Damn good man! Great work!
Incredible, I'm only 10-13 hours in on my Elven Lothlorian playthrough & I'm just completely awe struken most times whilst enjoying this mod.
The modding team for this clearly really adored Tolkiens work.
This... man, this was cool, and allowed me to experience several things gameplay-wise in the world of Half-Life 2 as someone that grew up on various source/GMOD machinimas. Of note, as someone that loved Civil Protection long before playing HL2 and seeing the episode that had a source-era Houndeye and was subsequently very disappointed to learn that the only returning HL1 enemies are the headcrabs and barnacles, it was very fufilling seeing the properly and competently implemented into an ambitious HL2 mod like this. I'll readily admit that the likes of Black Mesa and Entropy: Zero 2 long since scratched my itch to fight HL1 enemies on the source engine -EZ2 especially for fighting them long after the Black Mesa incident and the Combine establishing their reign- but they along with various other cut elements from HL2 are just masterfully implimented here. The same sentiment applies for the boss fights against the Crab Synths. For how prominent a threat the Combine are in HL2 and how they supplant a lot of the HL1 enemies, it was just as disappointing having such a narrow roster of synths/combine forces to actually fight. As such, getting to properly engage, battle and kill these thigns is BEYOND fufilling. Same things applies to a much lesser extent about killing Stalkers at a few select points, most notably when they're manning combine equipment. Finally, I very much enjoyed seeing so much Xen flora overrun the area outside the city. It made for a very cool experience to travel through.
Also, all the various police chatter as you fight your way out of the city was a delight to listen too, especially between the police Consul and that Overwatch/ex-HECU guy.
On that note, I really have to say that this mod simultaneously does a great job nailing the vibe of feeling like a genuine, alternate universe version of Half-Life 2 Valve could've made if they stuck to certain ideas and made them work while ALSO feeling like a satisfying follow-up to BLACK MESA to play. The thing that particularly had me thinking this was the vengeful HECU guy yelling a 'you got nothing! NOTHING!' At you. That instantly made me think of the Hgrunt chatter in Black Mesa, though IDK if that was intentional. I digress though, the bottom line is that even at this active stage in development, the mod was very satisfying to play through and felt incredibly fluid and satisfying playing this fresh off either HL1 or Black Mesa, and this latest update that takes you up to Eli's lab was incredibly beefy, satisfying, and has me eager to see what you guys are going to dish out next with this mod. I sincerely hope you all manage to develop this alternative version of HL2 to completion. (Also, I LOVE the glitchy HEV suit dialogue. Gives it a LOT of character.)
kinda overrated
for now, the hardest mod i have ever played yet, a really long, complete and innovative mod, featuring it's own continuation to half-life even before half-life 2 released.
new hud, new mechanics, a driveable tank, new innovative weapons like using a Gargantua arm or a rocket launcher with multiple ammonitions, and really frustrating enemies, and sadly, the first 75% of the game, you only fight H.E.C.U. and mechanize units.
It's map are ok for original half-life standards, a bit too blocky, but well decorated, some maps are really clever and impressive, and other have a nice idea in them or have a lot of nice details, like the first battle against a tank, every cover the player have can be partially blown up by the tank or the room full of inflammable gas.
An ok story, where Freeman saves the world again stopping the xen aliens from invading again and stopping the H.E.C.U. from stopping us.
Surprisingly, the 25th anniversary, doesn't really break anything important.
There are problems, balance is off the chart, the hardest mod I ever played in hard difficulty, the new enemies are even harder than vanilla enemies.
The music have a problem, about being too loud and no volume setting manage it.
This mod goes too far from the roots of the game, and the story feels fan-ficted but it's a great mod to learn as a modder, and as a player, to get surprised by things that not even valve tried with this engine or even with Source.
Finally, nothing more than this was missing for a stalker replay marathon!
Pretty good
You spoiled me. Now i can't play without kicking and guts.
I really enjoyed this. It feels like Half-Life but with fresh code of paint.
I really like this mod, it feels like the game was always supposed to be exactly like this. Game story is around 2012. and in that time the exclusion zone already had many trees like in this mode.
literal dumpster fire of a "mod" that pretends to be a successor of smod but instead became a ******* virus Trojan horse that banned people with their steam id's just because "they talked sh1t about you" you had so much potential, and yet you guys just turned it into a piece of dogshit. And to finish this review off, the sun is leaking.
just good
You've done a great deal... but not in a small time :)
Honestly it's even better than Raising The Bar. Storytelling, the map design is fantastic!
But still I faced some bugs. The most critical is - when you exiting the lab in the garbage Eli just standing in the tunnel after giving all weapons back. The rest of the mod I watched on YouTube :)
Wish you best of luck and sooner release of v. 1.0!!!
the sun is leaking
Great sp maps, i always play it !!! :D
Comparable to Thrawns Revenge for SW:EAT! Improves the game in every aspect!
I prefer this over the standard AIX
I enjoyed playing it with friends at friday night.
This mod is simply.... superb, it's magnificent, it has the right amount of settlements, including rebel ones, that's one of the highest points.
Second, the time where this mods takes place is simply just right
Third, it's awesome the choices and historical events that actually affect the game.
And last, the units and how they look is fantastic.
Definietly, it is WAY BETTER than Crusades DLC, It is DLC of a DLC, Congratulations to the mod Team, my favorite mod all time for now!
(BTW, thanks for naming it roman empire and not "Byzantium or Byzantime empire, such a little detail that has a big impact in some of us, Gratias Tibi!)
pretty good
