Lebanon, Nebraska is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state, in Saunders County. It is situated on the banks of the Platte River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town was founded in 1871, and has a population of approximately 1,000 people.
History
Lebanon was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Lebanon, Ohio. The town was named after the Ohio town, and was originally intended to be a stop on the Union Pacific Railroad. The town was officially incorporated in 1873, and the first post office was established in 1874.
The town grew slowly, but steadily, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.
In the 1920s, the town experienced a period of growth, as the Union Pacific Railroad expanded its operations in the area. This led to the construction of a new depot, which was completed in 1925.
The Great Depression hit Lebanon hard, and the town experienced a period of decline. However, the town was able to recover, and by the 1950s, it had become a thriving agricultural community once again.
