Expand all | Collapse all

I am well-schooled in the Constitution, U.S. history, and contemporary issues. My experience includes activity as a union representative, community activist, and youth worker. I have been an activist for more than 50 years, beginning with opposition to the Vietnam war, and continuing through work as a community organizer, on anti-poverty programs, and as a union leader. I was President of CWA Local 4501 with lead roles as an organizer, spokesperson, strike leader, and chief negotiator. I have studied at OSU Law School on the subjects of elections, legislation, environment, constitution, banking, arbitration, and international human rights.

  • I oppose stereotyping, cults, factions, sexism, racism, and other forms of discrimination.
  • Coal is the past. Wind, solar, and batteries are the future. That's where the jobs are.
  • The Republican Party has been taken over by extremists who have abandoned core American values.

Promoting youth futures by welcoming all youth 10-18 in programs to foster respectful regular dialogue with older students, workers, and retirees through zoom or in person.

Rebuilding U.S. industry using green energy, healthy production, public/private partnerships, and worker participation.

Campaign website

Josephson's campaign website stated the following:

Democracy, Reproductive Freedom, and the Future

  • American Democracy. Presidents are not above the law. Gerrymandering distorts the will of the voters. A mob attack on the United States Capitol is not democracy.
  • Reproductive Freedom. Roe v. Wade has been overturned, resulting in misery and suffering. Women’s rights, contraception, marriage, privacy, and personal liberty are all threatened.
  • Our Environment. Green agriculture and industry are key to our future prosperity. That’s where the jobs are.
  • A Future for our Youth. Youth deserve to be wanted, educated, mentored, employed, and told the truth.

Where does Gary stand?

  • Women’s rights: I support reproductive rights. I support women's equality in all aspects of work and life.
  • Climate, Environment, Prosperity: Coal's time has passed. Sustainable energy and sustainable agriculture are the future. That’s where the good jobs are. Energy will be cheap. The garden will be green.
  • Gerrymandering: The boundaries of legislative districts should be drawn logically and without partisan bias. My district fails the test. Gerrymandering intensifies partisan politics, and distorts the voice of the people. Let’s fix it.
  • Policing: I have compassion for today's police officers. Any civilian might be legally carrying a high-powered weapon. The public expects a culture of serve-and-protect from the top down, and demands well-trained leaders and officers.
  • Guns: The second amendment says "well-regulated militia." That's clear enough. Self defense is a natural right, but there is no individual right to unlimited firepower.
  • Voting rights: The right to vote is sacred. All eligible citizens are entitled to reliable, convenient, and secure access to voting. We must eliminate obstacles that reduce participation.
  • Foreign policy: Let us seek warm relationships with the people of the world. Our foreign policy should respect human rights, promote environmental stewardship, and encourage economic relationships that work for all.
  • National defense: I support a strong national defense based on future needs, good science, smart engineering, and careful accounting.
  • Youth: Youth are our hope and future. Today they are often full of despair and distraction. Youth deserve to be wanted, educated, employed, and have a say in the future of our democracy and our planet.

Together we can!
1. Zero out student debt with community service.
2. Mentor every youth.
3. Rebuild U.S. industry with public-private partnerships for green jobs.
4. Universal health care.
5. Safe neighborhoods.
6. Healthy democracy.

Let's restore our garden, Ohio!

  • Restore our jobs
  • Restore education
  • Restore democracy[2]
