AFC, alleged deletion

[edit]

Hello WaddlesJP13,

Thank you for your feedback on the Zae - SUBOMOTO wiki entry. I understand the concerns regarding the notability of the subject, and I would like to address them. The references I provided include several reputable sources, such as Billboard Philippines, ABS-CBN News, Nylon Manila, and The Smart Local Philippines, all of which offer significant coverage of Zae's career and her rise within the Filipino rap scene. Additionally, the song SUBOMOTO and its remix with Hev Abi have gained notable attention from music outlets, further supporting the case for its inclusion.

While I understand that the guidelines require a more in-depth look at secondary sources, I believe that the current references do provide a solid foundation for Zae’s notability. In light of this, I would appreciate any specific suggestions on how I can strengthen the article’s references or if there are other sources that could help improve the submission.

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

Best regards, trvbt

Unregistered editors in projectspace

[edit]

You asked at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Ohio Public Television:

@SmokeyJoe: I only ask because I don't know and I am curious—are unregistered users not supposed to contribute in projectspace? Waddles 🗩 🖉 00:15, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you have an account, it is a Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry violation to edit projectspace while logged out. If you don’t have an account, there can be reasons to edit projectspace. However, if you are going to make habit of it, you should register an account to enable accountability and assist other editors in interacting with you. Good reasons for an IP to edit projectspace would involve something to do with their mainspace editing. This is not the case with participating in an MfD discussion of no apparent connection to the IP. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:18, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SmokeyJoe: Thank you for the explanation, that makes sense. I didn't know if there was some sort of policy for that or if it was just something done out of courtesy. Though I'm not not entirely against it, I've never understood why a non-sock unregistered user has felt the need to comment on something as irrelevant to them as and MfD entry or an ANI thread not involving them. Waddles 🗩 🖉 05:25, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There’s the undeniable suspicion that an IP at MfD has an undeclared history with the author of the page listed at MfD. SmokeyJoe (talk) 10:44, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SmokeyJoe: I was unaware of this connection. Thank you for letting me know. Waddles 🗩 🖉 16:06, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Took your suggestions to heart, and added some extra info that hopefully better establishes this company's notability. I also added more info to the references using the cite-web template. It seems inappropriate for me to be the sole judge of whether these issues have now been adequately addressed, so please feel free to take a look and make the call as to whether the maintenance templates can be removed.

Re: Rush Brush

[edit]

Hello!

You recently declined my article on the Rush Brush for the following reasons and I'd like some clarification and/or assistance in bringing things up to code.

Here's what you wrote: "Please include citations from independent, reliable sources. YouTube and other social media is not a reliable source due to it being user-generated content. Interviews are generally reliable, but are not independent of the subject." It is my understanding that YouTube video ARE allowed as sources under certain circumstances. As the two videos I sourced are a television news interview with the two creators of the Rush Brush conducted by a reliable and credible news organization that has been broadcasting since 1950 (KELOLAND News) as well as a commercial for the product itself, both of these would be acceptable as sources of reliable and independent sources of information on the Rush Brush. YouTube videos are not automatically unreliable as a source of information are they? These videos were not "created" by the uploader -- just uploaded to the site, so there is not any "user generation" in this case.

"Patents can be used to verify information, but do not verify notability." I am curious what this note means. The link to the patent provides insight into the products unique features and was used as a source because of the additional information it included on the creation, ownership, and timeline of the product. I am not saying the patent "verifies" its "notability". But the fact that a legal patent exists does speak to the product's uniqueness and provides insight into its creation, ownership, and function.

The Rush Brush sold hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of units and was available at Disneyland, Disney World, and a half a dozen other major retail locations. Between the news interview, the product's commercial, and the legal patent I feel like this is enough evidence to verify the Rush Brush's notability for it's own article. I would appreciate any other insight you could provide to help me get this page officially listed and created.

Hello Im Zach (talk) 01:15, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hello Im Zach: YouTube can be used as a source in some cases, such as, like you mentioned, when it is published by a reliable media outlet. One issue with the KELOLAND Rush Brush Interview is that it was uploaded by a user rather than the source itself or another reliable source—we require per WP:RSPYT that the content be uploaded from the original source. Having this requirement in place can prevent a situation where the content has be edited by the uploader and is then used as a source on Wikipedia. While it is more than likely that the video is unedited, we need 100% verification. The other issue regarding this video as a source is that interviews are primary sources, as the information comes from the source itself (in this case, the creators of the product) rather than being reported on by a secondary source (a journalist, a reliable product reviewer, etc.), therefore it is not independent of the subject. This similar logic will apply to the commercial for the product also. A commercial for a product is directly associated with the product and therefore not independent. Additionally, this video was also uploaded by a user.
As for the legal patent, it is reliable as it is published by a federal agency but does not verify notability as there are millions of legal patents for inventions in the United States. While a patent can imply that a product is unique enough that its creator applied to have it trademarked, uniqueness isn't as important as notability on Wikipedia, and notability is the biggest concern when it comes to a subject in an article. If there were any news articles or product reviews for reliable sources that are not associated with the product or its inventors, these could be used as sources which may verify the notability of the topic.
Having an interview on the news, a TV commercial and a legal patent is an impressive feat in the grand scheme of things, but we have to look at these as not one but separately to see what verification of notability they provide—school children often are interviewed on the local news, commercials for local car dealerships appear many times throughout TV channels, and many of the various household objects that you use throughout your daily life are trademarked—local people and businesses and household products can be notable on a case-by-case basis, but to verify notability on Wikipedia, we need significant coverage from multiple reliable secondary sources.
