Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Artaxiad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

{{Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Artaxiad}}
to the checkuser page here. Previous requests (shown below), and this box, will be automatically hidden on Requests for checkuser (but will still appear here).
The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a Request for checkuser. Please do not modify it.
  • Code letter: B

Please, check the edits by User:Yerkatagear:

  • [1] - Three days after registration, asking User:VartanM for more information about Wikipedia on January 10th, and [2] - just three days later, on January 13th, posting a message, alike a very experienced contributor, at Jayvdb's page accusing him of vandalism. This one is especially suspicious, as just few days earlier User:Jayvdb posted a substantial Checkuser evidence [3] on vandalism of user Andranikpasha in various Wikimedia projects.
  • [4] - editing primarily Tzitzernavank Monastery, a page created by User:Vishap checkuser-confirmed [5] sockpuppet of User:Artaxiad. User:Andranikpasha seemed to be also extremely interested in this minor topic [6].

User:Steelmate another account created recently (November 6, 2007), which seems to be making expert conclusions about the behavior of a user blocked back in April 2007. Also, this edit by User:Yerkatagear on his userpage is interesting [7].

Thanks. Atabek (talk) 06:01, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I find this edit [8] to be quite similar to this: [9] So I added another 2 blocked sock accounts to cu. Grandmaster (talk) 09:32, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Clerk note: moved resulting comments on the merits of the case to the talk page. -- lucasbfr talk 13:13, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think User:Pocopocopocopoco should also be checked against User:Steelmate. Both these accounts focus on the secessionist conflicts in the post-Soviet countries. Their editing style is similar, characterized by frequent edit warring and strong pro-secessionist POV. As it can be seen on this talk page, Pocopocopocopoco does his best to prevent Steelmate from being checked.

  • User:Pocopocopocopoco was the only user who tried to save an unreferenced POV entry Georgian Chauvinism created by a single purpose account User:Toobigtohide (this user has never again appeared since then). Pocopocopocopoco proposed to rename the entry to Allegations of Georgian Chauvinism or Georgianisation, but the article was nevertheless deleted through AfD.[10] Shortly after Steelmate became active on Wikipedia, he also started to develop, within his userspace, the articles once suggested by Pocopocopocopoco (see the sandbox links on Steelmate’s userpage – Georgian nationalism and Georgianization).
  • Upon his appearance, Steelmate got embroiled in a series of edit wars, and Pocopocopocopoco quickly came to his aid.[11]User:Steelmate fought hard [12] over a relatively obscure Georgia-related topic about which he eventually admitted to have no information and withdrew.[13] A minor (and dubious) grammar mistake made by me on the very same page, albeit barely noticeable to an outsider, would be exploited several weeks later by Pocopocopocopoco as “evidence” to my alleged sockpuppetry.[14] Thanks, --KoberTalk 07:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I completely support user:Kober request if it will put his paranoia at ease and allow him to edit more collaboratively. Throughout the time that I have been on Wikipedia, Kober has accused me of being at least 9 distinctly separate people. These are user:Buffadren, user:William Mauco,[15] User:Toobigtohide, user:CDRW80, user:ClockworkOrange, user:Monegasque, user:Mare Nostrum, User:Daniil_naumoff and user:Steelmate.[16] Looking at Kober's motley list of Romanians, Transnistrians, Armenians, and Russians, I can't fathom how Kober, in his mind, can connect me with all these people. In this particular checkuser case, Kober believes that I am Steelmate because we both disagreed with Kober on a couple of articles and that I believe this checkuser against Steelmate was frivolous. Previously, Kober believed that I was user:William Mauco because I edit biochemistry articles and Mauco edits Brazilian choreography articles.[17] Can anyone understand that logic? Note that what I consider Kober's excessive paranoia is also evident by his numerous allegations that another prolific Russian contributor (user:Alaexis) had been stalking him.[18][19] He has also accused me of having a personal grudge against him.[20] I say this to Kober in all good faith (in that I believe these accusations are actual paranoia and not wikilawyering) please seek assistance for your paranoia. Perhaps some sort of wiki mentoring might be helpful to Kober? Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 18:58, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You have accused me of sockpuppetry on a weekly basis, and now you dare to speak about my paranoia? It's you who needs a counseling, not me. Anyway, I'm not going to waste my time in talking with you. As for user:Alaexis, he has never actually denied that he follows each of my steps. Either way, this is not relevant to the current CU which is a formal procedure. Don't panic and be patient. It may kill your account, but not your real life. Bye, --KoberTalk 19:20, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like user:Kober is following each of my steps, but that is ok as I don't actually care. And also I see no harm in checkuser against me and anybody else. But would also like to request cu on user:Kober having a sockpuppet user:Gegelia as he was quick to help out this user to push Georgian POV on almost all his edits. Steelmate (talk) 20:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, someone referring to themselves as Gegi vandalized my userspace[21] about the same time that I had been in a content dispute with Kober. If you need help submitting a checkuser between Kober and Gegelia please let me know. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 20:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that Kober has graciously offered Steelmate the assistance in filing a checkuser on him. Since Kober believes that Steelmate and I are the same person, and he's already posted a link (which he seems to post in many place) where I have already filed a checkuser against him, why the offer? Does he believe that Steelmate and I are multiple personalities, one he believes to be William Mauco that knows how to submit checkuser requests and the other an Armenian wikipedian interested in the Bagramyan Battalion that needs assistance in submitting checkuser requests? Are multiple personalities considered socks? :)Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 05:09, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rejected. Please present a coherent case for why I should perform the check, and not this haphazard listing. This is the umpteenth time you've come here listing three or four different established identities and asking them all to be against some new account or other.

Dmcdevit, some of the facts were already presented by myself, User:Grandmaster and User:Kober. Because the suspicions are raised with regards to pairs of the accounts listed above, namely

(as presented by myself and Grandmaster)

  • banned Artaxiad vs. Yerkatagear and Steelmate;
  • banned Fadix vs. Yerkatagear and Steelmate;
  • Andranikpasha (on parole) vs. Yerkatagear and Steelmate;
  • banned Bassenius/Verjakette vs. Yerkatagear and Steelmate

(as presented by Kober)

  • Pocopocopocopoco vs. Steelmate
The reasons for requesting all these in one request (my original was Artaxiad, Fadix and Andranikpasha checked against Yerkatagear and Steelmate) was to prevent filing duplicate crossing requests and to check all accounts at once. Moreover, banned user Artaxiad has extensive history of sock accounts, so was banned Fadix found to have such. Bassenius/Verjakette are two other confirmed sock accounts which edit in similar POV and style. The similarity of edits by Yerkatagear and Steelmate to those contributors is presented in my evidence above. Also, substantial evidence on User:Andranikpasha activity is presented here [22], that naturally raises suspicions about this account as well.
I would also like to remind that User:Lucasbfr moved the large portion of related discussion to the talk page trying to facilitate the checkuser procedure, yet Pocopocopocopoco and Steelmate continued posting here, essentially trying to prevent checkuser from running. Please, check the talk page for their arguments and attempts to prevent checkuser process to see why their relation to the listed accounts should be checkusered.
If these requests need to be filed separately, please, let each of us know. Thanks. Atabek (talk) 13:46, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks, now Im out of this list and stopped "to be a sock of Artaxiad":) Atabek, if even the "user Artaxiad has extensive history of sock accounts, so was banned Fadix found to have such", do you think it is enough to list a large number of recognized and veteran users (its even not fact that all of them are Armenians) here? Looks like a kind of "fishing" and no deal with WP:Sock_puppetry#Characteristics_of_sock_puppets. Andranikpasha (talk) 14:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a clear example of gaming and abuse of the Requests for checkuser process. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 19:21, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Still no Declined for the same reason. Please file requests coherently and with clear evidenc. Accusations against half a dozen known distinct people stinks of using CheckUser as a bludgeon against enemies. Dmcdevit·t 05:07, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Code letter: F

Bassenius (talk · contribs) is a brand new account, which soon after creation started edit warring and making controversial edits on a number of articles. His editing style resembles the banned users, most likely to be Artaxiad. Grandmaster 14:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added one more suspicious User:Verjakette, established on October 29, and editing only disputed articles. I would also check User:Bassenius against banned User:Fadix and User:Robert599, both known for multiple abusive account creation. For User:Bassenius most recent revert war, please, check Shusha page history. Thanks. Atabek 15:35, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that I am being targeted by abusive editors such as Atabek (talk · contribs) who evade dialog and try to impose their opinion forcefully. I regard Grandmaster's motion for checkuser as an act of vengeance and abuse of his administrative privileges aimed at settling scores with editors with whom he disagrees in editorial process. It was brought to my attention that Grandmaster (talk · contribs) has been practicing edit vengeance for a long time, frivolously destroying several accounts this year for no reason other than pushing his often entirely unsubstantiated point of view and keeping honest editors out of Wikipedia. 1. I request the enactment of a disciplinary motion against Atabek (talk · contribs) for not complying with Wiki rules and edit worring. His usual tactic includes responding to requests for factual evidence with irrelevant statements, followed by unwarranted edit cancellations. I suggest to suspend his account for one year. 2. I request the enactment of a disciplinary motion against Grandmaster (talk · contribs) for abusing his administrative powers and edit worring by suspending his account indefinitely, given the long time he has been in practice of his transgressions. Verjakette (talk) 03:55, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Verjakette, I wonder why would you assume bad faith calling me "abusive editor" without specifically being familiar with my editing activity. Please assume good faith, checkuser is a formal procedure, and it's necessary in this case to ensure neutral editing and avoid violations of basic Wikipedia regulations. Thanks. Atabek (talk) 08:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I've noticed from the writing style of Verjakette and Bassenius, it's completely different from Artaxiad. This is judging from the incoherent writing of Artaxiad's sock user:Vonones. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 03:56, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Verjakette loaded pictures with camera information claiming he holds the copyright, it was generated on September 24, 2006 [23] I wasn't aware that Artaxiad or Fadix were in Armenia in September 24, 2006, I wasn't aware that either one ever visited Armenia. I could be mistaken in Artaxiad’s cases, but I doubt Artaxiad has a Canon EOS Digital rebel XT… its cost was about near a thousand dollars in 2006, a little too expensive for a teenager, how many teenagers handle a digital SLR camera anyway? Bassenius could be a sock of Artaxiad but Atabek’s intrusion here by including Fadix, when he knows how Fadix is sensitive when being falsely accused of socking is a provocation. You can tell from the edits it is obviously not him. - Fedayee (talk) 04:04, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Verjakette, I'm not an admin, just a regular editor, and if you have nothing to do with banned users, you have nothing to worry about. Checkuser will help clear you from suspicions. Your nervous reaction actually shows that there's a need for checkuser. I've been checkusered several times, and never ever objected. Feel free to file an RFCU on me any time you like, I will support such a request. Since there have been way too many socks recently on Armenia - Azerbaijan related articles (I counted about 20 at least), another checkuser won't hurt, considering similarity in editing style of some of the new folks with indef banned ones. Grandmaster (talk) 07:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser is not for fishing my friend. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 16:48, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it's not. It is for exposing socks, so if none of the aforementioned editors uses any, I don't understand what this whole fuss is about. And why do you personally take so much interest in this issue? Grandmaster (talk) 14:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because checkusering new users with no evidence that they may be suspected socks of the banned users does not create a welcoming environment for new users and goes against WP:AGF. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 14:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pocopocopocopoco: this is not the place to debate Checkuser policy. Please discontinue. Everyone else debating this, also please discontinue, thanks. What I'd like to see are some diffs that demonstrate there is questionable behaviour and correlatable behaviour. Please don't just name off editors and ask the CUs to look through all contributions searching for justification, we don't always have time for that. Therefore:  Additional information needed ++Lar: t/c 22:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Bassenius (talk · contribs) is a brand new account. The problem with this user is that he instantly jumped into edit warring on such troubled articles as Shusha and Nagorno-Karabakh. I must note that editing disputes on the topic related articles resulted in 2 arbcom cases, the latest one being Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2. Sock abuse was one of the serious issues. On Shusha Bassenius made at least 2 reverts: [24] [25], in addition to a number of controversial edits. And then we have Hnarakert (talk · contribs), another new account, which only edited talk page of Shusha. Shusha is quite an obscure article, and the fact that new users started editing Wikipedia from that article looks very strange, considering that they all tend to support Verjakette. Verjakette was involved in edit warring on a number of pages, Shusha, Ganja and Nagorno-Karabakh being a few of them. A few examples of his edit warring: [26] [27] [28] On Shusha he reverted a Wikipedia admin, among others: [29] Considering seemingly coordinated activities of those 3 accounts, the RFCU is necessary to establish whether there’s a connection between those users, and most importantly with previously banned editors, such as Artaxiad and Robert599, as their editing style strongly resembles that of those banned users. Grandmaster (talk) 07:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Confirmed: Haykbanuk is Artaxiad.
 Stale: Azizbekov and Robert599
Red X Unrelated: (still) Fadix
 Likely: that Bassenius, Verjakette, and Hnarakert are a single person, however,  Inconclusive as to whether that is Artaxiad or not. Probably you'll need to get an admin to make a judgment call.

Looks like a single purpose account who reverted the article about Nagorno-Karabakh. --Grandmaster 06:34, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added anon IP, which made a revert at Armenian Revolutionary Federation removing 6 or more references, and at Maraghar Massacre removing a fact tag without any explanation. Needs to be checked against both User:Artaxiad and User:Fadix (and yes, I know that Artaxiad and Fadix alone are not the same user). Thanks. Atabek 12:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added another suspicious account that made its very first edit by deleting info from quite an obscure article. Grandmaster 12:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added 69.77.169.2, an open proxy. Please remove if we should not list open proxies there. Artaxiad, if you are reading this please stop creating accounts and using open proxies (like 202.28.186.3). I think we should remove Fadix, don't think they are same people, but can be. Any evidences? By the way, Gurgen might refer to Gurgen Yanikyan, whose assasination of Turkish diplomats resulted in establishment of terrorist organizations including ASALA and JCAG. It might be just a name, as well. DenizTC 02:42, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can we also check these accounts to clear suspicions? I listed Artaxiad's recent socks in my previous submission below. Grandmaster 16:19, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added another IP, which judging by the discussion on its talk appears to be an open proxy. --Grandmaster 05:43, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grandmaster, only today I saw you added me to this list... I had nothing against to be checked out but I do hope you have any other reasons for your suggestion except our discussions related to some articles on history... Andranikpasha 16:24, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another open proxy that might be Artaxiad is 69.77.169.2. I guess if they turn out to be sockpuppets of Artaxiad, the worst that will happen would be banning Artaxiad's army of sockpuppets. Nothing bad for an already banned user. Anyway, please take into account that Hu1lee and Vonones both stopped editing (possibly after being aware of this discussion) by the evening of September 6, and Vonones was making like hundreds of edits a day before that. Hope this won't affect checkuser. This is also a good place to look at. DenizTC 13:38, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the late message, I have been very busy lately. Just wanted to note the following open proxy that I re-found just now (I was searching the archives of incident/checkuser related admin sites for my name following Andranikpasha's comments about me, to see whether there were other prior discussions about me): User talk:202.28.186.3. This blocked open proxy is obviously Artaxiad, as it can be seen from the only edit done by him using this proxy: [30]. DenizTC 17:54, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hu1lee was blocked as sock of Azizbekov (even though he could be sock of Artaxiad), and Vonones was blocked as a sock of Artaxiad. I would still like to have an official checkuser performed on Hu1lee and other accounts listed here. Grandmaster 19:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Andranikpasha contacted me in an email, and after looking through the edit histories, I've come to the conclusion that he is a good-faith editor, and I will assume with good faith that he is not a sock-puppet. While he and the confirmed sock-puppet Artaxiad have edited similar subjects, I see no "tag team" editing, nor shared POV. In fact, Andranikpasha seems to make very little additions to the text (therefore not inserting POV), instead finding sources and improving formatting. Also, his "mainspace" (article) edits go right up until today,[31] where Artaxiad's stop abruptly on April 9.[32] In conclusion, I have crossed Andranikpasha off the list as it is very clear that we have a case of mistaken identity.
But have you performed a checkuser on this user? Artaxiad stopped contributing on 9 April because he was banned from Wikipedia, after that he returned with an army of socks, some of which are listed here. I think we need to be sure that we are not dealing with a sock account, so it is in the interest of Andranikpasha himself to clear himself of any suspicions. Grandmaster 04:17, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added another sock account that was used to rv Church of Kish. --Grandmaster 04:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Inconclusive: what we have here is a lot of fishy SPAs on possibly proxies. Admins should probably just block on behavior. Artrama = MikchaelKrostiv, but that's all that I can verify with IP evidence. Dmcdevit·t 09:42, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ashkani:  Possible bordering on  Likely. This will need an admin's judgment call. I can say that it is the same geographical area, but on a different ISP. However, Artaxiad's IP is already blocked, so that's what would happen if he were using a work/school/etc. IP instead. It's obviously not a new user, but it's the only user on its IP, which makes it more likely it is someone who switched IPs recently. Dmcdevit·t 03:51, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could be a sock of User:ParthnianShots (ex-Surena) (also banned), whom I had actually suspected of being the sock of some other user to begin with. Maybe User:ArmenianJoe which was considered earlier and found not to be related to Artaxiad can be compared to him - there are a number of editors running parallel sock accounts I think. I know for a fact that another banned user, GreekWarrior, also regularly uses socks on a variety of articles just to troll, could it be him? Baristarim 21:09, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
