Overview

The Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) provides eligible employees, retirees, and eligible family members the option to obtain supplemental dental and vision benefits. The FEDVIP program is an enrollee-pay-all basis, which means there is no government contribution towards premiums.

FEDVIP Enrollments

Employees may elect dental and/or vision coverage during the first 60 days of becoming eligible. Employees may also enroll within 60 days of experiencing a qualifying life event (QLE) or during Open Season. To view QLEs, refer to the BENEFEDS life events page.

Employees do not have to be enrolled for FEHB to elect dental or vision coverage.

FEDVIP plans provide international coverage and coverage automatically continues each year unless canceled by the employee.

NIH OHR does not process dental or vision enrollments. You must enroll or change dental or vision coverage on BENEFEDS website in a two-step process. It is a secure website sponsored by OPM. First, you will create a BENEFEDS account and then you can enroll in a plan.

Employees who are transferring to NIH from an agency outside of the Department of Health and Human Services should refer to the Transfer Employee Benefits Information page for information on how to properly get your dental and/or vision benefits transferred. You must take action to ensure your coverage(s) transfer.
