The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is a national political committee and subsidiary of the Democratic Party which supports campaigns of Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate.[1] According to the group's website, the DSCC "is the only committee solely dedicated to electing a Democratic Senate."[1]

As of November 2024, the DSCC chairman was Gary Peters (D-Mich.).[2]

Background

The DSCC took on its modern form as a comprehensive national campaign committee following the U.S. Supreme Court's 1976 ruling in Buckley v. Valeo.[3] Its role in elections includes organizing, recruiting candidates, and allocating funds to battleground races.[1]

As of December 2024, the group had the following mission statement:

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is the only committee solely dedicated to electing a Democratic Senate. From organizing to fundraising to candidate recruitment, the DSCC works around-the-clock to re-elect Democratic senators and send new leaders to Washington who will move our country forward.[1][4]

About party committees

See also: Party committee fundraising, 2023-2024

Both Democrats and Republicans have three major party committees. The national committee's purpose involves oversight of the presidential nominating process as well as supporting party candidates with research, polling and funding in races across the country. Each party also has two Hill committees, one each for the House and Senate, which are dedicated to helping elect candidates from their party to Congress and helping incumbents win re-election.

These six committees were each among the top 15 spenders in the 2022 congressional elections with a combined $1.8 billion in spending. During the 2024 election cycle, the six committees associated with the Democratic and Republican Parties reported raising a combined $2.3 billion as of November 25, 2024.
