Audra’s 4-star review: Gro is set in Bucktown, which is a bit of a hike from Lincoln Park/Lake View, which is where I live. However, Juan has been cutting my hair since before I moved to Chicago from Michigan, and he does such a nice job that I don't usually mind going out there every few months or so. The salon is pretty expensive at $50 a cut plus tip, but coloring seems to be more reasonable. The salon itself is very friendly -- the receptionist always greets me promptly and alerts Juan that I'm there. The set up of the surrounding is very modern, but not too in-your-face trendy; the music isn't too loud or too crazy, so it's still a relaxing experience. -
Audra’s 5-star review: Travis gave me the best hair cut and color of my entire life at this little salon in Wrigleyville. My hair never looked that good! Unfortunately, it was a bit out of my price range and I had to move on. I just cannot justify $60 plus tip for a hair cut and (get this) $150 for a color and shine coat and trim. Youch! -
Audra’s 4-star review: This little spot is a nice place to get your nails done. It's very reasonably priced and has a great range of hours (where else can you get your nails done on a Sunday afternoon or a Saturday at 8:00 p.m.?). Splurge the extra $5-10 and get a spa manicure and/or pedicure. It makes the treatment so much more moisturizing than just the normal mani/pedis do. Ask for Barbara; she is really sweet and does a very nice job! -
Audra’s 4-star review: This place has great tanning. It's kind of expensive, but really nice. They always have good bulbs in their beds and the staff is super nice and knowledgeable about products. A nice feature is you can put your package on hold rather than cancelling in the summer or whenever for only $5 a month. When you start up tanning again, they credit your first month with the money you had held your package with, and you don't have to pay the start-up fee. Most importantly, it's clean!!! -
Audra’s 4-star review: I'd never had a Brazilian wax before, but I decided to try one out here at Paint. Julie not only made me feel relaxed (which is a must when you're everything is just out in the open), she did a good job of minimizing the pain. All in all, it was a lot less painless than I had imagined, and by the end of the session I was totally comfortable with her. However, I can't seem to justify paying $50 for hair removal, regardless of where it's removed from, so I haven't been back. -
Audra’s 4-star review: A great spot to buy all your beauty supply needs. They have everything from shampoo to high end skin care products, nail polish to lotion, and it's all reasonably priced. Plus, they have a Pure Beauty club; every time you spend $100 you get a $10 gift certificate. Hair cuts, mani/pedis and facials are all available services on site. -
Audra’s 5-star review: I had a deep tissue massage here and walked out feeling like a brand new woman (Wonder Woman, perhaps?). At $90, it was a bit expensive, but totally worth it. The rain shower afterwards gives you time to snap out of it and come back to reality without just having to jump up and go home. Plus, it's a good time to get that massage oil off your skin and scalp.
