The following review is crap. I cannot be bothered to rewrite it. Please do better and I will delete it happily.
And again!
You people really worry me. 11 out of the however many reviews i've done so far were only done because
1. no-one reviewed it
2. it was horrible and
3. 1 was justified by 2.
For any of the rest Thats fine but This Aint Right!Anything to do with Komugi is worthy of great praise and prostration!
Because!
There is nothing less than a genius behind the animating of this series. The graphics are filled with that malty quality that hooks you in from the start, and hypnotizes you will the rest of the composition beats you into a fluffy pulp of enjoyment. Character designs, on the Fan-art-o-meter are somewhere in the upper 5k, and this is for a very good reason. Everyone is made special, no matter how little impact they have on the story.
Sound for this incarnation is a bit of a let down sadly. The opening and ending comes in only one variety, and while they have great ammounts of endorphin inducing qualities, compared to the original they are just undercooked.
Voices on the other hand make the characters even more "real". Admittedly, the lack of additional characters (and the phasing out of one) means this is not too much of resounding an accomplishment, they still feel real.
I have to pick holes somewhere otherwise i'll come across as a biased fanboy scumbag (which I am) and that will prevent you from taking this series seriously. Which may be a good thing. Seriousness is not what this is about, but it still manages it if you don't have too high expectations. Since it is only two episodes, they go and make two self contained stories, which have nothing to do with each other, and exist for entertainment value only, not to communicate anything.
An the entertainment is there alright. Komugi alone acounts for two hundred gallons of it, while the rest explode appropriately.
The cast are incomparable! With the blend of semi-original characters/istics taken together, and not a small ammount of inspired writing, victory is apparent from the offset. Yes, its Colossal Breasts On Under Aged Or Otherwise Girls, but its there for a reason. And that reason is because it makes sense for them to be like that.
That said however, this will not be prompting wards across the world being suddenly surged with nosebleed patients. It is used in moderation for the purpose of catering to a very wide area of preference.
When I wanted Komugi (in the most platonic way possible) I had to go on a fairly long journey to get good rips and subs etc (thanks go to No-Subs who were very friendly). this took easily three months of half-arsed searching which culminated in the attainment of norwegian/english subs on a good DVD rip. If it had been glued to a duck and fired from an antique howitzer I would still have gone after it.
I'd even go so far as to bestow the highest accolade any net-available animation can ever have, which is It Is Worth Buying The DVD.
And why? Because its animated chocolate. This is concentrated happiness for anyone who belongs to That Certain Demographic, and still manages to cater to a good cross section of normal people.
So again, get it RIGHT NOW.
RIGHT NOW!
