North Richland Hills Summary
Richland Hills is a city located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. The city is located in the northeastern corner of Tarrant County, and is bordered by the cities of Hurst, Bedford, North Richland Hills, and Watauga. The city had a population of 7,741 at the 2010 census.
History
Richland Hills was founded in the late 1800s by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Richland. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and raise their families. The area was originally known as Richland Station, and was later changed to Richland Hills. The city was officially incorporated in 1953.
Geography
Richland Hills is located at 32°51'25" North, 97°14'45" West (32.856944, -97.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Richland Hills is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several industrial parks, which provide employment opportunities for local residents.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 7,741 people, 3,072 households, and 2,092 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,845.3 people per square mile (715.2/km2). There were 3,232 housing units at an average density of 767.2 per square mile (296.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 83.45% White, 8.45% African American, 0.45% Native American, 1.45% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 4.45% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.45% of the population.
There were 3,072 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
