History
The area that is now Wiley Ford was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The town was originally known as “Wiley’s Ford”, named after the first settler, John Wiley. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, the town was a major hub for the coal and timber industries. The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) ran through the town, and the B&O Railroad also had a station in Wiley Ford. The town was also home to several coal mines, including the Wiley Ford Mine, which operated from the late 1800s until the mid-1900s.
Geography
Wiley Ford is located at 39°25'17" North, 79°2'17" West (39.4214, -79.0381). It is situated along the Potomac River, near the Maryland border. The town is located in the Appalachian Mountains, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 441.2 people per square mile (170.2/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 195.3 per square mile (75.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
