Evansville Summary
Evansville is a city located in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,945 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rock County. The city is located on the banks of the Koshkonong Creek, a tributary of the Rock River.
History
The area that is now Evansville was first settled in 1837 by William and Mary Evans. The city was named after them. The city was incorporated in 1856.
In the late 19th century, Evansville was a major center for the production of cheese. The city was also home to a number of other industries, including a brickyard, a flour mill, and a furniture factory.
Geography
Evansville is located at 42°47'17" North, 89°20'17" West (42.7881, -89.3379). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.

There were 2,717 housing units at an average density of 645.3 per square mile (249.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.7% of the population.
There were 2,521 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $51,944. Males had a median income of $37,944 versus $25,944 for females.
