Conquering Drugs for the Great Commission!

A LIFE OF VIOLENCE

Growing up, Larry’s life was brutal, abusive, and violent. He and his siblings lived in constant fear of their father’s rage. Although his father was nice to the world, he was a monster at home. At times, his dad would hold him up against the wall by his throat and punch him in the stomach. Or, when his food was knocked to the floor, his dad made Larry crawl on his hands and knees and eat his food under the table with no utensils.  “Although the physical abuse I experienced while growing up was unimaginable, the emotional abuse was worse,” recalls Larry. Another time, Larry remembers overhearing his father on the phone trying to give him away to an orphanage. His dad never said I love you or even hugged him. As a result, Larry developed a deep-seated hatred for his dad and became involved in street violence and smoking marijuana.

After high school, he went to college on a scholarship and played football. It was there he began to experiment with heavier drugs including acid and LSD.  Then, he began to sell drugs because the money was good. As his business grew, his drug use morphed into a full-blown addiction. After graduation, some of his drug friends encouraged him to move to Columbia and work with the drug cartel. At twenty-three years old, he began smuggling dope into the United States and made millions living on a ranch on top of the Andes Mountains.

Larry began using cocaine by mainlining (injecting) up to $8,000 worth of cocaine every day. During this time, he had an internal tug to find out who God was.  “The more cocaine I used as an escape, the more I became aware of the tug,” shares Larry. After months of using drugs in Columbia, Larry went from 215 strapping pounds to 145 pounds because of the drug use.

PATH TO FREEDOM

One day, after doing drugs all day, he decided to do more.  Larry doubled the amount and injected it into his vein. His heart nearly exploded out of his chest, and he knew he was dying. He cried out, “God, don’t let me die until I find out what happiness is!”  God answered his prayer and spared his life. Sometime later, bandits broke into Larry’s house and took all his money then skipped the country.  Larry went from having everything to having absolutely nothing.  In a motel room, Larry admitted to God he was a drug addict although he was not quite sure who or what God was.
He returned to the States, still selling drugs, and settled in Flagstaff, Arizona. There Larry met a Christian who invited him to church to see the movie The Gospel Road.

After the movie, Larry found himself kneeling at the altar, weeping.  He said, “God, if you are real, then be real to me.” Instantly, he felt as though a million pounds lifted off his shoulders. A few days later, although Larry was still selling drugs, he went back to church with his friends and was baptized in the Holy Spirit. The speaker prophesied that Larry would preach around the world, become a pastor, and write books. After that night, he stopped doing drugs without any withdrawal symptoms or cravings and decided to serve God for the rest of his life and tell people what Jesus had done for him.

A NEW LIFE

Almost immediately, Larry became involved with the jail ministry at the church. Even though he knew very little about the Bible, he shared his testimony and every inmate in the room gave their life to the Lord.

A short time later, he met Tiz (1976), and they were married a year later. In 1978, Larry and Tiz went into full time ministry. They were both passionate about the Lord, but Larry still struggled with anger. As he grew stronger in the Word and learned about breaking curses of rage and violence that held him, he was finally set free.
He and Tiz have pioneered 7 different churches in America and Australia as well as starting Larry Huch Ministries, their worldwide ministry. Today he is the pastor of New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas, a multi-ethnic fellowship. In addition to their local church, their services are streamed live to multitudes of people all around the world always using the same theme that invites the disadvantaged and hurting – loving them where they are and helping them see how God can transform lives just as He did for Larry.

BLESSING ISRAEL

When God put on Larry’s heart to leave their thriving church in Portland, Oregon and start another church he and Tiz were obedient. In 2004, they started New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas. Within months the building was nearly filled.
On a trip to Israel, Larry had an experience that would change his life. While visiting the ancient synagogue where Jesus ministered, he heard the Lord say, “I’m going to teach you to reread the Bible through the eyes of a Jewish Moses, Jewish Abraham, a Jewish Jesus and a Jewish Paul.” He and Tiz reread the Bible connecting their Christian teachings with their Judeo-Christian roots and fell in love with Israel.
When they moved to Texas, Larry became a regular on Daystar which allowed him to promote the importance of teaching the world about loving and blessing Israel. Currently, their program, New Beginnings with Larry and Tiz, airs on Daystar.

*Larry’s dad passed away in 2011. A year prior to his death he gave his heart to the Lord. When he was in the hospital in a coma Larry and other family members were present. Despite all the wounds from the past, Larry no longer had hate in his heart for his dad. Instead, he felt compassion for him and realized what a broken man he was.

**Tiz is currently undergoing treatments for cancer. They are continuing to believe God for her complete and total healing.

Abandoned! He Needed a Hero

Seven-year-old Jianguo wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.

“Firefighters are heroes,” he explains.  “They save lives and help people.”

Jianguo is an orphan who, for a long time, wanted someone to rescue him.  He was born with only one atrium in his heart.  His arteries were out of place and he struggled to breathe, so his parents abandoned him.  He’s lived at an orphanage most of his life, where a woman he calls “Auntie” looks out for him.

She cries, “Watching him broke my heart.  He couldn’t exercise.  If you put your hand on his chest, it felt like someone was beating a drum.  And because he lacked oxygen, his lips turned purple.  So did his fingers and toes.”

Since he was sick a lot, he stayed away from the other children.

“I was very lonely.  My heart disease made me feel bad.  And I missed my mom and dad,” he shares.  “One day, I had a really high fever and felt very cold.  Everyone was wearing short sleeves, and I was still shivering under the blanket. : I was afraid I’d die.”

He ended up at the hospital.

“The doctor said his life was in danger,” reports his Auntie from the orphanage.  “I told him, ‘You need to be strong.  You can endure the pain.’”

Jianguo shares, “My teacher said that surgery was the only way for me to get better.”

“Because of his continuous fever, his inflammation was  severe,” his teacher says.  “His heart disease could lead to heart failure, organ failure and sudden death.”

His teacher is a Christian and had been sharing God’s love with Jiangou for years.

“I told him stories about several characters from the Bible. He liked listening to them,” she explains.

Jianguo exclaims, “I believed that God loves me and that He would heal me.”

His teacher adds, “I prayed for Jianguou and asked that God would personally provide a way for him to get surgery.  Then the hospital told us about Operation Blessing, and I said, ‘Great… this must be from God.’”

Soon, you helped make surgery possible for Jianguo.

“I am completely healed and don’t have pain anymore,” declares Jianguo.

His Auntie says, “You have given Jianguo a new life.  He has a bright future  now.”

“He’s happy every day.  He can exercise, eat, and play with the other children,” shares his teacher.

He’s also learning more about God through CBN’s Superbook.

“I like Joy and Gizmo, and how Superbook takes them on adventures,” Jianguo proclaims.  “I tell everyone the story of how Jesus died for us and saved us, how the Heavenly Father heals, and how Jesus is my hero, and Operation Blessing is my hero, too.”

Operation Blessing Helps Couple Find Warmth in Rebuilt Home

When hurricane Helene hit North Carolina, hundreds of thousands were displaced due to flooding and storm damage. Lee and Shirley groom were forced to move into an old mobile home left to lee 6 years ago by his mother.

“Our home was located across the road from this place. And we stood on the porch and watched it wash away.  Our vehicles were sitting in the yard, up here, and they got washed away.” Lee recalled.

Turns out, Lee had never been able to afford to winterize or fix his mom’s place—and that meant living there in winter has been a challenge.

"We'll need the insulation put under the house and some flooring on the floor… Oh, it's real important. Ain’t got insulation, the water will freeze, and you're in trouble then.”

Thanks to you, Operation Blessing arrived to help the grooms prepare their home for winter...

"We pulled the insulation in and put it up here in between the joist of the home. And, once the insulation is up there, should keep the house nice and warm for the winter.” Gabe, an Operation Blessing team member noted.

The team worked hard installing new fiberglass insulation which is both durable and water resistant. Then we installed new flooring inside their home.

“Things like your floor and your installation are really important, especially whenever it comes to wintertime. The warmer the floors, the warmer their feet, and we got it all done.” Another interjected.

Emotionally, Lee iterates “It’s a relief that the house will stay warmer. It's great, there's a lot of good people in this world, I didn't think there's that many left. But there are.”

And they said they’re grateful that Operation Blessing arrived right on time.

“It gave me peace. Both of us. Made me stronger. I just thank everybody. The Good Lord sent everybody here, right to us.”
