A Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is a thorough and detailed presentation of a government entity's financial condition. It reports on the government's activities and balances for each fiscal year. CAFR reports are produced at the state and local government level, both for entire entities such as the state or individualized in cases of pension fund CAFR reports. In a number of states it is prepared by the auditor, but the task may also fall to the comptroller or other office.
