Thank you for your beautiful words and warm wishes on my birthday, dear friend! I took a well-deserved one-day wikibreak and spent it with my family and my friends... and had an actual beer after months of forced abstinence! :) Of course, there's no way I'd forget about you, so I saved a good, tasty and hypercaloric piece of chocolate cake just for you - but sorry, no beer left! Again, thank you so much for taking the time to wish me well, my friend! Love, Phaedriel - 00:53, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, my Dzasta, I totally and blatantly inspired this little thing on your own; sometimes, it's best to follow others' footsteps when they come accross a great idea... and like a friend said, that's the beauty of GDFL, which makes this plagiarism instead of copyvio! ;) Seriously, thanks so much for taking the time to visit me, and for your kind words; and for the gift it is to see you back with us, where you belong. Welcome home, my sweet friend! :) xoxox, Shazza

Thanks on catching the issue with User:Peepsta21 and moving her page to the correct place. I had realized a few moments after I tagged it that she had a redirect on her user page. Trusilver 18:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

Hi, Riana, and thanks for your participation in my RfA. I've withdrawn it, and will be writing up an "analysis" of it, which will soon be available at User:Giggy/RfA/Giggy when it's done. Please come around when you get the chance, and give me feedback on how I can improve. Thanks again, Giggy UCP 04:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for misinterpreting it...gah, I certainly wasn't in the best frame of mind today (I guess a stressful RfA does that). I can only hope that the community does indeed let people move on from mistake...I guess I'll find that out when I run again. Until then, Giggy UCP 04:53, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perfectly understandable - I don't hold anything against you! Take care ~ Riana 07:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help?

[edit]

Hi Riana. Good to have you back. I've a need for advice/comment from an experienced editor. :) Earlier in the day, User:Mathewgarth was adding one particular link to a wide range of articles relating to Gospel music, Southern music, Country music, etc. as can be seen from his contribs. Some of the edits were reverted by other users, while I reverted other edits (as the respective pages were on my watchlist). A little while ago, an unknown IP (70.115.253.243, to be specific) started adding the same link/content to some of the same articles as can be seen from his contribs. That's when I did a check of the IP's contribs and Mathewgarth's contribs and reverted almost all of the edits as I felt that they were linkspamming/advertising for a particular organisation. In this case, what could I do to stop this spamming? Honestly, I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings. Any ideas/comments/suggestions are totally welcome. aJCfreak yAk 14:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spammers can (and should) be blocked - it can be reported to AIV. If the user continues with sockpuppets the target articles can be protected. ~ Riana 15:45, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Looks like he's stopped now. Will report user if the incident continues. Cheerio! aJCfreak yAk 16:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark and all the dinosaurs are running wild

[edit]

Hi there, great sea troll. I'm addressing you for the simple reason that you're an admin and around at this moment, according to recent changes. Would you mind closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Biological issues in Jurassic Park as nomination withdrawn? As you can see from the page, the feeling is that the subject is a valid one and the original nominator has agreed to suspend the AfD to make way for an effort to rewrite the article so that it accedes to policy. --Kizor 09:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, sea troll.  Done ~ Riana 09:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted userpage contents

[edit]

Hello again. I've a question: Would it be against policy to restore content from a deleted userpage? Before you hit me with that lightening bolt, lemme explain - I'm talking about a user who decided to quit Wikipedia and therefore blanked his userpage and got it deleted. In case it is not against policy, would it be possible for an admin to retrieve that content? The user in concern is was User:Vagish who currently has a temp account at User:AVTN. Please take your time in replying. :) aJCfreak yAk 12:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I'd drop by and say thank you for reverting the vandalism done to my talk page recently so quickly. The vandals in question happen to be in my current computer class, so when I heard that they were laughing raucously, I went and reverted their vandalism and warned them. However, I heard them decide to vandalize my page, I went to revert the edits and they'd already been reverted by you. Thanks again! Cheers, Corvus coronoides talk 17:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Transnistria

[edit]

Would you care to motivate the proctection of Transnistria? The only "revert war" going on is that of the user making the complaint and call for protection of his version favouring one version while all others users favour another, one agreeing with international law. I find the action taken hard to motivate and look forward to your comments on the talk page. JdeJ 22:16, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would personally prefer the page remained protected but I'll have a look at the talk. ~ Riana 06:33, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. On second thought, it might be better that the page remain protected at the moment. :) Still, do drop by the talk page whenever you have the time if you feel like it. I must say that I remain very unconvinced by the user Míkka's (lack of) arguments. JdeJ 07:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dynamic textures

[edit]

You just deleted Dynamic textures. If this was a WP:BLP or WP:COPYVIO that must be deleted, you would have said so, but other than that you don't leave a reason. Assuming the topic was really unencyclopedic, then why did you leave three links to the article? Since you left these three invitations to recreate the article, why didn't you leave a stub?

I don't particularly care about this article. I am disambiguating texture, and this link changed since last night. I may have read it last night, but I don't recall. I guess it had to do with texture mapping. — Randall Bart (talk) 19:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was deleting articles which were nominated for deletion via the proposed deletion process. Kindly investigate your facts fully the next time, my deletion summary quite clearly states that it is an expired prod, and what the nominator's concern was. ~ Riana 00:33, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I investigated as fully as I could, but there were few facts. If I want to know what happened to The Project, the log directs me to the discussion. I disagree with the result, but I can tell what happened. When I look at Dynamic textures, I only see that you deleted it because you think there was a prod. Was there a prod? I have no way to know. Perhaps you clicked the wrong article. How am I to know? You don't even tell me who left the prod, for me to go ask them.
Furthermore, assuming deletion was proper, why did you leave three red links inviting people to recreate the article? — Randall Bart (talk) 21:09, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not leave links on purpose. The links are left as an invitation to recreate the article in a proper and encyclopedic form. The point of proposed deletion is that if it is uncontested, it is deleted. The admin is merely the person who deletes the article. The text of the article was wholly unencylopedic - basically an advertisement disguised as an article - which is why I fully agreed with the deletion. The proposed deletion process is different from the WP:AFD process, which is what you refer to wrt The Project. I did not click the wrong article because I use a script to delete prods, which only shows up if there is a prod notice on the article. I am not permitted to tell you who proposed the article for deletion, because it is in the deleted edits. Regards, ~ Riana 04:59, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's precisely the problem. You leave us no info at all. — Randall Bart (talk) 01:00, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry you feel that way. I'm merely doing what a hundred other admins do on a daily basis. ~ Riana 01:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Transnistria (again)

[edit]

I'd like to ask you to unprotect Transnistria. I'm sure you acted in good faith, but the user Míkka only used the protection to enfore his own view. Before the protection, he was the only user reverting to the current protected version and would have violated 3RR. If the protection would be used to discuss the matter on the talkpage, then fine, but all he does is to write that those who disagree with him are so stupid that he's not talking to them. While many arguments have been presented for the view that Transnistria isn't a state, not a single one has been presented in support of the currect, protected version. Protecting a page should be a way to calm down edit wars and to discuss matters, not a way for a single user to avoid violating 3RR while still keeping his version on-line and then refusing to discuss. JdeJ 10:58, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For faster performance, and a cost-effective solution, go to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. --Dark Falls talk 11:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unprotected ~ Riana 14:13, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is a fact? If UN does not recognize Transnistria as a state isn't it POV to say it's a state? --ŞtefanIaşi 18:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think this version is good?

A sourced version might be:

Version 1.

Transnistria, is the easternmost part of Moldova[1] [2] [3]. Transnistria's sepparatist regime is not recognised by any state or international organisation, and it is de jure part of Moldova.

I removed any references to forced terms like "republic", "state" since it's not recognized by UN. --ŞtefanIaşi 18:48, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm not really involved in the dispute, so you would have to ask on the talkpage. So sorry that I can't help further. ~ Riana 04:56, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rick Boyce

[edit]

Riana,

I'm writing to you for help.

An article I wrote - Rick Boyce - was deleted (prod). I don't check my articles very often so the five day period expired before I had a chance to comment.

The administrator who nominated it for deletion is on what he calls a "long vacation" and I would like not to wait for him to return to address him directly.

Here are his comments:

"14:11, 20 July 2007 Maxim (Talk | contribs) deleted "Rick Boyce" (Expired prod, concern was: Almost no Google hits for the subject. Probably not notable enough.)"

First, I would like my article back. I don't have a saved copy and it took a fair amount of time to research and write it.

Second, the reasons for deletion don't seem sound to me. "Almost no Google hits" "Probably not notable enough."

References to Rick Boyce appear throughout the web as a Google search shows. He is also cited by several wikipedia articles.

Further, his work is also described in a book, which my article cited, a history of web commercialization published by John Wiley & Sons. Wiley is a 100 year old book publisher that has been one of the primary publishers of books about the Internet and web commerce.

Rick Boyce was one of the essential pioneers who helped make the web what is it today. He is responsible for making the banner ad a viable advertising vehicle. This is not debatable, no one disputes it, and the fact is cited in numerous places.

The reasons this article was proposed for deletion strike me as silly. I am, among other things, a historian of the early days of web commercialization. I am a contributor of the World Wide Web History Center which is supported by Stanford University and the Computer History Museum.

Rick Boyce is an important person in the history of the web and *almost* no Google hits is not a relevant criteria for deletion. Neither is Maxim's assessment that he is *probably* not notable enough.

Thanks for your help.

Remaining high-res revisions of non-free images

[edit]

While going through my watchlist, I noticed that Image:Ilya.JPG and Image:Rogershuxley.jpg still had what looks like high-resolution versions in the file history. Probably some glitch during deletion. Since they were already listed and handled once, I suppose you can just delete the revisions directly, without me adding them to the somewhat large backlog at Category:Rescaled fairuse images (or, rather, Category:Rescaled fairuse images more than 7 days old) :-) --Pekaje 16:28, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking this IP. The article's original creator User:James Scott Francis (who I'm sure is the same person as the IP) is carrying on the same edit war and re-introducing the same copyvios [7]. I'm looking in quickly from work and don't have time to file a formal checkuser request, but is it actually necessary in this case, especially since he signs his posts in the same way? Best regards Iain99 11:59, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. He seems to have taken to page blanking and got himself blocked for that, so I guess it's academic now anyway. Thanks again. Iain99 16:19, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you put a note, which included a suggested resolution of 500px. I think that may be unfortunate, because all attempts I have so far seen to define what is acceptable, are insufficient to cover all cases. The most sensible rules-of-thumb I have so far seen (on {{Non-free_use_rationale}}) is that raster images should be approximately 0.1 megapixels (give or take) and/or (as the proportions of the image may warrant) approximately 300px on the longest side. There is also the matter of generally not using a (much) larger image than is necessary for use in the article (like for many fixed size infoboxes). Maybe a note on using best judgment/good sense would also help. Would you mind if I added these kinds of clarifications? --Pekaje 12:13, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course not! 400-500px is the general rule-of-thumb that I use, but feel free to add more instructions (I have a sneaky suspicion that I'm one of very few admins who actually patrols that category anyway :) ) By the way, thanks for making the dated category, it makes my job a lot easier :) ~ Riana 12:15, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. I had noticed that you were more or less the only admin to delete any of the images I had rescaled, and seeing how the category was structured before, it is no wonder. I eventually got tired of having images on my watchlist for a month or more, so did what I could to help clear the backlog :-) --Pekaje 12:36, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I very much appreciate your help, and he is rightly suspected of being a sock-puppet for JJonz, including that he uses JJonz 'Gaashooru' when addressing Gschoyru, but he didn't vandalise Powers and abilities of Superman or Sentry (Robert Reynolds). He's currently either blatantly trying to bait both you User:Gschoyru and User: J Greb with harmless and completely pointless, non-vandalism, edits, while feigning 'harmless pacifist' comments, or is simply some unrelated guy doing semi-stupid but harmless edits. Please keep track of whether he does reverts or just adds an 'and' or similar here and there, or he'll lure you into a pitfall/ban. Ridding you of much credibility with the admins with JJonz getting an open market to do whatever he wants/act silly petty tyrant again. Dave 17:19, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Assistance

[edit]

I am not aware of the situation going on between these two users, but User:Calton posted on his talk page emails from User:StraferOfTruths complete with email address. Within moments he removed this post from his talk page saying "On second thought, I'll save this for later". Regardless of the situation between these two, an editor like Calton should know better than to post someone's email address on his own talk page.

If I am not mistaken, this is violation of WP:HAR, per "Posting of personal information", ie: "email address". I am not sure how you procede with something like this, but a very good friend of mine, User:TREYWiki, was blocked when he posted personal information of someone. Thought you should know...NeutralHomer T:C 05:35, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Even if it is a throwaway, I didn't want it up there, especially if it was someone's real, true email address. But, Calton should know better either way, but he will never get in trouble and I think that is what frustrates me more. Anywho (before I start ranting), thanks. - NeutralHomer T:C 06:03, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm disappointed, Riana :) seriously, this guy would make a great Administrator, and I understand you're coaching him/co-noming him, and I was wondering, either (a) when is the big event; and (b) could I get in on the act? :) let me know, Anthøny 18:50, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Riana...I'm actually Trusilver's admin coach, and I've been talking to him, and have seen that an interest has arisen in his Rfa taking place now. I believe a nom from you would carry more weight than one from me, but I would like to give a co-nom as well. Please let me know :). Jmlk17 20:28, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fight to the death for the honour of co-noming? I'm going for Riana...(Obviously since I'm her sock) --DarkFalls talk 02:22, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
J, since you've spent time coaching Trusilver, I believe it's only fair that you nominate him, but I would really love to get a co-nom in! Of course, it's up to Trusilver whether he wants Anthony or myself to co-nominate, I wouldn't like to ruin his chances with some silly 'too many nominations' oppose. ~ Riana 03:01, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've been in touch with Trusilver over email, and he's given me the go-ahead to co-nominate him, when the time comes. Just a thought here, but perhaps we should start a sandbox version? Unless J objects, I'll head over and start one up in his userspace; but, I'd best leave starting the real thing for Jmlk :) regards, Anthøny 09:34, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well I think J will object since the "userspace" links to a non-existent user :) --DarkFalls talk 09:47, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it helps, I have come across this user and would be delighted also to co-nom. But am equally happy just to support. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:38, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joke edits

[edit]

Please stop making joke edits to my navigation bar! Although they are appreciated, are meant in good humour, and there's nothing wrong with them, they are considered too good for the general public.... and (grins :)--DarkFalls talk 03:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Riana/Helpful

[edit]

Hmm... I've never known about User:Riana/Helpful, so I wonder how many do. Anway, can I add myself to the list. I think I'm helpful enough to be Riana list level. :) --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 04:06, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm offended... not even adding your own sock... --DarkFalls talk 04:08, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assume Good Faith

[edit]

I am concern about your previous blocks The one on April 19. Don't forget Riana. Always Assume good faith and please watch your language. Anyone would say the same. Thanks. King Lopez Contribs 09:10, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, sorry but I think you've got it wrong here. I've never known Riana to not AGF; and her recent blocks summaries (bad girl, bad! - :) are just a bit of humour ... certainly not bad language. The only instance of expletives was the block by now-desysopped-and-indefinitely-banned (ex-)Administrator, sockpuppet and compromised (?) account Robdurbar ... and I think she can be forgiven then, don't you? ~ Anthøny 09:42, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok If you say so. She certainly is forgiven :) King Lopez Contribs 09:56, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lol! I wondered when those would come back to bite me... Thank you, KL, you are very alert ;) Cheers, ~ Riana 10:10, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A storm a'brewin'

[edit]

Riana - Just thought I'd fill you in on some background. Eyrian has a fairly strong view on "x in Pop culture" articles which he's written here and scan down here for some responses. There has also been a fairly systematic nomination of a great many articles that have fallen into this category, with some heated discussion. I got involved over Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Lions_in_popular_culture, now it is Cultural_depictions_of_lions - see the talk pages and history for some background.

Then there is/was Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Popular_dinosaurs which resulted in this article being kept. I was unhappy that the most notable dino (T rex) was deleted (the T rex in pop cult article was yet another on a long and growing list of to-do things), so I requested a review here, though this looks becoming more heated as we go along....

I'll be interested to see what you as an impartial observer make of all this (if you're interested). Ultimately I concede alot of the "x in Pop culture" articles were on the silly side maybe but surely Lions and T rex are pretty iconic and that cleanup tags rather than AfD is a way of dealing with article quality (?), or maybe I'm just a hopeless trivia buff.cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:27, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I can take honest criticism...truly....I don't hold grudges.... ;) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 09:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, (as for myself I find 'x in pop culture' articles generally quite useless, but I am prepared to concede that there are notable exceptions), but you do know it's bad to revert war, dontcha? :) ~ Riana 13:52, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, don't think I've ever spoken with you before, but...

The Excellent Userpage Award
I hereby award Riana the excellent userpage award, for having an very nice userpage, and for having mastered the art of the wikilink to such a level that the content of the userpage made a random passer-by such as myself crack up.
