Epping Summary
Epping is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 6,411 at the 2010 census. Epping is home to the Rockingham County Fair, held annually in August.
History
Epping was first settled in 1768 by a group of settlers from Exeter, New Hampshire. The town was originally part of Exeter, but was incorporated as its own town in 1741. The town was named after Epping Forest in England.
In the 19th century, Epping was a major center for the production of woodenware, such as pails, tubs, and buckets. The town was also home to several mills, including a gristmill, a sawmill, and a woolen mill.
Geography
Epping is located in southeastern New Hampshire, in Rockingham County. It is bordered by Raymond to the north, Fremont to the east, Brentwood to the south, and Exeter to the west.
The town is located in the Piscataqua River watershed, and is drained by the Lamprey River. The highest point in Epping is the summit of Bald Hill, at an elevation of 545 feet (166 m).

The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 2,541 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
