2014 Model InformationMODEL NAME: KX85-IIMODEL CODE: KX85DEFLATEST KAWASAKI KX85RACE BIKES FOR FUTURE CHAMPIONSAt both the amateur and professional levels, Kawasaki has long been the dominant brand in minimotocrossing, with many of today's top professional riders getting their start on KX minicrossers.Kawasaki continues this tradition by offering completely revamped green meanies: the KX85 and KX85-II.Designed with the same philosophy of putting riders on the top step of the podium – a philosophy that hasnot changed since the creation of the KX brand 40 years ago – these new machines feature significantlyboosted engine and chassis performance; improved ergonomics care of all-new flush-fit bodywork, new seatand adjustable handlebar position; and sharp factory looks just like the KX450F ridden by Kawasakichampion Ryan Villopoto. With these new KX models, pushing to the front of the pack has never been so easy or so much fun.

BOOSTED ENGINE PERFORMANCEChanges to the 2-stroke racing engine result in increased power and torque across the rev-range.The gains are so significant that the engine can be considered a completely different unit from its highrevvingpredecessor.NEWNEWNEWEngineLiquid-cooled, two-stroke Single engine with piston reed valve induction.Cylinder bore treatment has changed from electrofusion coating to nikasil plating contributes to increaseddurability.Piston now features a single piston ring (previously two). The reduced friction helps to minimise mechanicalloss.Revised squish area contributes to the increased engine performance.NEWNEWNEWNEWNEWNEWPWK 28 semi-flat slide carburettor positions the nozzle jet close to the cylinder for sharp response acrossthe rev range. Carburettor settings were optimised to match the new engine changes.Carbon-fibre reeds with mesh oriented at 45o for ideal responsecharacteristics. Reed thickness (0.42 mm) ideal for low- and mid-rangeresponse.Precise, digital CDI ignition delivers a hot spark.Compact igniter with direct coupler eases maintenance.Resin blocks added to the crankshaft decrease the volume of thecrankcase. The resultant greater primary pressure ratio contributes toincreased engine performance.Increased tightness of the press fit of the crank pin, and largerdiameter(ø81 mm >> ø83 mm) crankshaft weights offer increasedrigidity and durability.Completely revised KIPS valve construction (3-piece >> 2 independentpieces) offers improved sealing, greatly contributing to increasedengine performance.Exhaust port shape was revised (and is now larger), furthercontributing to increased engine performance.Revised scavenging port shape also contributes to increasedperformance.Larger radiator is taller (200 mm >> 240 mm) and wider (110 mm >>112.6 mm), offering a more than 50% increase in cooling performance(5.6 kW >> 8.5 kW) to match the greater engine performance.Separate clutch cover gives easy access to the clutch.Pull-type clutch actuation for smooth operation and easy maintenance.Large air intake on the right side of the airbox improves airflow to theair cleaner.Environmentally friendly muffler reduces noise levels without sacrificing power. Steel wool layer betweenbaffle and glass wool layer extends glass wool service life. Enclosed muffler-end shape resists mud-clogging

NEWNEWNEWNEWNEWBOOSTED CHASSIS PERFORMANCEComplementing the increased engine performance, the chassis package benefits from numerous changesto the suspension and brake systems that allow young racers to ride at a higher pace.Supension36 mm inverted front fork features revised valve construction that delivers improved damping and greaterbottoming resistance. The new shim-stack type valves(the same style used on the larger KX models), updatedfrom port-style valves, generate greater compressionand rebound damping force, allowing higher-pacedriding and contributing to increased ride comfort.Revised front forkbottom cases(axle brackets) are12.5 mm shorter, resulting in greaterclearance in turns.Uni-Trak rearsuspension is adjustablefor compression andrebound damping, andpreload.2013 2014Revised compression damping mechanism for the rearshock allows compression damping force to be generated at slower stroke speeds, contributing to a morestable ride feel. The new mechanism is 24-way adjustable for compression damping, 21-way adjustable forrebound damping.Revised rear shock spring is approximately 150 g lighter.BrakesPetal disc brakes front and rear, just like the larger KX models, contribute to strong braking performance.Large-diameter 220 mm front brake gripped by a dual-piston caliper is complemented by a 184 mm disc andsingle-piston caliper at the rear.FrameSturdy perimeter frame, designed to harness the engine's power, offers the advantages of strength andtorsional rigidity, allowing young riders to push hard on the track.

SIZED RIGHTBeing on a bike that is sized right for a growing body is extremely important – especially for young up-andcomingracers learning how to get the most from themselves and their bikes. In addition to being available intwo sizes, as part of their makeover, the KX85/85-II get all-new bodywork that not only reinforces their KXlineage, but contributes to improved ergonomics for enhanced comfort and control.Adjustable handlebar: 6 positionsAn adjustable handlebar allows riders to custom-fit their riding position.NEWRiders are able to choose from six possible handlebar positions. Collars offer a choice of three heights (STD,+5 mm, +10 mm), while reversible handlebar clamps allow two forward/rearward positions (STD, +10 mmFWD).NEWNEWNEWNEWNEWSlim ergonomicsCompletely redesigned bodywork follows the direction of the larger KX450F and KX250F. In addition tocontributing to strong factory looks, the new parts form a slim ergonomics package that facilitates ridermovement.Fuel tank features a flatter top that contributes to the improved ergonomics. New tank volume is 5 litres.Slimmer (by up to 20 mm), flat-style seat, like on the KX450F/250F, makes it easier for riders to slide forwardand back to adjust their riding position.Minimalist engine shrouds were designed to be small and are slim where they come in contact with therider's legs. 2-tone design was achieved using a double-injection moulding process.Minimalist side covers were also made as small as possible.Seams between the shrouds, seat and side covers are very flush, which facilitates control as well as movingaround on the bike.Revised handlebar bend contributes to increased riding comfort and control, enabling dynamic riding andcatering to a wider range of riders. The 'bar is wider (720 mm >> 744 mm), 22 mm higher and 22.4 mmcloser to the rider.

UNMISTAKABLE KX DNANEWJust like our larger KX motocross models, the KX85 and KX85-II feature factory looks evocative of our worksracers. The all-new bodywork, sharp graphics package and numerous factory-style touches contribute to astrong KX family image and warn rivals of the race-winning potential housed in all KX motocross models.Factory styling detailsThe new bodywork and graphics of the KX85/85-II give them a strong resemblance to the larger KX models, enabling young racers to look just like Ryan Villopoto and other Kawasaki heroes when leading the pack.Revised front and rear fender designs match those used on larger KXmodels.NEWRevised fork guards connect only at the bottom. The new design (same asthat used on the KX450F/250F) helps preventmud build-up. Kawasaki logo moulded intothe plastic adds to the big bike image.Rims are coated in black alumite1 – just likeour factory racers.NEWFork and rear shock adjusters have a blue alumite1finish like our U.S. factory racers.NEWFactory-stylegraphics complement the racy new performance.hiNEWBrushed aluminium finish on the swingarm contributes to thequality image.NEWRear shock's aluminium body features a black anodised finish.
