West Allis, Wisconsin is a city located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. It is a suburb of Milwaukee and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 60,411.
History
West Allis was first settled in 1835 by German and Irish immigrants. The city was originally known as Honey Creek and was later renamed West Allis in 1887 after Edward P. Allis, a prominent Milwaukee industrialist. The city was incorporated in 1889 and was the first city in Wisconsin to be incorporated as a village.
In the early 20th century, West Allis was a major industrial center, with factories producing a variety of products, including automobiles, farm equipment, and furniture. The city was also home to the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, which was one of the largest employers in the area.
Geography
West Allis is located at 43°01'N 88°01'W (43.01, -88.01). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.7 square miles (22.5 km2), of which 8.6 square miles (22.3 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.
The city is located in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is bordered by the cities of Wauwatosa, Greenfield, and West Milwaukee. The city is also located near the Menomonee River and the Root River.

There were 25,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
