But from the Lord's point of view woman is not independent of man nor man of woman. For just as woman originated from man, so man is born of woman, and both, with everything else, originated from God.

Therefore, a man must leave his father and mother, and he and his wife must become one,' so they are no longer two but one.

For the unbelieving husband is consecrated by union with his wife and the unbelieving wife by union with her Christian husband, for otherwise your children would be unblessed, but in this way they are consecrated.

For when people rise from the dead, men do not marry and women are not married, but continue to live together as the angels in heaven do.

Jesus said to them, "The people of this world marry and are married, but those who are considered worthy to attain that other world and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are married.

I mean this, brothers. The time has been cut short. For the future, men who have wives should live as though they had none, and those that mourn as though they did not mourn, and those who are glad as though they were not glad, and those who buy as though they did not own a thing, and those who are enjoying the world as though they were not entirely absorbed in it. For the outward order of this world is passing away.

Or, are you not aware that a man who has to do with a prostitute makes his body one with hers? For God says, "The two shall be physically one."

The husband must always give his wife what is due her, and the wife too must do so for her husband. The wife does not have the right to do as she pleases with her own body; the husband has his right to it. In the same way the husband does not have the right to do as he pleases with his own body; the wife has her right to it. You husbands and wives must stop refusing each other what is due, unless you agree to do so just for awhile, so as to have plenty of time for prayer, and then to be together again, so as to keep Satan from tempting you because of your lack of self-control.

This is the way married men ought to love their wives, as they do their own bodies. The married man who loves his wife is really loving himself, for no one ever hates his own physical person, but he feeds and fosters it, just as Christ does the church;

You married women must continue to live in subordination to your husbands, as you do to the Lord, for a husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the Head of the church, His body, and Saviour of it. Just as the church is subject to Christ, so the married women in everything must be subject to their husbands.

so as to train the younger women to be affectionate wives and mothers, to be serious, pure, home keepers, kind, and subordinate to their husbands, so as not to cause God's message to suffer reproach.

You married women, in the same way, must be submissive to your husbands, so that, if any of them do not believe the message, they may be won over without a word through the living of the wives, when they see how chaste and respectful you are. Your adornments must be not of an external nature, with braids of hair or ornaments of gold, or changes of dress,read more.
but they must be of an internal nature, the character concealed in the heart, in the imperishable quality of a quiet and gentle spirit, which is of great value in the sight of God. For this is the way the pious women of olden times, who set their hope on God, used to adorn themselves. They were submissive to their husbands, as Sarah, for example, obeyed Abraham and called him master. You have become true daughters of hers, if you practice doing right and cease from every fear.

However, I should like for everyone to be just as I am myself, yet each of us has his own special gift from God, one for one way, another for another. To unmarried people and to widows I would say this: It would be a fine thing for them to remain single, as I am.

The disciples said to Him, "If that is a man's relation to his wife, there is no advantage in getting married." He said to them, "It is not every man who has the capacity to carry out this saying, but it is for those to whom the capacity has been given. For some are born incapable of marriage, and some have been made so by men, and some have made themselves so for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him accept it who can."

Now if a father thinks that he is not doing the proper thing regarding his single daughter, if she is past the bloom of her youth, and she ought to do so, let him do what she desires; he commits no sin. Let the daughter and her suitor marry. But the father who stands firm in his purpose, without having any necessity for doing so, and he has made the decision in his own heart to keep her single, will do what is right. And so the man who gives his daughter in marriage does what is right, and yet the man who does not do so does even better.

Keep the young widows off this roll, for when they get to indulging their lower nature in opposition to Christ, they want to marry, and so deserve censure for breaking their previous pledge. Besides, as they get the habit of gadding about from house to house, they learn to be idle, and not only idle but gossips and busybodies, talking of things they ought not to mention.read more.
So I would have the younger women marry, have children, and keep house, so as not to give our opponents any occasion for slander.
