生まれてから高校までアメリカで過ごし、それ以降は日本で住み就職もしている。今20代前半。

「子どもたちの自己肯定感を上げるため、わたしのクラスでは毎朝affirmationを言います。I am loved, I am brave, I am smart, I am kind, I am a problem solverと言い合って、ポジティブな気持ちで1日過ごせるようにします。これを毎日繰り返すことでポジティブな自分になることが狙いです。」
これを見て、自分が今まで生きてきて感じたことを色々と思い出したので少し書く。
便宜上、「アメリカ」「日本」と大きな主語を使うが、もちろん家庭や土地によって差はあると思う。
アメリカでは↑の動画のように、「あなたは素晴らしい存在である」と言われ育つことが多い。
「あなたは賢い」「あなたは強い」「あなたは愛されるべき存在」と。
日本では謙遜という概念や「能ある鷹は爪を隠す」という言葉があるように、素晴らしい能力を持った人でも偉ぶらず控えめであることが求められることが多い。
そんな日本の文化を窮屈に思い、アメリカの文化を羨ましく思う人も多いだろう。
しかし、アメリカの「自己肯定感アゲアゲ」文化には致命的な欠点が存在する。
身も蓋もないことを書いてしまうが、いくら本人が「自分は素晴らしい存在だ」と思っていても、現実は違うことの方が多い。
「アメリカは個性を尊重する」とか言ってる人もいるが、誰だってバカより賢い人の方が好きだし、ブスより綺麗な人の方が好きなのだ。それはどこの国も変わらない。
そもそも、「誰もが素晴らしい」が声高に主張される社会＝そう言わなければいけない社会、ということである。
社会に出たら嫌でも自分のランクを思い知らされる。自分の上位互換がいくらでも転がっている。
自己肯定感のメッキが剥がれる瞬間が辛いなら、最初から身の丈にあった感覚を持ち生きたほうがマシではないか。
特に今、日本中国韓国の若者と同じように、多くのアメリカの若者には金も希望もない。
インフレや格差にあえぎ、親と同等の暮らしをすることをあきらめている人がほとんどだ。戦争や気候変動など世界的な問題も山積みだ。
こんな中で「自分は素晴らしい」「人生は素晴らしい」と言われても困るのである。もはや呪いでしかない。
「自分は素晴らしい」という言葉は呪いだ。なぜなら、むしろ自分のクソさに気づいたとき、そのクソさがものすごく大きく見える。
その人は「ブスの戦い方」を指南していた。美人はどうやたって生きていけるが、ブスは工夫しなければいけない。しかし、努力すればむしろブスは美人よりも大きな成果を上げることができると。
その話は「ルッキズムを植え付けるな」なんて批判されていたが、自分は感動した。
自分が美男美女ではないから生きづらいと言っている人に対して、「あなたは美しいよ。素晴らしい存在だよ。」と言うのは正しいのだろうか。
非美男美女としての生き方を提案するのが本当の優しさなのではないだろうか。
もちろん美醜だけでなく、頭が悪い、身体が弱い、など、それを素晴らしいよ・あなたの個性だよで終わらせるのではなく、弱者としての戦い方を徹底的に教え込むべきなのではないか。
そもそも、アメリカの自己肯定感は間違っている。「自分は素晴らしい」と思わせるのは自己肯定感をはぐくむことではなく
どんなスポンジケーキかということを考慮せずに、クリームをゴテゴテ塗ってごまかしているようにしか思えない。
「あなたは素晴らしい」と言われ育ったが、そうではないことに気づいてから人生計画を立て直すのに時間がかかった人はたくさんいると思う。
自分ももう大人になったし今は幸せなので、今まで受けた教育にだらだらと文句をつける気はないが、最初から人生がクソゲーだと教えられていたらもっと楽に生きられたと思う。
自己肯定感とは、どんなに自分や自分の人生がクソでもなんとか生きていける能力だと思う。
でも昨日食べたラーメンはおいしかった。信号ですれちがった犬がかわいかった。昨日より1mmは仕事ができるようになった。だからよかった。
日本の「自虐文化」は批判対象になることが多いが、実際無意識に救われてる人も多いのではないかと思う。
あと、これは書くか迷ったんだけど、アメリカの自己肯定感アゲアゲ文化は奴隷を育てるためではないかと思ったことがある。
日本の詰め込み個性ガン無視教育は批判されているし自分もどうかと思うけど、ほぼ全員に最低限の教育を施し、子供たちが次の道へ進みたいと思ったときへの土台作りはできると思う。
しかし、アメリカは頭のいい子への教育は天才的であると感じるけど、バカへの教育はあまりよくない。最低限の基準に達していないバカに「君は素晴らしい」「我々は強い」と言って、一部の天才の奴隷にしようとしているのではないかと思った事すらある。これは陰謀論とかではなく本当に。まあ奴隷育成に失敗して中身スカスカなのに態度がでかい人間を量産してるけど。
最近増田で話題になるゲームにハマるのは低学歴かどうかの話だが、自分の体感では学歴はあまり関係ないように思う。
自分はsmart卒、周りは公務員が多い環境だが国公立大卒、早慶その他有名私大卒、文系理系、高卒、性別問わずゲーム（スマブラ、マリカー、モンハン、バトロワ系FPSその他いろいろ）にハマっている人は結構いる、というか聞けば何かしらやっている。
マッチングアプリを見ても何かしらのゲームをやっている人は少なくない。
何千何万という統計データがあるわけではないのでn=1に毛が生えたようなものではあるが、自分の周りを見る限りではゲームは低学歴がやるものという話は当てはまらない。
ゲームにはまるかどうかの因子としては本人の知的レベル云々ではなく、年代や属しているコミュニティや各々プライベートの時間をゲームに割けるかどうかではないだろうか。
学生なら進学校（自称進学校を含む）に通っていたら本人の趣味趣向はさておき必然的に勉学を優先せざるを得なくなる。
社会人になったらなったで上司や同僚との付き合い、恋愛、婚活で優先度は上げにくい。
結婚した後も子育てなんてしていたらゲームどころかスポーツやアウトドアといった配偶者の理解を得やすい他の趣味をする時間すらも取れないだろう。
自分を取り巻く環境は定時上がりが当たり前で自分の時間を作りやすく、趣味の２つや３つは並行的にできるためゲームをしている人が多いのはそのせいではないかなと思ったりもしている。
そもそも現実の社会人のうち高学歴と言えるのは数％しかいないわけで、無作為抽出でテレビゲームやっていますか？と質問を社会人にぶつけたらいわゆる低学歴と呼ばれる人がボリューム層になるのは当たり前になる。
仮に無作為抽出した結果、社会人の学歴の分布とゲームをやっている社会人の層の学歴の分布が一致しなかったとしても、学歴と余暇の時間の相関や生活実態、コミュニティの所属状況などその辺りのデータも含めて検討して初めて証明できる話だと思う。
犯罪行為でもない趣味を捕まえて高尚だ下劣だとやるのは辟易しているので○○という趣味をするのは低学歴という話は無くなってほしい。
