Two dead serious romance dramas about a boy meeting a frail and inaccessible girl with limited future, plus two grown-ups as important catalytic side roles.
Despite the different settings (SciFi war vs. hospital), both stories have a lot more in common than just being compact 6-episode OVAs from almost the same release year.

In the winter when he was in the second grade of the high school, the 17-year-old Yuuichi was hospitalized for hepatitis. Soon, he became well enough to be scolded by strict nurse Akiko for leaving his hospital room without permission.
One day, he happens to notice Rika, a girl his age, in the east wing of the building, where patients with serious illnesses are stationed. Akiko later asks Yuuichi to befriend the lonely Rika. He is fascinated by Rika's beauty, even though she seems to be a very selfish girl. And although she leads him by the nose, he becomes attracted to her more and more. However, when Rika tells him about her illness, he understands why she has acted so selfishly — she might not live for very much longer.

The rating really isn't what I expected to see. Definately not a 8/10. It is a so-so romance genre. The pace is too slow and the plot not intricate enough. Boy meets girl - Love at first site? I can hardly understand whether the Doctor is the villain; the allusion of the books and how unrealistic it is for a patient to come and go inside a hospital! And to top it off - you get a random scene with the protagonist with a whore! Good way to make the audience more confused. If you seriously have nothing to watch - go for it.

A great story of a young and rather frail love that grew stronger from episode to episode. In my book, it would've been a must see if:
1. there weren't for that unnecessary scene in the 5th episode &
2. if it were a longer series

Nice series. Leaves you a bittersweet feeling while watching it. It could have as well been a 12-episodes long one, and gone deeper in the story and characters.

This is a really sweet and tender anime. I enjoyed it a lot, and i would watch it again, though the ending i think could have been a bit better.

The first time i watched this anime, i felt overwhelmed. Life was heading toward a dead end and it was comforting to see a situation similar to one i had experienced just recently.
So I thought i would re-watch with different feelings and then it was more like a typical soap-opera; how sad Japanese entertainment industry often need to create 'obstacles' as incurable illness or even death to be overcome by love (sign of running out of ideas??). That is almost 'sick' when it goes on and on but oh well, forget about what i said and simply enjoy this cute OVA with two innocent and sympathetic protagonists.

Short, yet very touching story told almost 'par exelence'. Characters seems incomplete but that is just 'first' feeling, in fact they are mysteriously deep. Perfectly described evolution of 'first love' and relationship between teenage boy and girl. Don't miss this piece only because it's 'romance' (it isn't typical tragical romance) or because it's short. Definitively worth watching.

This is a nice short romance anime about how a boy and a girl go through obstacles to stay with each other. This anime is a little different than other romance animes because this involves life threatening condition (weak heart), so the couple have more obstacles to hurdle to stay together. This is a nice watch for only 6 episodes.
