He may be only six months old, but he is already a hit among Harry Potter fans.

Meet Teddy, the Oriental Shorthair who bears a striking resemblance to Dobby the house elf.

With his green, almond-shaped eyes, slender body and enormous ears, the kitten shares many features with the elf, who is initially owned by the Malfoy family in J.K. Rowling's fantasy series.

But in reality, Teddy lives with his owner Christine Gonzalez in Ocean City, New Jersey.

Ms Gonzalez, 47, said she recently posted a photo of her beloved kitten on Reddit - and was stunned to find it received almost 900,000 hits, with many users deeming Teddy cuddly and cute.

She said: 'He is much different from most cats due to the extreme size of his ears. His new owner got him out of sheer luck since his features were deemed "too extreme" for the cat show world.

'It was thought best to make sure he was placed in a home to become a loving pet to someone.'

And Teddy is in good company - because Ms Gonzalez owns another internet favorite: Stache Cat.

Stache, who is nearly two years old and also an Oriental Shorthair, hit the headlines last year due to his black moustache-like upper lip marking - which has seen him compared to an array of stars.

These include Adrien Brody, Tom Selleck, Jim Carey, Will Ferrell, and even Snoop Dogg.

Oriental Shorthairs, which have Thai genetic roots, are closely related to Siamese cats.

They typically have almond-shaped eyes, triangular-shaped heads and large ears.

Personality-wise, the felines are usually playful, sociable and intelligent.

They are often featured in championships, and are popular among cat breeders.

Dobby the elf, whose massive ears point downward unlike Teddy's, is eventually freed from the control of his master, Lucius Malfoy, after Harry Potter tricks the older wizard into setting him free.

The elf forms a close bond with Harry over the series.
