Newport Summary
Newport is a small city located in the northeast corner of Nebraska, in the United States. It is situated in the Platte River Valley, and is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 1,400 people, and is the county seat of Madison County.
History
Newport was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The city was named after Newport, Ohio, the hometown of the settlers. The city was incorporated in 1872, and the first post office was established in 1873.
