Thanks for blocking Venaldave. My user talk page is now being vandalized by here by another person, who based on behavior is likely Mangoeater1000 (not that it matters.) Any help on blocking that user and re-protecting my talk page would be appreciated. 72Dino (talk) 15:36, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Reaper Eternal, please revoke his talk page access as he abuse while blocked. Thx. Arctic Kangaroo 14:54, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
I just noticed your change to Edit filter 499 that you made last month. I'm not sure that 499 is the correct filter for this as it is looking for a specific case instead of generic terms. I think 466 might be the better place for your additional search phrase as that one is looking for phrases. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:37, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- I fully agree with your correction—sorry for not noticing this before! Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 21:51, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Were you the one that blocked me?
Hi Reaper Eternal? If you remember a couple of months ago in November, were you the one that blocked me for sockpuppetry? Would it be in my block log or did you delete it? JHUbal27•Talk•E-mail 20:56, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Nobody has ever blocked or unblocked you for sockpuppetry or anything else—your block log has no entries in it. If an entry were revision deleted, it would show up as
(log action removed)rather than disappearing entirely. Furthermore, if I or any other admin hid block log entries to hide mistakes, we would likely lose the admin tools. I have also reviewed your userpage and talkpage histories and found that I never edited either one, so I don't know why you think I blocked you for sockpuppetry. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 21:47, 20 March 2013 (UTC)- Maybe it was my IP adress. All I know is that I had only been on Wikipedia less than a week and could not access Wikipedia for at least two weeks. Is my IP adress linked to my account? Then how come I couldn't edit Wikipedia during that time? I don't know, I was 99% sure it was you. Oh well, the past is the past, but if you know anything about my questions, please answer them. Thanks. JHUbal27•Talk•E-mail 23:39, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

are based solely on my personal view of them as unnecessarily aggressive, in-your-face, and hurtful to feelings if placed incorrectly. (Think of DeltaQuad's incorrect block of that one guy who asked the arbs to resign.) It is my belief that indefinitely blocked or banned editors should be allowed to leave this site in peace. Obviously, you can revert said edits if you find them inappropriate. Thanks. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:57, 24 March 2013 (UTC)- For what it's worth, I think you did the right on the templates. Peter Damian
Regarding this edit, note that the ARbCom agreement is void since PD hasn't kept his side of the bargain (no more socking). As for your opinion that these templates aren't useful, well, YMMV, but that's hardly a reason to remove them if other people find them useful. Why is all this courtesy applied to a user who doesn't seem to care about it anyway? Fram (talk) 08:11, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- The
{{banned user}}
and{{sockpuppeteer}}
in all honesty only serve to provide convenience links to ban discussions, contribution lists, block logs, and evidence of sockpuppetry. All of those links are available in the history of Peter's userpage. - To address your second question, "Why is all this courtesy applied to a user who doesn't seem to care about it anyway?", Peter Damian does seem to find the tags vexing. Accordingly, ArbCom agreed to remove them and courtesy blank his userpage. I rather doubt that he has changed his mind about the tags, so I reverted your unblanking. Finally, regardless of whether or not he is "deserving" of courtesy, should we not do the right thing and extend common courtesy towards him as a fellow human being? All too often, it seems, people forget that there is another face, another human, another set of feelings that can be hurt behind the screen name of the account. As such, should we not remove the tags that he finds so vexing? Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:55, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Um, no. If he doesn't want his Wikipedia user name (not a name or a face, but a user name) connected to any problematic editing and/or sanctions, he could have just stayed away from here after all the pages were blanked or deleted, as was agreed. Now, he has returned, he has continued socking. Apparently he doesn't find the issue of being tagged a sockpuppet sufficiently vexing after all? Why, after all this, should we still give a flying shit about what he finds vexing about our methods to easily follow up his socking (things like his usual IP ranges and so on)? Or conversely, why don't you try to get rid of all sockpuppet tags, for every editor? After all, they probably all are human beings as well. You really haven't given any reason why PD should get preferential treatment. Fram (talk) 14:13, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
SPI query
Hi Reaper. A quick question, since I can't see the answer anywhere obvious: is it acceptable for me to perform clerk actions on an SPI in which I've already acted as an administrator? For example, after a bit of consideration I ended up blocking all of the accounts listed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kashmiri123, since they were all pretty clearly the same user. Would it have been appropriate for me to then close the case and mark it for archiving? I'm assuming not, using the same logic that says one shouldn't archive cases that one has already closed, but I thought I'd double-check with you. Cheers, Yunshui 雲水 11:02, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- That's correct. You (or any patrolling admin) can close cases you have actioned. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:34, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, you've bewildered me - I'm correct in that I can't archive cases I've actioned, or I can close such cases? Apologies for my obtuseness. Yunshui 雲水 14:01, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Sockpuppet templates
Hi Reaper, I noticed your new design with the standard exclamation mark icon. While I don't mind the overall removal of "teh ebil sock" image, I think we should have a quick visual identification for the three stages "suspect", "blocked", and "confirmed". So I suggest we add a switch like |image=[[File:{{#switch:{{{2}}}|case=blocked|result=Stop x nuvola|case=confirmed|result=Sock block|Information icon4}}.svg|45px]]
. How's that? De728631 (talk) 14:45, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- I concur with User:De728631. But I would prefer this code:
|image = [[File:{{#ifeq:{{{2}}}|confirmed|Puppeter template|System-users}}.svg|45px]]
If parameter 2 is "confirmed", then File:Puppeter template.svg is used. Else, File:System-users.svg is used.
Also left a message at Template talk:Sockpuppet#Image used in template. Cheers, theFace 19:05, 25 March 2013 (UTC)- Also: I see you've toned down the language of Template:Banned user. I don't disagree with that aspect, but don't you think you've made the image a bit too small? Same goes for Template:Blocked user. I think 25px is too little. 37px would be better. Cheers, theFace 19:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you explain this please?
Why do you insist on this tag (on many other users' pages too) when WP:SPI/AI states that where there is no confirmation by CheckUser (as in this case) the "{{sock|SockMaster|blocked}}" tag should be used. Have I misread the instruction, or have you misapplied it? That is a genuine question from a genuinely concerned editor. I am also trying to discuss this at User talk:Bbb23. - I'd be careful about mislabeling them as vandalism, though. The nominations were probably not vandalism and should not be labeled as so. There is a very specific definition for nonconstructive editing, which does not appear to be the case. Very questionable. TBrandley 04:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
- Until we can hopefully have an RfC later this month, there's nothing I can really do to say you can't delete them, but I'll point out that a) the discussion is not leaning that way and b)the articles you deleted had already been fixed so Snotbot would not add them to articles (removing the template that says remove this template when the discussion is closed does the trick). From previous discussion
Hi, User Reaper Eternal
Seasons Greeting
At edit filter talk on my request you suggested me a code. The code is correct but,it did not work on our wiki, when googled and refered more info, probably \b does not work ,as a word boundry, with unicode charecters as easy as expected.added_lines rlike "\bतू\b" or contains_any(added_lines,"\bतू\b") gives no result; and that it blocks entire related charecterset.
Last one and half month I did ample self study and experimentation but that did not work.I do not know how rest of unicode wikis are doing it.I did not find any discussion on this topic here.So just, please, let me know if you get any more info , or do guide if it is more worth to enquire at bugzilla with a bug.
Thanks and warm regards

Question of SP tags (again)
I've changed a couple of SP tags you've added from "confirmed" to "suspected" where there is no CU support for "confirmed", as per WP:SPI/AI (these ones: [1], [2] and [3]). If you think it necessary to change them back, or add others similarly, please explain your rationale for apparently contravening the clear advice given in that procedure. Puzzled and curious (talk) 08:11, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- Read what the notice says: "This account is a sock puppet of DeFacto and has been blocked indefinitely. Please refer to contributions for evidence."
- Furthermore, being the new user who knows about WP:SPI/AI you clearly are, you might be surprised to learn that operating an account in this manner is in violation of WP:SCRUTINY, for which I see you have already been blocked. Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:26, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi RE, perhaps you may still remember that you semi'd my talk page due to persistent socking. That time, it was a bunch of IPs, whose master was some IP hopping Poland guy. Just to let you know, I can say that I am 95% sure that the above user is the same person. Because his edit summaries sometimes contain xD, and the YouTube link he posted on my page contained a picture of a penguin with an xD scrawled on it. When he was harassing me repeatedly the other time, he sometimes called me "penguin". For more info on this user, please refer to User talk:78.8.103.182 and the socks as listed on this IP talk page. Also, is there any possiblity that he could be a sock of LTA abuser in this report? The LTA guy is also from Poland. I hope you can give me some useful advice/info if you can. Cheers. Its edits: [4] A little later I find this on my Talkpage [5], user Zyker wants to know more about the IP troll. I don't know the guy so I check his Talk page and find warnings [6] because he has been vandalizing the same article [7].
Should this be investigated? Yintan² 18:35, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

On blocks and rights
Hey Reaper. I definitely don't want to be that guy who's advocating for the blocked sockmaster simply because they had some positive interactions. However, looking over BarkingFish's block log, I see that this isn't the first time that he's wanted to be blocked, and there's no way for anyone to verify the long-term abuse he claims to have engaged in; IMHO, this is wikicide by admin at its finest. Anyways, point is, I saw you revoked all his rights... pulling IPBE clearly makes sense, but if he ever does choose to come back (and apologize for whatever damage he's done to the project over the years), it might nice for him to have reviewer and rollbacker to come back to. Your call, obviously, but I thought I'd put that out there. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 14:27, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- I feel that socking and/or egregrious vandalism is a gross breach of community trust, which is required for any user rights. I think he'd have to re-earn those lost rights; he doesn't have the trust to continue carrying them.--Jasper Deng (talk) 16:04, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

- Hi! The subject of the article believed that a certain piece of information in that edit could endanger his life. Accordingly, I hid those revisions as a temporary measure for the WMF to evaluate any potential risk. If his fears are found to be exaggerated, then the revisions will likely be restored. However, with the potential consequences given the region, I'd rather play it safe. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:34, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
- How was this request sent to you?
- That is a plain attempt at manipulation. The primary editor (Possibly the same person as the subject, or directly connected) came to Help IRC trying to get this article through that was at AFC. Constant buggering on his part ensued for hours, after which I removed all puff and added the article. Per discussion, it came through that the article subject also had reliable sources(NYT, Chicago Tribune) speaking of him acting as an arms dealer; which I added. The authro came back and argued for 2 hours straight to either remove that line, or to delete the article. We could not do either, and so he resorted to PA. That ultimately led to him being banned from the help IRC [ban subsequently revoked].
- The author is an undisclosed COI bent only to try and show the "good" facts about the article topic, and we have reliable sources demonstrating that the article subject was indeed an arms dealer, and very happy to flaunt it too. The endanger his life part was certainly humbug trying to get that reference out of the article by hook or by crook.
- TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:01, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with TheOriginalSoni. The draft's author was all too happy with using Mr Gul's job to paint him as a successful businessman. When we added context based on the same sources, he complained about us being unfair. For the record, the upcoming National Assembly election is on May 11, I believe, and the article's original author was very eager to have a puff piece online before then. Huon (talk) 19:28, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
- I would not be surprised at all if he was gaming me. I'd be greatly disappointed, but unsurprised. I'm still waiting to hear back from the WMF.... Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:23, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- One clarification though, its the author whose life is potentially at stake, and not the article subject. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 19:42, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Unblock IP Address request
Hello, I am trying to edit articles from work, but my IP address 74.125.0.0/16 (talk) seems to have been blocked by you via {{webhostblock}} template. I have a valid Wikipedia account, but this does not seem to matter because of my IP address is blocked... what can I do in this situation? Is there some way to get a user-based override of a broad IP address block? I have added an unblock template on my user_talk page as instructed by the {{webhostblock}} template.
Thanks, JonathanCross (talk) 12:02, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Protected page Die Young (song)
Back in September 2012 you indefinitely protected the page Die Young (song), apparently because some editor was repeatedly trying to crystal-ball the Kesha song. The circumstances that prompted the protection are no longer ongoing, and Die Young (song) should be created as a redirect to the disambiguation page Die Young, since there are now two songs with that title with articles. Would you be willing to lift the protection so the redirect can be created? Thanks, --ShelfSkewed Talk 13:26, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

SPI case
Hello, you recently marked an SPI case (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/87.93.62.153) as closed without commenting on all of its aspects or points raised within evidence. Could you explain that please? Mohamed CJ (talk) 18:07, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you are asking here. I did take action on the report by semiprotecting the article, as I mentioned in my closing comments. The IP ranges are far, far too dynamic to block, and the user you mentioned as possibly related is just that: possibly related. There isn't enough evidence to block him. Thanks. Reaper Eternal (talk) 18:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Nutash Ali socks
I've been fighting the socks of User:Nutash Ali. I normally just clean up run-of-the-mill vandalism and this is my first foray into sock-puppetry. I've noticed you've asked for checkuser on this case. I'm still finding more of these socks. Should I continue to report them, or should I back off until a checkuser does their thing? Sperril (talk) 12:31, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ugh, definitely continue to report them. But please just add them to the list of accounts in the open report rather than filing an entirely new report for every single account. Then leave a note in the comments section that you added more accounts so we don't miss them. Thanks! Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:34, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help! I think I've fixed all of the damage and caught all of the obvious socks. Interestingly, while searching all articles for "Nutash Ali" I found this edit [10]. This editor doesn't seem to be involved in any vandalism. I think that this may have been a legitimate edit, but I can't find anything useful in English about the company other than wikipedia mirrors. I removed the line but noted that it can be reinserted with a reference. Sperril (talk) 13:37, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

- The edit you made years ago didn't violate any Wikipedia rules—it was just grammatically incorrect. AldezD then fixed the grammatical errors in the article. I wouldn't worry about AldezD and his SPI, since there was no merit to it and a checkuser deleted it. Good luck, and enjoy editing! Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:50, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Msoamu SPI
I'm intrigued: why is it only a two-week block for sockpuppetry, when the offences have been going on for 6+ years? I'm not particularly asking for a longer block - although I definitely think one is justified - but I'd like to know why the sanction is so limited (yes, I know it's only a 2-week block for most first-time offences, but this is a VERY long term issue) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 08:39, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- This is the first time he's been blocked for socking, and we generally give second chances. Reaper Eternal (talk) 12:25, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
When you have a moment, could you review my block of this user? It started here. As far as I can recall, I don't know Newnou, so I'm not sure why they came to me, but the two edits by the new account looked ugly on their face, so I blocked. Then I started delving a little deeper (probably should've done that first), and the tags added by Antisocky pointed me to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Iaaasi/Archive, on which I noticed User:Stubes99. Then, I looked at the history of Newnou, which, to say the least, was unusual. Finally, I came to you because you were last admin to act on the Iaaasi SPI. I hope that's enough connected dots for you. Thanks for any help.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:48, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- I've tagged Antisocky as a sock of User:Stubes99 and blocked Newnou as a sock of Stubes99's arch-nemesis User:Iaaasi. Cheers! Reaper Eternal (talk) 00:05, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

- I'm fine with explaining all the behavioral quirks per WP:ADMINACCT, but I'd rather not since it takes a long time to lay out all the evidence in a side-by-side format and because sockpuppeteers commonly watch for ways to evade detection. After a while of dealing with these two, it becomes obvious when they've made their next socks and are back to rapidly edit warring with and tagging each other. Cheers!
