Five stars for the lady who did my pedicure ... She was really sweet and didn't rush the whole process ... I make sure to carry my own chemical-free nail polish remover , nail polish and cream as i don't like using chemical loaded cosmetic products ... she happened to like my products more than her salon stuff lol
Five stars to the cleanliness and modern look of the place
Zero stars to the receptionist ... First she didn't greet, no smile on her face at all!!! Please have a smiling happy person at your reception...Every block in chicago has a nail spa, just saying lolHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Cindy C.Chicago, IL442710Jul 5, 2019
I think it's important to note the bad reviews out here are quite dated. I've been coming here for a while, as they're located on the corner of my street. I've always thought the service was good here. Just had a pedicure today, and it was beyond good -- it was incredible! They have brand new chairs, and the woman giving me a pedicure did such an incredible job -- and included a relaxing foot/lower leg massage as well. The color choices are unlimited. There are places that are $10 cheaper, but the ambiance and service at this Nail Bar more than makes up for it!

Came here last week and was so excited there was a place by me that was open late night (until 10). The staff was super friendly and the place was clean which is why they get 2 stars.
However, I paid $82 (with tip) for a No Chip Mani & a Pedi, and my no-chip manicure didn't even last a week without chipping. I`m not talking just a little chip on the end (although that happened within 4 days), but over half the nail polish on a finger GONE. Pretty upset, as this isn't a cheap cost and no-chip manicures typically last me at LEAST a month. I won't be returning.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Chiara H.Frisco, CO8128425Jul 4, 2007
I went there to buy a gift certificate for my mom and didn't have a pleasant experience.
Upon my entrance, a couple of employees were sitting behind the desk, giggling around with each other. I waited patiently for 5 minutes until they finished their ditz-fest and finally acknowledged me. I wouldn't have minded so much if they didn't JUST acknowledge me. One of them, who appeared to be the receptionist, gave me a hasty greeting and told me to hold on before she and her co-worker disappeared into the back room for 10 more minutes.
So I was standing there in a completely empty salon feeling like an idiot. Just as I began to figure that they'd forgotten about me, the receptionist finally emerged from the back room, gigging uncontrollably. At this point, I was crabby. I had coordinated my schedule so I could drop in for 10 minutes to purchase a gift certificate, but because the employees there were goofing off, I had to wait for 15 minutes without getting anything done, and I was already late for something!
So Miss Giggly arrived at the desk just when the phone rang. Without even looking at me, she answered the phone and gabbed for five more minutes. When she was finally done, I inquired about getting a gift certificate, but she had no idea what I was talking about, so she made me wait even more as she went to the back room to get her giggle buddy. Miss Giggly 2 came out, and after I told her what I wanted, she apparently felt the need to multi-task: ringing up a gift card for me while gossiping with a customer who just walked in (who was obviously a regular). In other words, it took her fifteen freaking minutes to give me a gift certificate.
Thanks a lot, Nail Bar, for wasting 45 minutes of my life. Here's a tip: fire your incompetent (and possibly high) employees and maybe I'll come back.Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Olive S.Kentfield, CA744061Mar 9, 2008
I came here for part of my friend's birthday gift and I was really disappointed in this place.
First of all, the staff completely ignored me for 5 minutes when I walked in. Did they think I worked there or something??? Haha jk. Finally someone asked if I needed help and I said I was with the party so she told me to wait.
After 3 of us were there, they said that we had to straight right at 4:45 and that wasn't fun. So we chose our colors and I really wanted a french manicure but the nail tech told me it would cost $5 more. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was already paying $28 for the damn manicure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh I was so pissed. OK number one, I haven't gotten a mani in over 2 years. I hate getting them and they are just not my thing. Sure I have ugly hands and my friends are embarassed for me but I don't care!
So I chose this dark Chanel Vamp looking color. The nail tech was really nice and everything but she didn't do a good job. I asked her to file my nails square but she made two of my nails uneven and round. UGH! So annoying. And she didn't even do a good job cutting my cuticles. I'm not trying to be racist, but I trust Vietnamese ladies more to do a better job. And she wasn't so maybe that's why...
For $28, we got some hand scrub, then they put our hands in some hot gel and had oven mitts over and then the nails. Ok that is such a freakn joke. At nail.com on Diversey/Halsted, they do a MUCH better job and even include a nice hand massage for $10 cheaper.
I didn't like how we had a party but you couldn't really talk to anyone since we were in a long line (7 of us total). I wished they had some private area and if we could be in a circle or something. Whatever.
I will never go back to my place or get my nails done. I ruined one nail right after I was finished and then ruined 2 more by the time I got home. Sigh, I am not a girly girl...
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Lauren R.Chicago, IL030Apr 5, 2009
This place is super close to my apartment and looks impeccable on the inside, so when my sister came to visit, as I treat, I took her there for a manicure - despite the insane prices.
The receptionist barely acknowledged us for a full 3 minutes at least. It felt weird. Then, we were seated for our manicures, but they seated us really far apart despite the nearly empty salon? When we were together?
The nail tech did an adequate job, but told me her whole personal (strange and twisted) history and chatted with her mother on a cell phone throughout my appointment.
Basically, customer service is shitty and not worth what you pay.
I recommend a place close to there, Vogue Nail Salon (http://www.yelp.com/biz/vogue-nail-salon-chicago) that offers a SUPREME eye brow wax ($12) and a great spa mani/pedi ($30). Way more economical, better customer service.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Gladys C.Los Angeles, CA400494427Aug 20, 2006
I expected more from Nail Bar - especially since they charge you a decent amount. It's no cheapy nail salon, the atmosphere is nice, the layout of the salon is awesome! There are individual spa chairs on one side and an actual nail bar for manis on the other side.
I was disappointed with the service - it was like going to a cheapy place - fast, impersonal, and not well done.
Definitely not coming back!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Erin D.Greenville, SC4914Apr 8, 2008
Only service worth going for is brow waxing.
The brow wax is done very well and the price is reasonable.
But the manicure-STAY AWAY. Do not subject your nails to such torture. The manicurist didn't speak very well, she filed my nails round and not square like I requested and now to the kicker...she punctured my cuticles twice, stabbing me so badly on my index finger that it bled for over 15 mintues before it stopped.
No sorry, no...apologies. Plus the hand massage was over in a blink. I went in during the day, when there was no one there but me. Everything was rushed, I felt it was overpriced, not professional, and for days my nails, where she drew blood, caused me pain.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Tiffany S.Uptown, Chicago, IL851563Dec 14, 2009
It's really just expensive. They get you with the kitschy fancy look they have, but my experience here has been just as average as it has been at a nail salon in the mall. A completely anonymous one.
You'd do yourself a solid if you went to Paint down the street. It's just as cutesy, and much cheaper.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Sarah V.Chicago, IL752433166Jul 6, 2011
Starting a new job... for the second time... means a few things. The wardrobe needs to be pressed and cat fur-free, the tan lines covered up, and the nails looking professional and free of basically all the latest fads (how much do I love OPI's shatter lacquer?!) Unfortunately all this prepping came on a holiday, and finding an open nail salon on the 4th of July was coming up slim pickins'. As luck would have it, Nail Bar was open for business and had a chair waiting just for me, and two blocks from the condo, no less!
At $17 this manicure is a little pricier than I typically pay, but with the shape I was in and the festivities going on, I wasn't going to complain. My nail tech did a fantastic job at removing all my cuticles and oiling them up nicely. I find a lot of nail salons are nervous to really get in those cuticles, but not my gal.
The selection of Essie and OPI polishes looks a little sparse at first, but then I realized it was just scaled back to the colors that are actually in demand. Who needs the added stress of deciding between twelve different reds, anyway? I'm also inclined to believe they have a summer selection they display, and a winter one. (I hunted for signature fall colors, such as Chinchilly, just to prove my own theory.)
Nail Bar also sells essentials like Dabu nail strengthener, which is a total gem, polishes and even flip flops. The receptionist is a take-charge lady who knows her stuff and makes sure your experience was on point.
Nail Bar will most certainly become my go-to spot in the neighborhood when I can't get to Pinky. And FYI, credit cards accepted, cash tips preferred. If you're curious about prices and don't want a cute little surprise come pay time, NB has posted their "menu" on the window, convenient!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0
