APPLICATION DEADLINE NOV. 1
The Boston Globe summer internship program began more than 60 years ago as an opportunity for college students interested in journalism to gain practical experience at a major news organization.
The largest group of interns works in the News department as general assignment reporters. Other intern reporters will be hired for the Express Desk (breaking Metro and Regional news), Business, Sports, and Living/Arts departments. We also have intern positions in the Photography, Video, and Design departments, and on the News copy desk (nights).
Internships are NOT limited to students with journalism or communication majors.
ELIGIBLE:
* Enrolled undergraduate students and graduate school students graduating May 2025 or later
* Graduating college seniors (with a May or June 2025 graduation date)
An aptitude for journalism is the most important qualification for applicants. However, a previous internship is recommended. Summer interns work as full-time employees for 12 weeks. Interns are paid a weekly wage and work-shifts vary. There is a writing coach for the reporting interns, and discussions with editors and staff on a range of journalism topics for all of the interns.
GENERAL INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
*12-week mandatory commitment
*Working 1 (one) scheduled weekend day per week
*Having a valid driver’s license at the time the application is submitted and being comfortable driving -- only for reporter, video and photo applicants. Interns cover stories all around New England and driving to and from news scenes is standard. (A personal car is not required.)
