I therefore declare to you at this present time, that I am not responsible for the ruin of any: for I have acquainted you with the whole dispensation of God without reserve.

But after John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, spreading the good news of the kingdom of the Messiah. "the time, said he, is accomplish'd, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

from that time Jesus began to preach, "Repent, said he, for the kingdom of the Messiah draws nigh."

Thus went Jesus about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all sorts of diseases and infirmities among the people:

After this Jesus went about, preaching to every city and village, proclaiming the reign of the Messias, attended by his twelve apostles,

At length Paul went to the synagogue, where he spoke with great freedom, and for three months he conferr'd with them to persuade them of the truth of the evangelical kingdom.

and now I am persuaded you will none of you see my face any more: whilst I have been among you, I have proclaim'd the kingdom of the Messias:

ye men of Israel attend to what I say; Jesus of Nazareth was a man whom God distinguished among you, by miracles, by prodigies, and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as you your selves also know:

this was what he communicated to the children of Israel, proclaiming salvation by Jesus Christ, who is the Lord of all mankind. you know, how his fame spread from Galilee through all Judea, after the baptism which John had preach'd: how Jesus of Nazareth divinely inspired by the holy spirit, and with miraculous power, went about doing good, and healing all that were under the oppression of the devil: because God was with him.

preaching the kingdom of God, and instructing them in all things relating to the Lord Jesus Christ, with the utmost freedom, without being molested.

for what I, and Timothy, and Silvanus preached concerning Jesus Christ, the son of God, is not inconsistent, but invariably the same.

him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by means of the wicked, have crucified and slain: whom God hath raised up, having delivered him from the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be overpower'd by it.

the God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, and hanged on a tree.

we are witnesses of all his transactions, both in Judea, and at Jerusalem. however, they put him to death, even that of the cross. but God raised him up the third day, and shewed him openly, not to all the people, but to those witnesses, which God had before chosen: to us, I say, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.read more.
and he commanded us to publish, and to testify to the people, that he was the person whom God had constituted to be the judge of the living, and of the dead.

and for many days he was seen by those, who had accompany'd him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and they are now his witnesses to the people.

while the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom: we preach Christ crucified, an obstacle to the Jews indeed, and to the Gentiles foolishness: but to those who believe, both Jews and Gentiles, he is the Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Now if it has been declared, that Christ rose from the dead, how comes it, that some among you assert, "there is no resurrection of the dead?" for if there be no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. and if Christ be not risen, then our preaching is empty talk, and your faith even meer amusement.read more.
yea, and we are no better than enthusiastic impostors by affirming that God raised up Christ, when he never did raise him up. for if the dead are not raised, then was not Christ raised: and if Christ was not raised, your faith is meer illusion, your sins are not yet forgiven.

thus baptism, which corresponds to the deluge, does now save us, not as it is a cleansing from external filth, but as it is an engagement to lead a divine life, from the belief of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who being ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God, where angels, dominations, and potentates have been subjected to him.

therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

and when Silas and Timothy were arriv'd from Macedonia, Paul with great concern remonstrated to the Jews, that Jesus was the Messiah:

God has been pleas'd to over-look this state of ignorance: but now he enjoins all men every where to repent:

"the time, said he, is accomplish'd, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

Peter replied, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the holy spirit.

repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshment shall come from the presence of the Lord, who shall send Jesus Christ,

first I warn'd the people of Damascus, of Jerusalem, of all Judea, and then the Gentiles, to repent, and turn to God, by acting suitably to their repentance.

know then, my brethren, it is by him, that the remission of sins is offer'd to you:

thus it is written, and thus it behov'd Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preach'd in his name, among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

he is the person to whom all the prophets give this attestation, that all who believe in him, shall receive remission of sins, by his authority.

they continued stedfastly in the apostolical doctrine of a community, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

the twelve therefore assembled all the disciples, and said, it is not fit that we should leave the word of God, to mind what relates to your meals.

at length Barnabas departed to Tarsus in quest of Saul, and having found him, he conducted him to Antioch: where they resided a whole year with that church, and instructed abundance of disciples, and these disciples were the first that were denominated Christians.

In the mean time a Jew, nam'd Apollos, born at Alexandria, a man of letters, and vers'd in the scriptures, arriv'd at Ephesus. he had been instructed in the doctrine of the gospel, and being full of zeal, he harangued with great assiduity about what related to Jesus, though he had been only instituted in the baptism of John. having talk'd with great freedom in the synagogue, Aquila and Priscilla, who had heard him, invited him home, and gave him a more distinct view of the gospel.

that I have conceal'd nothing that might be useful to you, but have inform'd you of it, and instructed you therein, both in publick and in private:

so he continued there a year and a half preaching the word of God among them.

go and instruct all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost: teaching them to observe every thing which I have enjoin'd you: and be assured I shall be always with you to the end of the world.

but you have learned other things from Christ, if you have heard of him, and have been taught the truth as he preach'd it: to quit the vicious habits of your former conversation, corrupted by deceitful passions:read more.

Finally, my brethren, we intreat and conjure you by the Lord Jesus Christ, to observe the instructions we gave you about your religious conduct, and to make continual progress therein. for you know the precepts we gave you in the name of the Lord Jesus.

As for you, teach nothing but what is agreeable to sound doctrine: advise the aged to be prudent, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience: the aged women likewise, to behave with sanctity of manners, not false accusers, not given to tipling,read more.
but to lectures on virtue, that they may teach the young women prudence, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, good oeconimists, beneficent, submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. the young men likewise exhort to be modest. In all things show yourself a pattern of virtue: in teaching shewing uncorruptness, gravity; let your doctrine be sound and inoffensive, that your opponents may be ashamed, and have nothing that is ill to say of us. Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, to be entirely obsequious without grumbling. not to pilfer, but to show the strictest fidelity; that they may do honour to the doctrine of God our saviour in all things. For the divine savour has display'd its salutary effects to all mankind: teaching us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and to practise temperance, justice and piety in this present world; in expectation of that desirable happiness, the glorious appearance of the supreme God, and of our saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, to redeem us from all iniquity, and qualify us to be his peculiar people, passionately affected to virtue. these things remonstrate: recommend and enforce with all your authority: guard yourself against all contempt.

to preach the word with assiduity upon all occasions: reprove, censure, exhort, with the most tender persuasions.

When Paul and Barnabas were gone out of the Jewish synagogue, the Gentiles desired them to entertain them on the same subject, the following sabbath. when the assembly was separated, many Jews and religious proselytes followed after, to whom the apostles address'd themselves, and exhorted them to persevere in the divine dispensation.

After they had preach'd the gospel in that city, and made many disciples, they retook the road to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, encouraging the disciples, exhorting them to persevere in the faith, representing that it is thro' much tribulation that we must enter into the kingdom of God.

after having visited the faithful in those parts, and given them many exhortations, he went to Greece.

what is then to be done, my brethren? when you come together, one of you with a psalm, another with a doctrine, another with a strange tongue, another with a revelation, another with an interpretation: let the whole be done to edification. and if any man do speak in an unknown tongue, let but two speak, or three at the most, and that by turns: and let there be but one to interpret. but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and tacitly address himself to God.read more.
of the prophets let but two or three speak by turns, and let the others deliberate. if the meaning be revealed to another that sits by, let the first be silent. for ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may receive instruction and exhortation.

and what you heard me deliver in the presence of many, intrust to such persons of integrity as are qualified to instruct others

now I commend you, brethren, for remembring all my orders, and for keeping the rules I delivered to you.

be stedfast therefore, and firmly maintain the doctrine I have delivered to you, either by word of mouth, or by my letter.

Keep that form of sound doctrine you receiv'd from me, which consists in christian faith and charity: that valuable depositum do you preserve by the holy spirit, which resides in us.

At my departure from Macedonia, I advised you to stay at Ephesus in order to charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, or trouble their heads with fables and endless genealogies, which rather promote disputes than the gospel-dispensation:

from me, who called you by the grace of Christ; this can be owing to nothing but your being practised upon by some, who would overturn the gospel of Christ. but tho' I, or an angel from heaven should preach any thing to you for gospel, different from the gospel I have preached unto you, let him be accursed.read more.
as I said before, so say I now again, if any one preach any other thing to you for gospel, than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Now the spirit says expresly, that in the latter times some shall abandon the faith, by giving credit to seducing spirits, and the doctrine concerning demons; broach'd by hypocrititical impostors, whose consciences are cauteriz'd, interdicting marriage; and the use of animal food; which God created for the repast of the faithful, who embrace the truth with thankfulness.read more.
for all that God has created is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it be receiv'd with thanksgiving: since it is sanctified by the divine permission, and by prayer. If you represent these things to the brethren, you will appear to be a true minister of Jesus Christ, brought up in the institutions of faith, and the true doctrine to which you were attach'd. as for prophane and groundless fables, reject them.
