La Mirada Summary
History
La Mirada, California is a city located in the northwestern corner of Los Angeles County. It is bordered by the cities of Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, and Whittier. The city was incorporated in 1960 and has a population of approximately 48,000 people.
La Mirada was originally inhabited by the Tongva Native American tribe. The area was first settled by Spanish settlers in the late 1700s. The area was known as Rancho Los Coyotes and was used for cattle grazing and farming. In the late 1800s, the area was subdivided and sold to settlers. The city was named La Mirada, which means “the view” in Spanish, due to its scenic views of the San Gabriel Mountains.
