricane Mitch. Mitch brought hundreds of references to Hattie (usually in the context of "this is much worse than Hattie" but then again, this is Mitch we're talking about here).
 • Tropical Storm Zeta of 2005 - This year's weirdo; Zeta is one of only two Atlantic storms to span two calendar years (the other of which is fellow Hall-of-Famer, Hurricane Alice). It also lasted longer in January than any other tropical or subtropical cyclone in the Atlantic.

Special Induction

[edit]

You know, I don't normally induct storms prior to 1851, but there is one storm that cannot go unrecognized. Therefore, I announce a special, honorary mention of:

The Great Hurricane of 1780 - Currently the deadliest Atlantic tropical cyclone that we know about. Mitch currently holds the position of deadliest Atlantic hurricane on official records.

Enh, by the time you get there, I'll be flying home on my Gulf Stream, getting drunk on warm water, and getting really hot with some vigorous tropical waves ;). Bypass the Florida traffic and go through the Caribbean so you can make it in time for the party! Ha! (I'm still having too much fun). -- §HurricaneERIC§ archive 20:02, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Depression tracks

[edit]

I could do so. Problem is there's so much to do with the track map generator, and the increasing complexity of the data required makes things a lot harder.

To generate a track map, the data needs to be put into a form that the generator program can read, or the generator program needs to be extended to handle a new format. There are currently 3 formats accepted. The first is the NHC best-track-data format, as used by s:Atlantic hurricane best track. This format is basically ideal. The problem is only the EPac and NAtatlantic data comes in this format (other basins' data are converted into this format by unisys, but this is unreliable - EBrown tells me it's the advisory positions not the best-track positions that are read). The second format is the one used at http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~stevenb/hurr/05/. I found these links, which are made by a UMD guy and contain the NAtlantic advisory data in a simple format; throughout the season I used it to generate updated avisory tracks for AHS storms. The problem with this is that these reports may not be available in the future, or the format may change, and they aren't available for non-AHS basins. The third format is basically the one available in the TCRs - I took the .doc formats of the TCRs, converted them to text files, and modified my program to read those; I've used these to make preliminary best-track maps of the 2005 storms as their TCRs have been released. The problem with this form is that it is pretty tedious to download and convert the doc files, the TCR format may change, older or non-Atlantic storms don't have TCRs in this format, etc.

I have one master generator program that is capable of rebuilding *every* track map. Once the new colors are finalized I will rebuild every single one. But if depressions are included, I'll have to have a copy of the depression TCRs for this to work. Annoying.

Another issue is WPac/South/NIndian storms. JPac releases best-track data, but there is no single master copy containing all storms, the way the NHC has. This means to make best-track maps for those basins (which is next on my list, basically) I will have do download the yearly summaries and update the program to read that format. This means instead of one data file (per basin) I will have 50. Again, this just makes things harder to keep updated.

As a side note, I don't think a depression could ever be notable as a tropical cyclone because the NHC doesn't consider them to be tropical cyclones. For instance 1994's Gordon wasn't retired because it did all its damage as a depression, before reaching TS status. So it was "unnamed" at that point and wasn't really any different than a tropical wave. I think.

Jdorje 00:52, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are, finally, 2 other problems I haven't yet figured out.
The first is the knots-mph problem. Basically, is a 115 knot storm a cat3 (130 mph) or a cat4 (132.25 mph)? It seems the NHC sometimes calls these storms cat3 and sometimes calls them cat4. This shows up in all sorts of places, including Hurricane Diana (1984).
The second problem is non-six-hour positions. The best-track of Hurricane Andrew does not show that it is a cat5 at landfall. That's because landfall occurrs between 2 of the given data points (which are at 6-hour intervals), and each of those 2 points had andrew as a cat4. If you look at the "full" best-track (included in the TCRs) it includes these extra data points at the bottom. But in the best-track file they are not included (sometimes the "comment" line at the bottom has something about it, but I know of no way to read that. Thus even if I find a way to display this extra data in the map itself (which is problematic since the 6-hour intervals used now shows you clearly how fast the storm is moving; adding more data poitns would obscure this), I'd have to go to the TCRs or other data (andrew's TCR doesn't include this of course) and the program would have to be able to handle those formats.
Jdorje 00:58, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your would-be depression track is at http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=depression6bs.png. Jdorje 07:39, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's still the problem that it will never get updated. The NHC goes back and periodically reanalyzes the best-track data, but depressions don't get re-analyzed. But...I guess it's okay. We should just have a separate file natlantic-depressions.txt that has the best-track data for all the depressions, and we can keep it updated ourselves. Jdorje 16:12, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We should take them in reverse chronological order, and do all of them (all-or-nothing). Not sure how far back we should go. If there are any particularly notable ones, we can do those separately at the start (but I don't think there are...about the only notable depression was Hurricane Gordon and that ended up getting a name). Jdorje 16:43, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean "where"? If we have a track map for each depression, then each one needs its own section in the season article. Jdorje 17:27, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that sounds good. I wasn't sure if I should put them in right away once they're ready. Cool. Hurricanehink 17:38, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My todo

[edit]

I've been going through the AHS seasons. I uploaded all the storm tracks back to 1950, and now I'm merging them in. I added them to the 70s, with some changes to the articles. Now I think I will work forward from 1950 (I'm up through 1961), making lots of fixes to the articles. However I'm not adding any new content, just making technical improvements. I'm also not balancing the storm sections, although this is something that'll have to be done before any article can be qualified as A-class. I think when I'm done with the articles they'll probably all be B-class. However it would help to have more pictures. — jdorje (talk) 00:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2006 is getting off to a VERY slow start, nothing had formed yet and im getting bored. Storm05 20:05, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1961

[edit]

Why is Hurricane Jenny being listed as the 9th named storm of the 1961 Atlantic hurricane season?, is Tropical Storm Igna supposed to be the ninth named storm?. And why the Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone seasons and Pacific typhoon seasons articles being ignored?. And one final thing , is it possible to have 80 to 100 named storms in one season. Storm05 20:10, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.-Take a look at the list of disaster movies ive just finshed completing, when I stumbled on this article, it was half finished so I added more info. Storm05 20:13, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can a hurricanes sustained winds reach above 200mph? (for example 220 or 250mph). and what will happens if a hurricane (typhoon or cyclone) or tropical storm crosses the equator, will it turn into a high pressure system since high pressure systems rotate in the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere. Storm05 20:20, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Has there ever been a hurricane that has crossover from the Atlantic basin to Pacific basin to West Pacific Basin to North Indian Ocean Basin and back ? Storm05 20:31, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Im doing an article named Hypotheical Disaster, ive havent finshed it yet but if you are interested you can help adding more info. Storm05 16:15, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User subpages

Season name lists

[edit]

Compare this and this edit. Both are changes to data that has no references. I just added a {{not verified}} to the first one (I have no idea where to find these lists). You reverted the second one (which I left alone since it's a useless trivia anyway). But my question is: where do we find a master list of lists? — jdorje (talk) 04:33, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I brought it up on the wikiproject talk page...probably EBrown knows. I also reverted your revert to the Hilda article...since we don't have any sources we shouldn't make a claim either way. But I added a comment to the talk page so we can re-add it later if it's verified. — jdorje (talk) 21:04, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Troubleshooting

[edit]

Wikipedia has been acting up when I got on. Every time I click on something, it takes forever to open and the pictures has dissapeared. Whats going on? Storm05 16:05, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

[edit]

Whats a fishspinner?, why the 1975 Pacific hurricane was unnamed?, can hurricanes maintain their strength even after making landfall?, why most of hurricane landfall take place at night, and why NHC report didnt mention Hurricanes Anatol, Lothar and Martin. Wikiproject talk

[edit]

Did you mean to delete a bunch of the discussion with this change? Should they be archived instead?

We should probably make a sub-page for merge discussions, as I did for assessment discussions.

Hurricane Names

[edit]

Why there only English, French and Spanish names in the Hurricane Names for the Atlantic Basin? Surely theres supposed to be more names around the world. just look.Storm05 19:22, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

[edit]

You should add a link to your talk page to your signature. I just recently edited mine to do so. Some people have really obnoxious signatures though, I'm not suggesting that... — jdorje (talk) 08:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mystery Users/1958 Altantic hurricane season

[edit]

I see that user has asked you alot of questions again. Users like that (and some anons) are hard to figure out these days. As for the 1958 Atlantic hurricanes , Ella and Helene can stay, as for Janice well..., that something that can be talked about in the talk pages, im still leaning to keep. (as for improving exsiting articles, I can do that, unfortunetly, most of the exsiting articles have no (or very little) sources to speak off and its difficult to improve if there are no sources) Storm05 17:48, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh no, that user has come on your page again to. I've just warned that user about asking questions that are totally irrlevent. Katrina memorial userbox

[edit]
Hurricane Katrina
May we never forget…

I created this for my userpage yesterday and just put into a template. I thought you might want it. {{User:UBX/remember Katrina}} -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 00:18, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I thought Wikipedia needed to have something commemorating the disaster. I'm thinking about one for the tsunami too. There is naturally a US bias with these memorials and I think it would be good to dampen that. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:00, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nah! The 9/11 commemorative userbox was created at least a year after the attacks. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:18, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a draft:

What do you think? I welcome suggestions. I may not put it in a template though, because that image is under copyright: use for any purpose and the admins would throw a shit fit (it being allowed under Wikipedia policy aside). -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I noticed that too. I wanted "December" right below "remember" because the two words have just a two-letter difference. I don't know how I'd widen the space though. I had a harder time finding a picture for this one. It's the same size as the Katrina one but the Katrina one is closer up and easier to see what it depicts. With this one, you have to click on it to really get a feel for its power. I'll see if I can't hunt down a better image. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:38, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know, but I wanted a flare to it and I've kinda grown attached to the remember above the December. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 19:42, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How's this?

-- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 00:53, 1 March 2006 (UTC) That was the most impressive picture I could find. It is a little hard to tell what it is just from looking at the infobox though. I don't know. I've seen better pictures. Most of the better, closer up ones are probably copyrighted. So there are some roadblocks to sort out but I think I'm making progress. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:04, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, December 26 is my birthday! That tsunami was on my birthday? LOL — Hurricane Devon ( Talk ) 00:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's a small world ani't it! Dut at least my birthday being a natural disaster date isn't bad luck. But if it is, I got's my hurricane foot ;) or maybe that's bad luck :| — Hurricane Devon ( Talk ) 01:13, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Levitt AfD Discussion

[edit]

Your presence is requested at the Steven Levitt deletion discussion. Wikipedia needs to be streamlined, and we can't possibly document every godless crackpot who comes up with some inane "theory". By creating articles on people who are out of touch with American values, we only give them a platform to preach their otherwise non-notable message from. Thanks for your time. :)

Storm Pic thing

[edit]

Okay, why did you remove the stormpic thing for Typhoon Imbudo ? , it looked good on the seasonal article. Storm05 17:55, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why has no one rated the Tropical Storm Clare article? can anyone reply quickly when you see this messeage (i mean really quickly). Storm05 20:11, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I finally went through the two MWR articles carefully, and added a lot more info about damages in other areas. Also, I guess the FAC is over and the article is now FA (yours was the only objection). So: what's the next FAC article? — jdorje (talk) 08:14, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Floyd sounds good. I was driving through Kinston last weekend, and the area near the river is a wasteland. All the homes are really cheap-looking and there are abandoned falling-apart warehouses and such. I suspect this is the ongoing aftermath of Floyd... — jdorje (talk) 17:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, actually this was FA #5 - List of Category 5 Pacific hurricanes is a FL. — jdorje (talk) 23:15, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Obviously red links aren't a good thing. The answer isn't always to pipe or remove the link though. Sometimes a red link is desirable if it's to an article that should exist but doesn't. And sometimes a redirect should be made or wording changed to improve the clarity of the link. For instance, I'd argue that Leeward Island should redirect to Leeward Islands. — jdorje (talk) 22:58, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not that any of this is a big deal of course. When I write something and find a red link, I do a search to see what article the link is supposed to go to. Half the time I've just misspelled it of course. Other times I'll change the wording to point it to the correct article, or just add a redirect if I think one should be there. — jdorje (talk) 22:59, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Storm pics

[edit]

Remember, I collect them. Don't be afraid to ask me if I have any of a particular storm that we can post on Wikipedia. I noticed you managed that picture-for-every-storm project without my help just fine but don't think that just because I was against putting a picture in for every single storm that I won't help. If we're going to have them, I'd want to make sure we have the best picture we can get. I always include the best ones I can find in my archive. I know what HSEI and OSEI have and what they don't. I know GIBBS like the back of my hand. For example, I know which times of day offer the best-quality pics for each satellite. So if you need help with sat photos, I'm here. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 01:28, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hermine: Yes, Matthew: No, Nicole: yes, Danny: yes, Mindy: NRL's got a good one, Gustav: yes, Hanna: yes, the picture we got is of it at peak intensity, it just sucks; Josephine: yes. Some other pics need work too (I have a much better one of Kate from Earth Observatory for example). -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 17:40, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. -- §HurricaneERIC§Damagesarchive 00:53, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

uninflated costs

[edit]

Thank god you're adding these. I've found it so annoying that the seasons only included 2005 values. Like storm articles, the season articles should include uninflated and inflated values in the infobox. One note, though, I think you should use between every set of characters to make sure each value fits on one line - otherwise they take up 4 lines and it's really ugly. See 1995 Atlantic hurricane season for an example.
