History
Montrose was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the Montrose Plantation, which was owned by one of the settlers. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton and corn. The town was also home to a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a sawmill.
