We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect and walkable to almost everywhere we wanted. The service was great and everyone was just pleasant to deal with. The rooftop was a fantastic addition to just hangout and start/end the day on a easy note.
The rooms are really efficient of space usage but can definitely benefit from just a little more space and a bit of renovation. The only reason it's not a five is that they decided to "soundproof" the rooms by boarding up the windows which is a really interesting move.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 133891233Oct 27, 20241 check-in
This hotel is a good option between Gaslamp and East Village. But be aware that the place is dated. I was annoyed by the very bright automatic lights in the bathroom which also activated a very noisy fan.
Overall, my suite room was spacious.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nickolas E.San Diego, CA513032May 19, 2024
Staying at the gaslamp suites. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about my stay when I arrived. They have a nice rooftop over look, perfect for enjoying a drink or a coffee.
I am staying in a very small room, which is disappointing. But all services have been punctual and efficient.
They charge 40$ per night for valet with in & out privileges.
Great location in the heart of downtown. I give this a solid 4 star.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ariana C.Los Angeles, CA277Dec 28, 2024
If I could give the hotel 0 starts I would. Upon arrival I waited for front desk to check us in because no one was there. Check in went well, but front desk was very pushy about using valet services and seemed upset when I did not want to pay $45 for their services. Keycards were given to room 206, the smallest room ever. I mean I have seen cruise ships with bigger rooms than the room we were in. The room was in the back of the hotel, seemed like a storage room, with no windows anywhere, dirty bedsheets and pillows!!, and dust everywhere. It seemed like no one had stayed there in years. The bed frame was dirty and dusty. The shower was rusty and dirty. My SO and I went downstairs to ask for a different room and the male worker at the front desk said no there's no rooms. He then said he would send us extra linens. The linens sent up were two bedsheets a blanket and one pillow. I ended up taking everything off the bed and doing it myself. It was a mess and we were very displeased with our stay. Paying almost $200 a night for a room that is the size of a small storage room with dirty bedsheets and no windows is not worth the price! We were gonna stay a second night but we left because they were not accommodating. Beware when booking.

It was nice and convenient. The staff was very nice. The room was a bit small but it was perfect for one night (maybe two). I believe you have to pay for parking, (I parked on public structure). The price was reasonable for the room and location.

Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 26, 2024Previous reviewI booked a City View suite. While I will say the room was clean and reflected the period of the hotel, the were other issues that a total deal breakers.
The older, thin and uninsulated windows, one of which was not properly sealed, allowed for the non-stop late night to early morning noise to disrupt my night. This is a feature of this location and should be noted on the website or disclosed to anyone booking a city view suite. A simple heads up at check in would have allowed me to request an interior suite. The solution offered by the front desk? "You should have called down for ear plugs." I was so shocked at the onus being on me to resolve the problem.
I have reached out to the hotel for further feedback back. To date, no response.
Just a caution that a room with a view is a room without appropriate or adequate conditions for sleeping. - Nerissa R.Laguna Hills, CA05132Aug 4, 2024
I absolutely love the aesthetic of this place! If you watch American Horror Story, this is definitely giving s5 vibes! It's in the Gaslamp Quarter, so yes, we could hear everything going on outside at night, but that is to be expected, given the proximity. As others have mentioned, there is no designated parking for the building. They only offer valet for $45/day, which is totally worth it. We would definitely stay here again, no complaints from us!

Our reservation at Gaslamp Plaza Suites was for a San Diego overnight trip. It's perfectly situated in the heart of the Gaslamp quarter.
We arrived around 6pm. It took some time to get to the hotel with Fifth Street closed off for the night and the one-way streets made it difficult to get to the front/valet. We ended up parking at the lot adjacent to the building. The 3 stars for this review are largely for the fantastic valet guys. At check-in, the first valet walked with us to our car, offered to take our bags (we didn't need it) and took care of re-parking.
At the front desk we met Pablo who quickly checked us in. We got to our room, dropped off our bags, then headed out for dinner. It was my daughter's first time there, so we planned to also walk around and decide on our plans for the next day. When we returned for the night, my daughter mentioned that the bathroom set-up was a bit weird. I then noticed the extra wall handlebars, lowered hand towel holders and shower seat -- it was handicap accessible. The rest of the room was otherwise spacious, clean and set up normally, so the bathroom didn't bother us that much since it was just an overnight stay.
In the morning, the woman at check-out asked how our stay was, I mentioned being confused over being given a handicap accessible room, but she didn't acknowledge the comment. She processed my credit card and thanked us for our stay. She wasn't really paying attention. The valet however, warmly greeted us as we walked out, quickly got our car, opened the doors and wished us a great day.
Overall, a good stay in a vintage, art deco style hotel at a great location with wonderful valet service. Unfortunately, I don't think we would choose it for an extended stay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Amanda U.Minneapolis, MN1699124Jan 16, 2024
We were staying at the Wyndham around the corner which shares a valet station with this hotel. While getting into our vehicle at the valet station, our 3 year old said he needed to use the restroom to which the valet said 'right this way' and brought us inside the hotel. Upon entry, Mary at the desk shouted 'this isn't a public bathroom'. The valet proceeded to guide us to the elevator stating 'they are staying next door and the little one has to go to the restroom'. She proceeded to say 'too bad'. My husband explained how this was a bathroom emergency as he's only 3 and recently potty-trained. Mary continued to state we were not allowed and she put her hand in my husband's face, very aggressive behavior to demonstrate, especially in front of children. The valet didn't care and brought us anyway which resulted in a 'you better come talk to me when you're done' from Mary. She yelled at us multiple times with a lobby full of people. When we tried to talk to a manager, he stood up for Mary and said how 'you have to understand, we have a lot of homeless people in this city'.
A few points:
1. Our child is 3. A 3 year old should never be denied a bathroom.
2. Our child was clearly not a homeless person off the street.
3. The valet that is in front of this building and shares a valet station with this hotel brought us into the hotel.
4. We had no idea that the bathroom was not supposed to be for our use (again, the employee brought us in there) therefore this 'scene' should have been carried out privately among staff and NOT in front of guests, especially our 3 young children.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Joanna A.Tustin, CA81358Jul 31, 2024
Such a cute hotel! It has a vintage vibe with all the marble on the walls. We definitely enjoyed our stay! Our room was perfect!! Pablo at check in was so nice and gave us great recommendations for dinner. Our check out host, didn't get her name, was so nice!! She allowed us to have access to the terrace and enjoy the views before we left. The views were beautiful both day and night time. Location is perfect, right in the heart of Gaslamp.
