Adair Summary

Adair is a small town located in Mayes County, Oklahoma. It is situated in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, about 20 miles east of Tulsa. The town was founded in 1891 and named after the Adair family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The population of Adair was 1,092 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Adair is located at 36°25'25" North, 95°17'17" West (36.423, -95.288). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

Economy

Adair is a small rural town with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops. The town also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,092 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in Adair. The population density was 1,541.7 people per square mile (595.3/km2). There were 486 housing units at an average density of 690.3 per square mile (266.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.9% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 3.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
