The Thunder Stone (Japanese: かみなりのいし Lightning Stone), formatted Thunderstone prior to Generation VI, is a type of Evolution stone introduced in Generation I.

In the Generation V games, the Thunderstone can be sold to an item maniac inside the Icirrus City Pokémon Center for $3000.
Effect
Can be used to evolve one of several Pokémon. This consumes the Thunder Stone.
- Causes Pikachu to evolve into Raichu (outside of Alola) or Alolan Raichu (in Alola)
- The Thunder Stone cannot be used to evolve Cosplay Pikachu, Pikachu in a cap, the Partner Pikachu, or Pikachu with the Gigantamax Factor into Raichu.
- Causes Magneton to evolve into Magnezone (Generation VIII onward)
- Causes Eevee to evolve into Jolteon
- The Thunder Stone cannot be used to evolve the Partner Eevee or Eevee with the Gigantamax Factor into Jolteon.
- Causes Nosepass to evolve into Probopass (Generation VIII onward)
- The Thunder Stone cannot be used to evolve Nosepass into Probopass in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
- Causes Eelektrik to evolve into Eelektross
- Causes Charjabug to evolve into Vikavolt (Generation VIII onward)
- Causes Tadbulb to evolve into Bellibolt

Can be used to evolve one of several Pokémon by offering it at the Luminous CaveRB or Luminous SpringTDS or by using it in a dungeonGtI. This consumes the Thunderstone.
- Causes Pikachu to evolve into Raichu

If thrown, it will deal 1RBTDS/2GtI damage (2 if sticky). In Red Rescue Team, Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky, using this item in a dungeon will consume it, with no effect.

Pokémon Conquest
In Pokémon Conquest, Pikachu and Eevee evolve into Raichu and Jolteon, respectively, if their link is improved while their Warrior is equipped with a Thunderstone.
A Thunderstone can be purchased from the traveling merchant for 5000 gold, and sold for 2500-3250 gold.

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning
The Thunder Stone debuted in Electric Shock Showdown, when Nurse Joy gave Ash a Thunder Stone so that he could evolve his Pikachu in order to defeat Lt. Surge's Raichu. Pikachu, however, refused the offer.
In The Battling Eevee Brothers, the Thunder Stone appeared as part of a collection held by the Eevee brothers. Two of the Eevee brothers offered a Fire Stone and Thunder Stone to Brock and Ash to evolve their respective Vulpix and Pikachu, though both refused.
Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl
In Pika and Goliath!, Ash was revealed to have kept his Thunder Stone in case Pikachu ever wanted to evolve. When a similar scenario to the one in Vermilion City occured again, Pikachu still refused to use the stone. Seeing his determination to not evolve, Team Rocket stole the stone, planning to sell it.
Pokémon the Series: Black & White
Ash had to find a Thunder Stone in a scavenger hunt as part of the Wishing Bell Festival contest in Climbing the Tower of Success!. He came across a young man in possession of one who tried to toss it to him from a long distance. The Thunder Stone nearly came in contact with Pikachu but he jumped out of the way just in time, leaving Ash to catch it.
Mystery on a Deserted Island! featured the Thunder Stone along with all of the other Evolution stones available as of Generation V.
Pokémon the Series: XY
A Thunder Stone appeared in To Catch a Pokémon Smuggler! as a part of Clemont's explanation of how evolution works, Pikachu's evolution into Raichu working as an example of stone-induced evolution.
A full set of Evolution stones was seen on display in a stone shop in Geosenge Town in The Cave of Trials!.
Pokémon Journeys: The Series
Multiple Thunder Stones appeared in Gotta Catch a What?!, where multiple wild Pikachu were digging them up in a valley in order to evolve. One was found by Goh's newly caught Pikachu, who gave it to her Trainer. Later, Goh used the Stone to evolve his Pikachu into Raichu in order to help defeat Team Rocket.
A Thunder Stone was seen in To Train, or Not to Train!, when members of the Eevee Evolution Lab tried to get an Eevee to evolve, only for it to not work.
In Out of Their Elements!, Harmony and Billy attempted to use a Fire Stone and a Thunder Stone, respectively, to evolve their Eevee partners. However, they accidentally dropped the stones onto the wrong Eevee, causing them to evolve into opposite forms than what they had intended. They attempted to correct the mistake with the spare stones they had, but the stones had no effect on the already-evolved Pokémon. At the end of the episode, they gave their spare stones to Chloe.

The focus of the chapter To Evolve or Not to Evolve, That Is the Question! was Evolution stones, including the Thunder Stone.

Yellow arc
In The Kindest Tentacruel, the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman told Yellow about a legend of an underwater dome at the bottom of Vermilion Harbor, housing a set of Evolution stones which, unlike normal stones, did not disappear after making a Pokémon evolve, allowing them to be used repeatedly. The cause of Red's Poliwhirl's evolution had been one of these said stones, proving the legend to be true. Yellow was later led to the dome by a wild Tentacruel, finding a Leaf Stone in it, but the Fire, Thunder, and Water Stones were missing. Later, it was revealed that Giovanni had given them to Red so he could freely evolve and devolve his Eevee.
Pokémon Zensho
In Indigo Plateau, Satoshi's Pikachu used a Thunder Stone to evolve itself into a Raichu before Satoshi left to challenge the Elite Four.
Trivia
- Through a glitch in the Generation I games, Pokémon that would normally require an Evolution stone to evolve can be evolved without it, provided that the Pokémon levels up in the battle and the player has sent out a specific Pokémon in the same battle. In the case of the Thunderstone, this Pokémon is Growlithe.
- In Pokémon Yellow, if the player attempts to use a Thunder Stone on their Pikachu, it'll refuse. Talking to Pikachu afterwards will cause it to shake its head. Traded Pikachu are unaffected by this.
- In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, if the player tries to give their Partner Pokémon a Thunder Stone, they will not accept it, and therefore, will not evolve. In Eevee's case, the same thing will happen if the player attempts to give them a Fire Stone or a Water Stone.
