Lawrence Summary
Lawrence, Kansas is a city located in the northeastern part of the state, in Douglas County. It is the county seat and the sixth-largest city in the state. History
The area that is now Lawrence was first settled in 1854 by a group of New Englanders who were looking for a place to settle and build a new town. The town was named after Amos Lawrence, a prominent Boston businessman who had donated money to the Emigrant Aid Company.
