'드레비'라는 별명을 가진 존 드레빙거(John Drebinger, 1891년 3월 23일 ~ 1979년 10월 22일)는 50년 넘게 뉴욕의 미국 스포츠 작가였다. 1929년과 1963년 사이에 그는 월드시리즈 경연대회 때마다 뉴욕 타임즈에 총 203경기의 주연을 썼다.[1]

전기

드레빙거는 스태튼아일랜드의 커티스 고등학교를 졸업하고 1911년 스태튼아일랜드 어드밴스(Staten Island Advance)에서 일하기 시작했다.[2] 1923년 뉴욕 타임즈로 옮겨 1964년 은퇴할 때까지 그곳에서 일했다.[3] 드레빙거는 브루클린 다저스와 뉴욕 자이언츠, 뉴욕 양키스를 취재하는 스포츠라이터로 활동하면서 123만 마일(198만 km)을 여행한 것으로 추정했다.[4]

1973년 드레빙거는 야구 저술로 J. G. 테일러 스핑크 상으로 미국야구작가협회로부터 상을 받았다.[4] 스핑크상 수상자들은 보통 명예의 전당 "작가들 날개"라고 불리는 것으로 국립 야구 명예의 전당 및 박물관에서 인정받고 있다.[5]

드레빙거는 1979년 10월 노스캐롤라이나의 한 요양원에서 사망했다.[6] 그의 유족으로는 아내 매들린과 아들이 있었다.[7]
