Chilly Reception (Japanese: さむいギャグ Cold Gag) is a non-damaging Ice-type move introduced in Generation IX. It is the signature move of Slowking and one of the signature moves of Galarian Slowking.

Effect

Chilly Reception creates snow on the battlefield and switches the user out. Snow instigated by this move lasts five turns (or eight turns if the user is holding an Icy Rock). The user will still switch out even if there is already snow on the field when the move is used. If there are no other teammates to switch to, it will only change the weather to snow.

If the move is selected directly, before using the move, the following message is displayed: "<Pokémon> is preparing to tell a chillingly bad joke!" even if the move fails to execute. Using this move through a move that calls another move will not display the aforementioned message.

Description

Games Description
SV The user tells a chillingly bad joke before switching places with a party Pokémon in waiting. This summons a snowstorm lasting five turns.

Trivia

  • In Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, a "cold" joke is often used to refer to a joke that has no punchline, or one that fails to get a laugh from its audience. An unamused audience may remark that the room is suddenly cold. A similar joke in the English language is to pretend to only hear crickets respond to a bad joke. An exaggeration of this response in media, particularly in comedies, is to have the room literally become cold as a result of a bad joke. This is reflected in-game by the user creating a snowstorm, then leaving the battlefield, presumably ashamed of its terrible joke.
