셸팟 크릭은 델라웨어 주 뉴캐슬 카운티 북동쪽에 있는 델라웨어 강의 지류다.[6] 그럽 로드와 시플리 로드 사이의 하천은 39°49°19°N 75°3에서 나오먼 로드 남쪽이다.1′55″W / 39.82194°N 75.53194°W / 39.82194; 브랜디와인 백의 -75.53194; 약 6마일 동안 남동쪽으로 흐른 후 39°4에서 델라웨어 강으로 방류한다.4′05″N 75°30′16″W / 39.73472°N 75.50444°W / 39.73472; [7][8]엣지무어 근처 -75.50444. 1938년 이전에는 이 하천이 브랜디와인 크릭으로 흘러 들어갔으나, 이후 델라웨어 강으로 방향을 바꾸었다.[9]

이 유역은 배수 면적이 약 15평방마일이며, 주 지정 '피에몬트 분지'([8]Christina River, Brandywine Creek, Red Clay Creek, White Clay Creek, Naamans Creek, Shellpot Creek)에서 가장 교외화된 배수 지역이다.[10] 뉴캐슬 카운티, 칼핀 에지 무어 발전소, 구 케뮤어 에지 무어 발전소, 암트랙, 윌밍턴 시 등이 모두 폭풍우를 셸팟 크릭으로 방출한다.[11] 열대성 폭풍 앨리슨(1989년) 동안 하천은 기록적인 수준으로 범람했고, 유량은 분당 1300갤런에서 분당 360만갤런(또는 초당 8,000입방피트 이상)으로 증가했다.[9][12]

이 이름은 스웨덴 스콜파데 팔레트(터틀 폭포라는 뜻)[13]에서 유래한 것으로 역사적으로 '실패데스' '스킬팟' '실팟' 등으로 알려져 왔다.
