Speed Freaks boxed set?

True ... true. Why make something new when you can flog off an existing product. That’s gonna bump the price up another Tenner though.

I just noticed how eerily similar the new GW buggy is to my wheeled Comp entry.

Lot of stuff for one box, hopefully if the plastic is of lower quality it'll at least show on the price.

The downside of this is that I'll have to pass on those Cawdor I was planning on getting, because this box is something I have to have. And since it's going to be Orktober, it might not even be the only new release for orks... it's good to be green. :D

Rock´n´ Roll Racing came to my mind when I saw the SF box. You had dudes from different planets duking it out on a race track.

How to implement it for 40K? That´s easy. Just invent a parallel dimension like in BB for WHFB where the different races are no longer waging war against each other but settle their disputes via brutal sports games. You can then have Ork Buggies, Wartrakks & Bikes racing against SM Landspeeders, Trikes & Bikes. You ´ll have to have options for increasing armour, guns, engines and other wargear for an interesting campaign like in Necromunda.
The only daunting task would be to build an interesting race track consisting preferably of modular tiles which can be switched around to build several different race tracks.

Does anyone remember the game Gretchinz? I get the feeling it’s going to be a cross between that and Dark Future.

Love this idea, Admech vs Mek boy. Racing at its finest.

I'm imagining something close to pod racing in that one lame star wars movie. Just not sure how the bikers fit in unless it's more like the Cannonball run.

Maybe the bikers are just there to provide some extra challenge for the racers. Or maybe it's a team sport, with every team having a vehicle weight limit that can be spread across multiple vehicles - ie. one team has three bikes, another went for a buggy. Then there's that one madboy taking to the track in a stripped-down dragster with a looted plasma destroyer bolted on top...

Or a Deathstrike missile on wheels with a rudimentary steering system. Or...

It would be so cool if they based it on some distant undiscovered planet in the imperium, lost in a warp storm that’s got an uneasy piece going on between a few races for some reason, maybe slight chaos corruption etc, so it became like the Tatooine pod races.

New entrants could even drop in, every now and again from the warp, a bit like the latest Thor film. 80’s/90’s GW would do that but they take the lore too seriously these days.

It would be cool. But unlikely. I think someone else called it right. It'll be based on Vigilus.

From the Warhammer community Lore post.
"These force fields proved so effective that even when an Ork Waaagh! smashed into Vigilus, the greenskins were unable to assail the hivesprawls beyond, so took to seeking entertainment elsewhere by engaging in violent races across the sweeping open plains that separate the vast hivesprawls."

The Ork violent races comment seems an intriguing aside in an article on space wolves & gsc...

I really hope it’s a racing game. Ever since I saw the boys at BOYL do a Deathrace 40K back in 2015 I’ve been wanting to do something similiar.

Your best bet for a rules format would be to take a look at Car Wars from the 80s and then streamline it for your needs. Why? Well, the rules were really complex and in some cases unforgiving. An unfortunate player who failed a maneuver check could spent several turns rolling with his car before finally crashing. Another game which comes to mind would be Gaslands but I haven´t tried it, yet.
Awesome buggy by the way. Just a few tips for your next orky car show. Put the model on a rotating platform and position a gorgeous green-skinned ork beauty in a revealing attire next to it. People who come to your car show to purchase one your buggies will think they bought the woman too.

@Wasteland, I’ve got Gaslands, Devils Highway, Dark Future, etc as well as trying to get in touch with Capt. Crook (in Oz) who put the original BOYL game together. It’s finding something simple, and well known, that my playing group can get behind, which is why I’m so excited about Speed Freaks.

Amazing. I will need this.

So, we've seen two of the three buggies shown in the box cover... surely three unique buggies in one box is too much to hope for?
