@ReneeWrites Yes, I noticed that they were slightly different, but I thought that the difference itself was so little (the cameraman must have changed position only by some inches) to be avoidable. @ReneeWrites While I was uploading the new one, I have discovered that the exactly same photos had already been uploaded, although at lower res and presenting an "alternate" slithly crop (i.e.: a little narrower in width, but a little taller in height).
- Here it is: File:Queen Victoria and family at Coburg.jpg.
The one I found is the best by quality.
Shall I overwrite this one instead?
It has already all the metadata and the mapped names (and there are many of them, since it is a group photo of royal people) and would be annoying to have to insert them back on another perfectly same image.
- My idea in general was to have on Commons this "scene" at the best resolution possible and then put it on all the wikipedia pages were it suited well and foremost promote it as a FP (or at least as a Quality one). LucaLindholm (talk) 18:21, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would still prefer you upload it as a new file instead. The crop is quite different like you said, and while it's a significant upgrade from the former it's not a direct one. @ReneeWrites, We have a little problem that I couldn't imagine it would happen. Here on the uploaded image (that I was talking about) I copied all the "imagenotes" from the original photo (hoping to be able to fix them a little bit since mine image is of higher res.), but they don't appear!
If I try to create a new one, it appears correctly as the no. 33 (the other 32 are the ones imported), but the others not.
How can I solve it rapidly without having to manually recreate them from scrap?

@LucaLindholm: The image notes use the coordinates of the original image, so they won't show up if the dimensions are different (1,396 × 1,800 vs. 3,721 × 3,945). Below the image is a button that reads "Add a note" that lets you add notes manually by dragging a rectangle over the image. It does mean adding them one by one but it's probably the easiest and most reliable way to do it. ReneeWrites (talk) 23:37, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @LucaLindholm: the main rule, if you're not sure about what to do, is asking for help before :) not that one's actions are irreversible, but it takes time to understand what's happened and possibly revert them. In the abovementioned case, Imagenote is based on the relative pixel coordinates (0,0 being the top left of the photo). You should identify the area of each face with a graphic editor like photoshop or gimp. -- Blackcat 11:33, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Blackcat @ReneeWrites Don't worry everyone, I just fixed everything, by recreating these areas manually and then copy-pasting all the previous wikicode. Pretty straightforward. ;)
    Now you can enjoy the final result (and, if you think it is a good img, vote on the relative FP nomination and express an opinion).

It's a flag that's in the public domain (source: https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/lgbtq-flags.htm https://www.cosmopolitan.com/sex-love/a31743384/lgbtq-pride-flags-guide/ ). My understanding is that a higher resolution version of a public domain flag would still be public domain?
