Biography

Null prior to absorbing part of the Prime Energy

Null is a creature that existed in the void from before the Creation of the World. Whenever things would appear inside the void, they would quickly be consumed by Null, returning things to a state of chaos. The Golden Goddesses created the lands and sky as a prison for Null in order to stop it. However, Null continued to create Rifts to swallow the world and return it to a void. In response, the Golden Goddesses created the Tris to repair the Rifts whenever they appeared. For millennia, Null was left sealed away deep beneath the surface of Hyrule.

Some time before the events of Echoes of Wisdom, Null hatched a plan to use the powerful artifact left behind by the goddesses, the Prime Energy, in order to turn the world back to void once more. This plan involved kidnapping and trapping the Tris that had been sealing its Rifts, with the intent being to use their power to create Echoes to summon hordes of monsters to weaken Hyrule.

It is suspected by Minister Lefte that Null was also aware that there were two individuals destined to thwart its plan. In response, Null started creating Rifts that targeted children. One of these rifts successfully captured Link, who was in fact the hero of legend. While his time imprisoned in the Still World left him unable to talk, he was able to escape. This fueled Link's desire to destroy the source of the Rifts once and for all, inadvertently setting Link on the path to defeat Null. A similar incident occurred with Zelda, the priestess of legend. Null was able to capture her with an Echo of Ganon, but her escape thanks to Link set her on the path to discover Null's true nature and take it down.

Zelda's quest to destroy Null involved unlocking the path to the Prime Energy. Null was able to take advantage of this by creating an echo of Zelda, in an attempt to trick the Prime Energy into bestowing its powers upon it. While the Zelda Echo is able to access the Prime Energy before the real Zelda can, the Prime Energy is not deceived by Null's plan; shattering into thirds; only one of which is granted to Null, with the other two granted to Link and Zelda. In a final confrontation, Zelda and Link set out to destroy Null, with Null setting out to destroy the pair to obtain their thirds of the Prime Energy.

Zelda and Link emerge victorious; ripping the Prime Energy out of Null, and using the power of the whole Prime Energy to destroy it forever.

Characteristics

Null is a formless being, naturally only capable of creating voids in the fabric of the world, which present as Rifts allowing access to Null's realm, the Still World.

Null, while an intelligent being capable of speech and complex plan formulation, is ultimately very simplistic in desire. Its solitary goal is to return the world to the void state that it was in prior to the intervention of the Golden Goddesses and to sate its endless hunger; a goal it has been pursuing since the creation of the world. As such, it has extensive knowledge of the history of Hyrule; allowing it to summon an Echo of Ganon, despite the figure being almost completely forgotten to time by the events of Echoes of Wisdom.

Prior to the events of Echoes of Wisdom, its kidnapping of the Tris grants it the ability to create Echoes like them, as well as incidentally giving it an appearance resembling one massive Tri.[citation needed]
