nor for that reproach, which was made to our fathers, where 'tis said, "behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new alliance with the house of Israel, and with the house of Juda:
but he was rebuked for his transgression: for an ass, as dumb as it was, spoke with an articulate voice, and reprimanded the extravagance of the prophet.

then Peter taking him aside, began to expostulate with him, saying, God forbid, Sir, this should ever happen to you.
and this he said in such an undisguised manner, that Peter took him aside, and pretended to reprimand him.
Then they brought children to him in order to have his blessing: and the disciples rebuked them.
Then they brought young children to him, that he might lay his hands upon them: but his disciples rebuked those that presented them.
And as they were presenting children to him, for the imposition of hands, his disciples observing it, rebuk'd those that brought them.
but having reproved Herod the tetrarch upon account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the mischiefs that Herod had done;
but the other answered, and thus reprov'd him, art thou under no awe of God, thou that art condemned to the same punishment? as for us, it is with justice, that we suffer the penalty due to our crimes: but as for him, what misdemeanour has he been guilty of?
Now in case such a brother do you an injury, go and expostulate with him in private: if he repents, thou hast saved thy brother.
take care of your conduct. if your brother offend you, rebuke him, and if he repent, forgive him.
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, do you, who are spiritual, restore him with all gentleness, taking heed lest you yourselves be overcome by temptation.
he it is that we preach, exhorting, and instructing men in every part of divine knowledge, that they may all be perfectly acquainted with the doctrine of Christ Jesus.
Let the christian doctrine be the familiar subject of your entertainment: in all wisdom instructing and exhorting one another, in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, melodiously tuning your grateful praises to God.
Don't treat a senior with harsh reproof, but exhort him as a father, and the young men, as brethren:
Those that transgress reprove in publick, to strike a terror in the rest.
for all divinely inspired writings are conducive to instruction, to conviction, to reformation, and the practice of virtue;
to preach the word with assiduity upon all occasions: reprove, censure, exhort, with the most tender persuasions.
attach'd to the truth, that has been taught him, that he may be able to teach others sound doctrine, and to convince those who oppose it.
these things remonstrate: recommend and enforce with all your authority: guard yourself against all contempt.
My brethren, when any of you deviates from the truth, whoever sets him right, may be assured, that the retrieving of a sinner from his erroneous habits, is saving a soul from ruin, and cancels a multitude of sins.
have you forgot the exhortation which is address'd to you, as to children? "my son, despise not thou the chastning of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him.
for whom the Lord loveth, he chastises, and scourgeth every son whom he receives."
as many as I love, I rebuke and chastise: be warm therefore with zeal, and repent.
