신흥 강국 또는 신흥 강국은 국제 문제에 있어서 상당한 영향력을 가지고 있는 국가 또는 국가의 연합이다.그러한 힘은 지역적으로든 세계적으로든 국제 관계에서 보다 강력한 지위나 역할을 갖기를 열망하며, 그러한 목표가 잠재적으로 달성될 수 있는 충분한 자원과 발전 수준을 가지고 있다.

특성.

"신흥 권력"이라는 용어의 개념화는 거의 없다.따라서 어떤 국가가 신흥 강국인지 결정할 표준이나 합의된 방법이 없다.그러나 신흥국가의 근본적인 특징은 경제발전이 필요하고 정치군사적 출현에 대비한 예비적 성격이어서 역시 신흥경제국이라는 점이다.[1]한 나라가 신흥 강국이 될 수도 있지만, 다른 무엇보다도 그들의 세계적 영향력을 증가시킬 수 있는 잠재력이나 희망만을 가진 신흥 경제국이라는 주장이 제기되었다.이는 주로 7차원의 국가권력인 지리, 인구, 경제, 자원, 군사, 외교, 국가 정체성 등 여러 제한적 요인 때문이다.[2]전통적으로 국가권력의 7차원에서 모두 강대국이나 초강대국만이 성공했다.

브릭스(BRICS[3])는 신흥 강국으로 자주 언급되지만, 발전 단계와 잠재력의 정도가 다양하다.예를 들어 한때 초강대국이었던 러시아는 이제 소련 붕괴에 따른 국가권력의 일부 측면에서 다시 부상하고 있다.중국과 인도가 잠재적 강대국으로 부상하고 있는 반면 브라질은 잠재적 강대국으로 부상하고 있다.
