GENERAL APPROVAL - Renewal - “Enviro-Flo” and “Extra Heavy Duty Enviro-Flow” Polyethylene
Trench Drain Systems, manufactured by J. R. Smith Mfg. Company. See attached list for approved models.
DETAILS
These products are modular trench drain systems, pre-cast from corrosion-resistant polyethylene
interlocking modular components for on-site installations. The system consists of channels, closing endcaps,
inlet end-caps, catch basins, and grates of selected materials. Channels are pre-cast, sloped or nonsloped
(neutral) and interlocking, having smooth continuous waterway and recesses for grating lockdown
devices molded into the channel walls. End-caps are used to seal either ends of the channels or to remove
liquid from the channel. Knockout panels are provided on either ends of the catch basin for connection with
the channel. Grates are available in galvanized steel, stainless steel, cast iron, fiberglass, brass, or polymer
concrete. Grates can be solid, perforated, mesh, or slotted. The channels have a built-in slope of 0.6 percent
(0.344 0 )
The approval is subject to the following conditions:
1. These products may be used as open trench drain systems in residential or commercial installations.
2. Each trench drain system shall have a minimum slope of one (1) percent to the point of disposal.
Exception: It may have a minimum slope of 0.6 percent when installed outdoors to collect only rain
water.
3. The products shall be covered with approved grates as recommended by the manufacturer.
4. Joints sealant and joint components shall be of the same material.
5. All joints and connections shall be water-tight and ground to provide a smooth transition in
accordance with Section 94.316.0 of the Los Angeles Plumbing Code (LAPC), 2008 Edition.
6. All corners shall have smooth waterways.
DISCUSSION
A current production sample was tested and examined by the Mechanical Testing Laboratory. The material
and construction are equivalent to that prescribed by the Los Angeles Municipal Code in quality, strength,
effectiveness, durability and safety.
For this General Approval to be valid on any individual construction project in the City of Los Angeles, an
engineer or inspector of the Department of Building and Safety must make a determination that all conditions
of the General Approval required to provide equivalency have been met in the case of each construction
project under consideration.
This approval is granted under Sections 94.301.0, 94.307.0, 94.310.0, 94.313.0, 94.701.0, 94.706.0, 94.708.0
