Distributed environment

Is the central repository the ONLY repository, or does the system support distributed development (proxy repositories?) Thanks!

As I understand it the system support a distributed environment on the server side. The best place to find out more about the engine that commons uses is at the mediawiki.org website. J.smith (talk) 21:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Erroneously created page/how to fix?

It seems my experience in creating and CFDing pages at en.wikipedia.org does not help me here. I created this page in an effort to get all Pentastar-related images to show up when "pentastar" is typed into the search field. It didn't work, and I am requesting assistance getting rid of (or fixing) the page I created, and properly doing what I set out to do. Thanks. —Scheinwerfermann (talk) 17:46, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Additional question by user asked on my talkpage regarding images not showing up in the search. I do not know the answer. Can someone with more technical knowledge please help. -- Deadstar (msg) 12:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
To elaborate: I've found that when I put in "Pentastar" and click "search" it'll come up saying "showing images 1-5 of 5" and only shows 4 images. Seems there is no easy answer as there was no further reaction. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Picutres of Lakes uplaoded on 2nd Novemebr 2008

I uploaded a number of photos of Lakes of 2nd November 2008 from Flickr which were under common license use under the categories India,Bangalore, Mysore and Punjab. They were all successfully upoladed as per the tikcer seen after each uploading. I am unable to find any of them in my gallery or under the gallery of Lakes of India or other places. Please let me know under what category I can find the photos now. --Nvvchar (talk) 08:21, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

  • You can see what you've done by clicking on the "my contributions" link near the top of the screen. J.smith (talk) 15:39, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
    • I have had a look and you have done almost everything correct. But you need to take a little more care with the names of the categories. You added two images to Category:Punjab India- this category does not exist. At the bottom of the image you will see that the link is displayed in red. Before you use a category- type the name you propose to use in the search box to the left. If it exists you will see the name come up there. I corrected one by renaming it Category:Punjab.Category:Mysore,Category:Bangalore are good.
    • I have found your old man in Category:Lakes of India the common mistake here is to search in Category:Lakes in India which doesn't exist- in most cases (manufactured items) the preposition in in used for categories- but for geographic features it is of. So, go to the link given by J.smith, and look at each of your images- and check whether you have a blue link (OK) or a red link (bad)when you need to try another category. Keep smiling.-ClemRutter (talk) 18:38, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Obsolete files

I regularly update my own pictures by replacing them with pictures with a better quality. I use the option: "Upload a newer version of this file". When I use that option the old version is indeed replaced by the new version, but the old version is kept intact in the file history. As far as I am concerned, the older version is obsolete and can be deleted. Is there a way to delete my own obsolete versions or is this against policy? Wikifrits (talk) 21:27, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

It is possible to delete older versions, but this only makes them invisible to the normal user. They are not removed from the server, to allow for their undeletion. This means that it is possible to delete older versions, but it doesn't really make much of a difference. --rimshottalk 22:03, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Bald Eagle

I took a picture this summer of an eagle that I beleive to be a bald eagle. There was a nest in a tree situated on a lot near my home. The picture is not very clear, but I think that it is a bald eagle. How can I submit the picture to have it identified, then add it to the list of pictures of bald eagles? Thank you.

Commons:Upload is a good place to start if you want to upload a picture of the bald eagle. The Wikipedia:Reference_desk is a great place to ask all sorts of questions. --J.smith (talk) 03:07, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Special:Search

Why can't I find more than one picture when I make this query ? I thought all pictures tagged with Template:PD-India should appear. Google finds 738 pages. Teofilo (talk) 23:32, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Umm not sure... The best way to see what pages are using a template is the " Special:WhatLinksHere" page. --J.smith (talk) 07:30, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes but I wanted to refine my search by adding additional keywords. Special:Whatlinkshere is fine to find all pages including the template, but this can't be refined to "includes the template + refining keyword"...
Anyway I don't need this search anymore, and if I need it again, I will use Google. Thank you for your help. Teofilo (talk) 10:28, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Looks like it's not including the transcluded text in the search. Sorry. On image:Brooklands Coonoor.jpg it looks like the template was substed.\
Yes, google is a good tool. Another concept (depending on what you looking for) would be to to use the built in text-search feature in your browser. Ctrl+F most of the time. Good luck! --J.smith (talk) 08:43, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

SVG font missing?

the image was perfect in my inkscape but on the server instead of Hebrew letters i see black squares. Hidro (talk) 15:30, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Did you use the save option "normal SVG" instead of "Inkscape-SVG"? -- Хрюша ?? 17:31, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
now it's "plain SVG" and there is no difference. Hidro (talk) 17:46, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
You will probably have to convert the text to a path inside your drawing program. I don't think Mediawiki can render Hebrew characters embedded in an SVG. Powers (talk) 17:51, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry Hidro, I tried two ways. Powers' proposal was successful. -- Хрюша ?? 18:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
it's not right, Mediawiki (by Imagemagick) hes rendered Hebrew in the past, look. Hidro (talk) 18:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
I was probably wrong. Hebrew characters can be rendered if the font used is on this list. Though there may still be problems with the right-to-left sequencing: compare the image thumbnail at right to the rendered SVG. Powers (talk) 20:30, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
i used DejaVu Serif which is in the font list. the rendered SVG RLM bug is locale at your browser. Hidro (talk) 20:52, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Was mache ich falsch, resp. was habe ich noch vergessen? -- Хрюша ?? 08:55, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Similar to many examples in the Category:Pictures by author I created Category:Pictures by Chriusha. Almost all users do not categorise their pictures with [[Category:Pictures by xxx]]. Anyway the picture files are listed. What is wrong in my category configuration or what need I additionaly do to get listed my picture files (without adding this category to all of them)? -- Хрюша ?? 08:40, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

You (or a bot) would need to add the category to all of them if you wanted all of them to be included. Personally, I created a template called {{User:J.smith/image info}} that includes the category Category:Files by Justin Smith. --J.smith (talk) 18:52, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Quicktime to OGV with ffmpeg2theora

Has anyone had success converting Quicktime MOV files to OGV? I tried ffmpeg2theora (per Help:CV) but the result is at Image:Piazza San Marco.ogv - sounds like crap and the video basically doesn't play. I'm running Windows so apparently tovid is not an option for me. Any help is appreciated since I have several videos I'd like to upload. Thanks. —Wknight94 (talk) 03:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

i use OggConvert (on Linux) and don't have any problem. Hidro (talk) 23:35, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I used that to create another .ogv file and it works quite well through the VLC media player! However, it still won't play here. Can anyone else play it here successfully? —Wknight94 (talk) 16:32, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
When checking that file above I get a rather laggy .ogv file playing, I think something is wrong with the converting. --Kanonkas(talk) 16:36, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Interesting. Maybe it's the one .MOV file I had. I converted Image:Basilica di San Marco courtyard.ogv the same way and it appears to be fine. —Wknight94 (talk) 18:45, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
I decreased the video quality in oggconvert to 1 and now the video seems okay. The audio is more important in that first one anyway. Thanks! —Wknight94 (talk) 19:31, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Thumbnails don't update

Help! I updated a picture, but the thumbnails aren't updating. This isn't a local cache issue: I've checked on another computer. I've even tried the purge function recommended on Wikipedia. The image is: Image:Samesex marriage in USA.svg. You will notice that California is not updated in the thumb, but it is on the full scale image. Magog the Ogre (talk) 00:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

If you are having image thumbnail problems...

I spoke with a Dev on IRC and found out that they are aware of the issue and have resolved the problem. If you still experiencing problems click on the "purge" link at the top of the page and clear your local cache. Most of the time you can do that by holding down SHIFT and then pressing the reload button in your browser. --J.smith (talk) 01:18, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Bonjour,

Merci Kipmaster (talk) 20:24, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I have a birth certificate established in 1911 which is, according to article L213-2 of the French "code du patrimoine" a public archive transmissible by rights, because it was established more than 75 years ago (it was previously 100 years, but a recent law shortened the delay). The question is: does this mean "public domain", and which license template should I use in this case? Thanks Kipmaster (talk) 20:24, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Basically, if all he gives you permission to do is use the image on Wikipedia, that's not enough for commons. You could probably use the image under "fair use" on Wikipedia, but you would need to upload it directly there in that case. J.smith (talk) 19:20, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Question by 128.187.0.164

I'm a Univ. Professor wanting to use a copy of Da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" (found in low resolution on Wikipedia) as a small illustration in a book. Its resolution on Wikipedia is fine for this particular publication. Do I need a special licensing agreement from Wikipedia or another source to use this image?

128.187.0.164 16:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Depends on which one you want to use.
  • Da Vinci Vitruve Luc Viatour.jpg is {{PD-art}} which is some kind of {{PD-old}}. You can do whatever you want with that image without any restrictions
  • Vitruvian Man Measurements.png is a derevativ from the first image. However, Unitfreak released it into Public Domain -> You can do whatever you want with that image without any restrictions
  • Eur.it.100.gif is licenced under {{Money-EU}} "This design is copyrighted by the ECB, and its use is permitted by ECB, "as long as reproductions in advertising or illustrations cannot be mistaken for genuine banknotes" and [for coins] "for photographs, drawings, paintings, films, images, and generally reproductions in flat format (without relief) provided they are in faithful likeness and are used in ways which do not damage or detract from the image of the euro"
  • Skylab2-Patch.png is in the Public Domain. You can do whatever you want with that image without any restrictions
I hope I included the information you asked for

Not a requirement, but commons would appreciate being given credit for providing the image. :) --J.smith (talk) 19:54, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Help Removing a Duplicate Image

Hi. I uploaded an image of a 1914 oil painting by Raymonds Beal (titled - Echo Bay) and saved it under the name EchoBay.jpg. I wanted to add the image to a wikipedia article on 'Echo Bay' however there was already an image on Wikipedia with the same name (but entirely different content). I re-uploaded the image using a slightly different name (EchoBayNR.jpg) and thought the new upload would replace the original one. I was wrong and now there is a duplicate file. Can you help me delete the original image I wanted to replace? The name is EchoBay.jpg. Thank You--JGMetrics (talk) 13:12, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Tagging a empty badly named category for deletion

Remind me please, I have recatted five files in a wrongly named category. It is empty, it is an orphan- what tag do I use to request the deletion of this Bad name cat. -ClemRutter (talk) 12:57, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

You can use {{speedy|Badname category}} but the best option is just nominate for deletion. {{Delete}}. I think that is the best way to go. Sterkebaktalk 12:59, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
{{Badname|Right name category}} and {{speedy|Badname category}} are the light weight (and quick) procedures. {{Delete|Reason}} are the full procedures such as for the image deletes. --Foroa (talk) 13:35, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
I knew it was difficult! But where is the documentation for the tag? -ClemRutter (talk) 16:30, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Just click the links given by Foroa. This will take you right to the template itself and the documentation. Regards -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 20:21, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks ChrisiPK. That isn't quite the point I was trying to make. As a editor venturing into new territory (or one with a lousy memory), I click on the left panel Help. At the bottom of the blue panel I find Deletion requests. I click. Now I am on page Commons:Deletion requests. Where on this page is the link to {{Delete}}- I have been sucked into a black hole.
So lets examine the documentation {{Delete}}, it perfectly documents what {{Delete}} does- but only if you understand the history. I don't want to know what a subpage is, just how to set up a category deletion request and how to use a subpage if I do need one. Remember my goal is to zap an empty category. If I could find the information I was looking for I would write a quick howto- which is what is needed. -ClemRutter (talk) 11:01, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
To me, this is a long unncessary workaround. All wikiobjects should simply have a delete (and move) tab and in function of the type of user and object, the available options (and documentation) should be presented. --Foroa (talk) 11:16, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
IMHO a simple guide „What to delete how“ would do, as adding even more buttons to the standard interface for all users just makes it even more complicated for unexperienced users. Logged in users can check Quick Delete on the Preferences/Gadgets page to get a link which opens a deletion request next to every image. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 17:58, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Was that an offer? :-) -ClemRutter (talk) 20:12, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

dolphin 24 sailboat

Hi I am the webmaster (http://www.dolphin24.org) for a classic sailboat (loosely a boat owners association)for the Dolphin 24, a sailboat designed by Sparkman & Stephens in 1958. We would like to get a page that would be in the 'keelboats' category in "classes of keelboats". This would include description, history, technical specs and a link to our website

I thought an easy way to do this was use the existing similar page "Pearson Triton" as a template, edit the necessary changes, new title, etc. Is this feasible?

Ronbreault@cs.com

Hi Ron, Wikimedia Commons is only for hosting images. IF you have some images of sailboats that you own the rights to that you would like to contribute to the project then we would love to have them! What your talking about sounds like an article on wikipedia. You can read about how to go forward with making your own article here: Wikipedia:Getting_started. The only caviot is that wikipedia may delete your artile if the subject has not been covered in a well-known newspaper(or similar) previously. Good luck, --J.smith (talk) 08:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

My account is too new so I was unable to overwrite this file. The new image validates with the w3c validation service. --GICodeWarrior (talk) 06:35, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

You could use this tag: {{duplicate|image:oldimagename.jpg}} - those two images are identical in how they display. Oh, please fix the authorship information. user:Mysid created the original and should be given credit. --J.smith (talk) 08:13, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

✓ Done, I transferred the new image to the old name. Marking the original image as duplicate is not really a good option, since it is used on a lot of projects and it breaks the file history. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 14:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

FP Nomination

Hello,

I have submitted a nomination for a featured picture: Image:Mount Rainier panorama.jpg. Unfortunately, many people did not like it, and I am wondering if there's any formal way where I can temporarily suspend the nominations while my picture goes through extensive editing.

licencse

What will the license be if is a clip art image? --24.1.4.241 00:36, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

This depends mainly on the creator of the image as he is the only one who can choose to publish his image under a free license. If it is an image, you just found on the web without permission to use it under a free license, please do not upload it here as we cannot use it. The only exception are images which consist of simple geometric shapes. If they are really simple, they are ineligible for copyright and can be used on this project. Brazilian maps from governmental websites

I am currently writing some articles in danish about Brazil and I am looking for some maps. I found one map: Image:Bacia_hidro.jpg which is taken from the website of the brazilian ministry of public transport with the copyright tag: "Copyrighted free use", does this mean that all maps from this website is "free use" ? I need to correct an image

I ask for any administrator help. If you see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Gusen-chart.PNG , there is a gross mistake in it. Spanish victims are represented with part of dictatorship's flag. Since they were in the opposite side, that is a total lack of respect for their memory. Indeed, the most correct flag, the flag that could represent all Spanish victims, would be the Republican flag. However, I assumed that "Standard" Spanish flag, without dictatorship's shield, would be a better election in order to be more recognizable by the majority of International users of wikipedia.

My user is quite new. I create it for correct this image. Wikimedia announced me that I cannot change an image yet and I need to contact with any administrator. So, I demand help in order to exchange prior Gusen-chart.PNG for Gusen-chart-corrected.

Thank you in advance

P.S.: In fact, I find all the chart outraging. German and Italian victims are represented with the flag of their murderers and betrayers. I would appreciate to see that flags changed but, as a Spaniard, I feel myself only able to demand a change of the Spanish flag used in the chart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poliorcetes (talk • contribs) 15:33, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Poliorcetes, please remember to sign your talk page contributions with --~~~~. Regarding the image: The flags are the official flags of the countries at that time. It is possible, that the surviving victims could probably not identify with these flags, but they were citizens of the countries which used these flags. Thus changing the flag would be a misrepresentation of history, even though the survivors might probably like it. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 15:57, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. ChrisiPK, your argument is formally correct, and a flag is a internationally acknowledged symbol of a country. During the operation years of Gusen, these were the flags of the countries, with one exception: Spain.
As you surely know, Spanish Civil War was just ended when WW2 began and KL started to operate. During these years, and some years after, there were no international unanimity in recognizing Dictatorship as legitimate government of Spain. Spanish Republic maintain a government in exile, and it could be safely said that this situation ended when Spain was finally admitted in UN. Keeping this in mind, I can defend the deleting of dictatorship's shield off the Spanish national banner, in order to surpass the problem of representing the prisoners. Indeed, German or Italian prisoners couldn't be represented by any other flag at that time, but this is not the case of Spaniards.
Anyways, we can simplify this question a lot. Besides correctness of national representation, there is a quite important question about the real people represented with this chart. Just imagine a German, Italian or Spanish prisoner consulting wikipedia, reading Gusen article and looking at himself represented by the symbol of their betrayers or torturers. The problem can be solved easily: just return to a neutral palette of colours (the palette of OpenOffice, for instance), and any moral problems would be avoided. If you contrast these moral problems with the benefits of render national flags of that moment in the chart, cost-benefit relationship is quite clear.

Hi Poliorcetes, feel free to correct the image as you like. However, I am afraid that not all users will agree on this change, so you should upload your own version with another name. The projects can then decide on their own which version to use. If you really feel the urgent need to overwrite the old image with your own version, you should be able to do this 4 days after you have registered. I would, however, recommend discussing this on the projects on which the image is used. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 18:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, ChrisiPK. As surely you have guessed, I am a novice as a wikimedia contributor and I need to understand the basics of wikimedia netetiquette. I really would choose to discuss the issue with other contributors instead of try (in vain, I assume) to impose my point of view. Would it be correct to discuss it in media discussion page or in the wikipedia discussion page or in both?

USS S-28 (SS 133) PICTURE

Hello, i was looking at the article on the USS S-28 (a diesel sub from WWII that went down near Pearl Harbor). My father was a crew member on that ship and was released from duty to go to another station 3 July 1944, just hours before the ship went down. i have a picture of the crew and a pic of the memorial that my Dad was asked to accept on behalf of his fellow crewmembers "on eternal patrol". please tell me how to post these pics in the article about this ship. thank you. User:Pamelapeck

  • Semper fi. What rate was your dad? As a submariner myself I always am sad to read about such tragedies. Assuming the picture was taken by a sailor on active duty, the picture should be public domain as an official product of the US government. You can use the {{PD-USGov-Military-Navy}} license to show this. First click "Upload a file" in the left hand of your screen and follow the various prompts. Be as specific as possible where it asks for information, because Commons is very strict on copyright compliance. Where it asks for "Source" if you put "my dad" this is not good. If you put what you wrote above that it was a gift from the crew, that is better. Next, go to Wikipedia, and edit the page you want to put the image in. en:Wikipedia:Picture tutorial provides a good guide for the syntax required to place an image in an article. -Nard the Bard 01:56, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Australian map locations

I want to upload a screenshot of a map to show the location of a town in Australia. The town, Julia Creek, AU-QLD, was mentioned in the article [1], which linked to a Google map [2], which is interactive. I zoomed in and centred it so that the edges show Port Moresby, PG-NCD, Brisbane, AU-QLD, the AU-WA & AU-NT border, and Darwin, AU-NT. I took a screenshot and cropped it to retain the entire image and heading of "Julia Creek, 4823" and saved it as Julia_Creek,_AU-QLD.png. As such, the image contains the text, "Powered by Google", in logo form in the lower left and the text, "Map data ©2008 GBRMPA, MapData Sciences Pty Ltd, PSMA, AND - Terms of Use" in the lower right. I've looked up the company in the left and the four in the right and found websites for all five, [3], [4], [5], [6], and [[7] but I find it really difficult to work out the full copyright status. The terms of use link to [8]. As an alternative, I went to [9] and found a map but the image contains the text, "WhereIs® © 2008 legals" in logo form and links to [10]. Ultimately, I just want to show a map that showcases Julia Creek, AU-QLD in relation to the nearest capital cities on the article for that town. If I have to I might just mark an "X" on a CIA World Factbook map of Australia or something. Please help me sort through this legalese. :)--Thecurran (talk) 07:28, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Please see m:Help:Unified login for why you don’t have to create a new account.
If you decide to still use your new account (presuming it has a different user name) instead of the old one, there is a button which e-mails you to change your password.

Hello, I edited a wikipedia article (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike_Hercules) and added a picture. I uploaded the picture to Wikimedia Commons and it shows up in the article. Everything looks OK. When i click on the picture in Wikipedia it states a reference to the article (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afbeelding:Nike-Hercules_firing_NAMFI_220Sq.jpg) and it mentions that the information comes from the Wikimedia Commons and it also states that the picture is used in the article. However when i go to the Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Nike-Hercules_firing_NAMFI_220Sq.jpg) it states: "There are no pages that link to this file". I find this odd as there is a linking page/article. Do I need to add this link myself in the commons? regards, --Butch (talk) 14:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Commons is a medium server for hundreds of projects, and potentially any project in the world. The links in the image refer only to its use inside commons. Canada Department of Defense Images ?

Can I upload these images ? Which license should I use ?

I'd like to upload images from the following web site.

Canada Flag Folding images

The copyright information is here.

Can I upload these images ? Which license should I use ?

More info ? Crown copyright
I think I found the answer...

All copyrighted material on Commons must be licensed under a free license that allows anyone to use the material for any purpose. In particular, the license must meet the following conditions:

   * Republication and distribution must be allowed.
   * Publication of derivative work must be allowed.
   * Commercial use of the work must be allowed.
   * Acknowledgment of all authors/contributors of a work may be required.
   * Publication of derivative work under the same license may be required.
   * For digital distribution, use of open file formats free of digital restrictions management may be required.

Since these images are NOT available for Commercial use, I cannot upload them.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

I believe your right. Most governments hold copyright - the US government (and a few others) are the exception. --J.smith (talk) 19:18, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Changing image file name

Hi. I was wondering if it was possible to change an image file name after it has been uploaded. If so, how do I do this? Sorry, we still can't rename images. Just re-upload image under new name and put {{Bad name}} on old one. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:15, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I have a related question. Many images on commons have no description, and an unenlightening file name that was generated by a digital camera or software. If I add a description, is it also worthwhile to change the file name? The example I have in mind is Image:67094765 c4oS6pkX IMG 3665s.jpg. --Amble (talk) 17:04, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, if you add a description and/or category, you can also request a namechange by adding {{rename|new name.ext}}. An admin will review and it'll get changed. -- Deadstar (msg) 21:43, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I know it's possible, but what I'm really wondering is whether the admins will consider such name changes worthwhile, or an annoyance. --Amble (talk) 00:38, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Image:RecruitWomensLandArmyWW1.jpg

Is Image:RecruitWomensLandArmyWW1.jpg covered by en:Crown Copyright in the UK, or do we treat it as the work of Henry George Gawthorn (died 1941)? Angus McLellan (Talk) 16:14, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I've come across a problem on enwiki that I'd like to refer to the experts here. A Feb. 1926 issue of National Geographic contains an article by Bella Woolf on pearl fishing. In this article there's a photograph which is marked as "Photo by Plate Ltd". Plate Ltd appears to have been a quite large and upmarket photography company in colonial Ceylon, modern Sri Lanka. The NGS, efficient bastards, renewed the copyright for the periodical, so that's still in copyright. But did this renewal automatically include the photograph by another party? That's the US, but I have another thought. What's the situation as regards duration of copyright in Sri Lanka? Angus McLellan (Talk) 17:27, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, it would depend on the particular agreement they had with NG. If National Geographic purchased the copyright (unlikely) then it would count as being renewed. If NG only purchased a license to use that image for thier publication (much more likely) then the copyright of the image would have been up to Plate Ltd to renew. It's my understanding that in Shi Lanka, a photograph falls under Public Domain "25 years from the making of the work".[11] --J.smith (talk) 23:41, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Some Help

  • ✓ Done Ok, it's been deleted. We can't accept images with a "ND" restriction because it keeps us from making changes to the image. Our software automatically creates what might be considered by some as derivative works in the process of resizing and re-compressing. In addition, part of our goal here is to provide a free-image repository... if the image is restricted in that way, it is considered to be not free enough for us. --J.smith (talk) 23:30, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

We can't currently allow OpenOffice files since we can't verify their contents appropriately. This is being worked on, but may be a while coming. You can instead perhaps upload a PDF if is it in scope.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 05:42, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

It's neither "good" nor "bad, the crux however is not about reproduction with a license similar to this one, but in legal control over "Those who reproduce the work must attribute it in the manner specified by ?" The path forwards already starts to make the sounds of a bumpy ride, if that's an answer Mion (talk) 17:13, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

This image is licensed under {{Cc-by-2.5}} so you need only to credit author and mention license. See also Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:02, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, you have several ways to do that, but credit to the author must appear somewhere (we'll chose the second license the author decided to use, CC-by 2.5). No need to link to the license the legal text states the contrary: it is a permissive license (I use it too) which permits you to include his photos on commercial projects without having to link to the license provided that you attribute the author and mention the license (CC-by 2.5). Putting this text on your card will be enough:
Photo © David Iliff, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Diliff — CC-by 2.5
(If you can, link to http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/ too; the legal text asks for it)
Feel free to remove the word “Photo” if there is no ambiguity about the authorship (like, if the text is immediately below the photo). If you don't like the “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Diliff”, a solution is to email him, so you can talk about a potential non-free use of his photos (maybe paid). As soon as the license terms are honored, you are allowed to use it without contacting the author, unless you want to. :) Diti the penguin 16:13, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

No, MP3 files are not allowed on Commons and Wikipedia. You have to convert it into OGG, and also your file must be within the public domain or under a free license. Commercial songs aren't allowed allowed either. Diti the penguin 12:26, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

According to Public_domain#Sweden, "Governmental laws and ordinances, decisions and statements published by Swedish authorities, and official translations thereof, are not copyright protected. I would like to post a logo for an organization

Hello, I'm a newbie here, I created this article List of Syrian cartoonists as it should show the logo of the organization, I need to post the logo of FECO which is free logo type and it could be found randomly on the web pages who describe or give general information about it. Anyone can follow the references mentioned in the article and can see the logo. In case I wrongfully violated some copyrights standards, would anybody please guide me how to make it legally published?

can I create a category for listing Syrian people then a sub one to sort Syrian cartoonists, artists, leaders, musicians ..etc.?

Anyone can help please?

Many thanks. SAM

You could ask permission to publish logo under free license. See Commons:Email templates.
Of course you could improve categorization related to Syrian people. See other similar categories as example to naming conventions.

Oh, BTW, if you want to add your signiture (helps other people know who left the message, etc) just put 4 tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message. Also, if you want to reply to a message start you message off with ":::". That will indent your message. Just use one more ":" then the person above you. --J.smith (talk) 17:38, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Pictures of Characters from Samurai Warriors

There is an article on Wikipedia called "List of characters from Samurai Warriors," and on the official website (courtesy of Koei Games, Inc.) there are copiable and saveable pictures of them. I would wish to add those pictures to the article, but I can not tell licenses apart. I am guessing that the ability to copy them and save them does not mean anything when identifying a picture's licensing. They are probably not GFDL, but they do not have a warning saying to not distribute these pictures to anywhere but in a My Pictures folder on a computer. Badoy Executive Director III Museum of Philippine Political History here I explained all to Director Badoy, regarding my fear and anxiety that many Barangays and even Catholic churches would hinder my photography due to the corruption problems of fear on Graft and misuse of funds like irregular road constructions; so, Director Badoy of the NCCA told me that as a Judge, I should know the law and rules and that it is my right under the Bill of Rights, freedom of the press, expression and religion to take photos; they have right at all to grant me a written paper Giving me the written right to show to the officers my gate pass, for under R.A. 6713, they would violate the law by granting me what is already Granted by law; as proof, he let me take his picture to show to Commons and to the Barangays and Churches that the NCCA has jurisdiction and that I, as Judge of a Regional Trial Court, that is, of Malabon-Navotas, Metro Manila, Br. 73, can show his photo as proof of right from the very NCCA to take photos of facades etc.; not contented, I went to c) the office of the Husband of my classmate in Ateneo Law School, Class 1983, Director Blancaflor who had happy days with my classmate; but he was not around or abroad, so, I talked to the Lawyer in charge or well informed on the matter of Philippine Copyright Law; he explained to me that as the NCCA officially stated, I do have the absolute right to take photos of facades and those under discussion in the No freedom of panorama in the Philippines, since Commons went there and there was no ruling yet, for their Office cannot prevent one from taking these photos; I explained to them the Laws of USA for Commons, and he and I knew that our Copyright Law was copied from USA and American Jurisprudence; as proof, I took photos of the outside exterior and even the interior of the Director Blancaflor's Office, as verbal permit to take photos as exception to the No freedom of panorama in the Philippines; File:FvfIPCenter0160 28.JPG Intellectual Property Center IP PHL 29 photos I told him that I have no intention of folow-ups and their position is clear that I can take photos; in the end, I told him and of course many time to editors and admins here at Commons, that, if any editor or admin may desire to delete my No freedom of panorama in the Philippines photos, I will have no objection on the matter, and leave the sound discretion to the Discussions on the nominations page; Addendum; since there is a change of Administration due to recent Elections, I will wait for the opportune time and may go back to the IPO Office at Global Port, WHEREFORE, premises considered, I have no objection to the deletion, and very respectfully and sincerely --Judgefloro 18:06, 20 November 2016 (UTC) (talk)

  • I disagree with reasons and I am submitting hereunder my suggestions or discussions with proof that the New discussion on PHL FoP is not finished yet or may be re-opened, since my legally valid queries submitted thereat were not yet resolved: in short, the valid legal issues I raised on FOP were not yet resolved but simply evaded leading to temporary or even false conclusions or theories: a) I relied - Estoppel in Pais - on the supposed filing of the letter by IanLopez vis-à-vis the supposed IPO and DOJ Replies on FOP uploading in Commons but there was no explanation why it was not filed; in fact, the cited IPO letter contains direct and unequivocal invitation to Email FOP questions, but until now, the IanLopez letter was not emailed; b) the twin legal issues I raised on the i) Locus standi to file Mass Deletion Requests by the i am a smart one and the Principal Accounts of co-conspirator: vis-à-vis the Check-user issue, which as it stands is not ended buy put on hold ii) the very clear commissions of Cybercrime-squatting per Mass Deletion Requests by the Co-conspirators - were unanswered ; I Dissent with reasonable doubt vis-à-vis The very Lis mota or Crux of New FOP discussions is: Get a written Reply from the IPO director and DOJ Secretary towards the Executive Secretary:

Com FOP - "Time and time again WE have emphasized that the Rules of Court should not be interpreted to sacrifice substantial rights of a litigant at the altar of technicalities to the consequent impairment of the sacred principle of justice (Alonzo vs. Villamor, 16 Phil. 315; Case & Nantz vs. Jugo, 77 Phil. 517, 522). WE ruled that the Rules of Court frown upon hair-splitting technicalities that do not square with their liberal tendency and with the ends of justice (Case & Nantz vs. Jugo, supra)." many international professional photgraphers, books, magazines and sites use my photos; they have a right due to Knowledge, Information and Education, to select photos in my Album: Yours Sincerely Judgefloro (talk) 08:09, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

  • A humble but fervent appeal to Commons editors and administrators to look into the following history: please Keep all the photos nominated by this User on Legal grounds a) probable cause for violation of Philippine Cyberstalking and Cybercrime of 2012 b) a reasonable ground to believe that the Mass Deletions by this Nominator will Erase so many files from the Ownership of Commons resulting to irreparable damage and injury not only to Wikimedia Commons foundation but to the Cultural heritage of the Philippines and Tourism, landmarks and interesting points that are created here for the Next Gen and Millennials
  • Argument and Legal discussion with registration of a very strong Legal Objection to the Continuous Mass Deletions of herein Nominator who is not even Armed with IPO or DOJ Replies, Circulars and S.C. Jurisprudence or USA rulings on FOP; it is humbly submitted that the Mass Nominations are reckless and disturbing: here are my Legal reasons to Keep all the photos Nominated for Deletion by herein Nominator:
  • Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Howhontanozaz On hold - Need to discuss results with other CUs. Started on 9 September 2020 "Reason: I have had suspicions on Mrcl lxmna being a sockpuppet, since being a relatively new account but having the experience to do mass DR (typically newbies have no idea what a DR is let alone filing multiple files into a single DR) on Philippines related photographs (mostly on the basis of no FoP) and have a VFC script (which newbies struggle to understand). It has been brought to my attention by User:MGA73 on COM:AN/U that Howhontanozaz has been filing mass DR as well under the very same reasons as Mrcl lxmna. While the spelling used by Mrcl lxmna is sloppy shorthand the reasoning given are similar (Example) to those given by Howhontanozaz (Example). Bidgee (talk) 17:52, 9 September 2020 (UTC) Kindly block this account, its child account Mrcl_lxmna and IP range of 120.29.109.24 for reckless DRs. --exec8 (talk) 21:49, 9 September 2020 (UTC) User:Exec8 This is a data gathering exercise and checks will be run (or not run) based on actual evidence provided and our own assessment of its (de)merits. : Conclusion: On hold only but not dismissed;
  • Other editors or Administrators may re-nominate these subject photos in the future, once the IPO and DOJ Secretary issues Rulings on my 2 Letters;
  • Local government property and National Government properties are outside the scope for Copyright Law for it is the Local Government Code of 1991 that applies vis-à-vis RA 3019 Graft Law: DE MINIMIS: a legal bars to the Deletion of these photos
  •  Keep Because the photos Historical National Treasures or at the very least, DE MINIS so to speak, in Philippine Law and Jurisprudence; and the photos are part of Tourist attractions or Heritage of the Local or National Government and the Tourism Office of the Philippines, including the Museum of Political Arts etc. granted me express permissions to take Tourist and interesting points-to-point angular photos, for the pictures uploaded are for their political advantages in the coming election, being hosted for free in a great encyclopedia; hence DE MINIS in Commons and Philippine Copyright - Intellectual property Law; No copyright exists in them;
  • I contradict argument that artists or sculptors and architects did not transfer their rights to the Administrator or owner of all these, like Rizal Park Administration; for how can the Government build build build any property without owning the accessories; this is a legal absurdity; accessory including all moral and absolute rights are ipso facto transferred to the Government or its agencies when it is the principal Owner in Fee simple or title holder;
  • In support of my stance, opposition to the deletion and inputs, I am respectfully submitting to the editors and Commons administrators my legal treatise on the matter as I copy paste and discuss Strong Evidence against the Smart One - Nominator of Mass Deletion Requests, to wit:
  • I already talked with the IPO lawyers and they told me that they agree with my Cited Sycip Salazar secondary authorities that all your Mass Deletions are covered by Trifles or De Minimis, meaning Copyright Law does not prohibit Uploading in Commons on FOP; your position has no leg to stand while my OBJECTIONS to your Mass Deletions are supported not only by a) USA Jurisprudence b) very learned treatises of a Top Law Firm like Sycip Salazar, c) verbal replies to my queries by IPO lawyers and d) tons of Legal Discussions on the Matter; an editor here cannot just say this or that is Copyright law; I cited Statutory Construction and Legal Maxim rules, while you just copy paste the Law; nobody can say this is the meaning of the Copyright law without laying the predicate; even if there is no square ruling from the Supreme Court on FOP uploading, still, the secondary authorities and Learned lawyer's writings I quoted suffice to say that all your Mass Deletions have no leg to stand: I await the IPO and its Bureau on a Specific Ruling backing the verbal replies they gave to me and or DOJ Secretary's Opinion which is over and above the IPO's would be rulings; In Time, all our deleted photos would be undeleted, since they are just in the files of Commons;

  • Q. What are the elements of the 2012 CybercrIme vis-à-vis Commons Mass Deletions in my Talk page? A. they are: from hacking to attacks online a) using a john or jane doe or anonymous account b) hiding the identity by use of such alternate accounts c) via a habit, scheme or design d) to attempt to delete, erase or in any manner take meta or mass date like photos from any internet site or legitimate forum, device or even media like Commons, Wikipedia, Flickr, phot bucket, Facebook; vide: SECTION 1 (h) Without right refers to either: (i) conduct undertaken without or in excess of authority; or (ii) conduct not covered by established legal defenses, excuses, court orders, justifications, or relevant principles under the law. • My Legal Challenge to the herein Nominator of Mass Deletions Requests: why don't you email the IPO Director or Bureau of Copyright Head, as I did before (letters to IPO Director and Directress) or the DOJ Secretary and submit your questions - Deletion requests here in Commons with specifics for Ruling, Reply and Opinion pending or awaiting a S.C. Comprehensive history of edits of my Talk pages by User:JWilz12345 starting with 3 December 2017 Request to me to take Photos

@Judgefloro: I've made major edits at Balete Drive's enwiki and tlwiki pages. I also changed its imgs at en:List of roads in Metro Manila and en:List of haunted locations in the Philippines. Thank you for the photos of this avenue! :) May you continue to contribute high-quality photos of various and important parts of Luzon for Wikipedia, Commons, and the people of the Philippines and the world! :) JWilz12345 (talk) 13:00, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

And, many thanks for the photos! It's a great help since most of the available photos of under-construction Skyway Stage 3 are way back to around mid-2018 at most recent. Again, I'll be looking forward for your additional photos.JWilz12345 (talk) 09:04, 19 September 2019 (UTC) :-) @Judgefloro: I think they wouldn't allow it since the construction is ongoing (not to mention the safety/ease of construction mobility issues). • The 2020 Revised Rules of Procedure for Intellectual Property Rights Cases to Take Effect on November 16, 2020 In revising the 2020 IPR Rules, the salient features of the 2019 Amendments to the Revised Rules of Civil Procedure were integrated therein. For instance, the 2020 IPR Rules now require the complaint and the answer thereto to include the evidence in support thereof. The answer shall likewise be filed within thirty (30) calendar days from service of summons, while the answer to counterclaims or cross-claims shall be filed and served within fifteen (15) calendar days from service of the answer in which they are pleaded. Replies are no longer prohibited for as long as the answer includes an actionable document. The 2020 IPR Rules also incorporate the amended provision on substituted service of summons. Extraterritorial service of summons as provided for in international conventions to which the Philippines is a party shall also be allowed. In keeping with the language of the 2019 Amendments to the Revised Rules of Civil Procedure, the 2020 IPR Rules are also now gender-sensitive.

Judgefloro's seemingly ad hominem inputs in DRs

  • Mirrored reply. @Judgefloro: look back at the Section 172.2 of the Republic Act No. 8293.: Works are protected by the sole fact of their creation, irrespective of their mode or form of expression, as well as of their content, quality and purpose. While registration still exists, it only helps to give additional benefits to the copyright holders like architects, sculptors or their heirs, but copyright protection itself already starts from the moment of creation, not from the time of optional registration. Every object here in the Philippines containing substantial artistic style are copyrighted automatically after their creation, publication, erection, and/or unveiling. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 10:11, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Conclusion : There is no Ad Hominem Input here; Reasons and Examination of the Wordings

  • I don't know if ANU is a right venue for this, and I am already used to his attacks, but for this time he made a problematic comment ("a) Your opinion - like that of my b) fish vendor which had tons of wisdom not only in Fish but in Commerce, of my c) Trike Driver who is expert in Transportation - may be believed by the onlookers or Voters in Elections Periods; but without Citation of Philippine Jurisprudence, without basing you argument on any USA or Federal ruling, and worst, without supporting your above Repeated opinions-comments-mirror replies, whatever you may term them - is not worth a Lawyer's salt, or here, a Commons Community Policy on keeping or deleting; rest assured that if you are believe, I never filed any Undeletions, for I know my limitations in time and effort; I would rather go inside the DOJ, the IPO and Bureau of Copyright for Official Statements, PROMISE", example Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with Contemporary sculpture Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center). This despite IPOPHL-BCRR's comment at the online dialogue that copyright laws are statutory rights, and provisions like FOP cannot be made into existence by just legal studies, interpretations, etc.. (contray to what Judgefloro claims). Such provisions must be indicated and defined. And to sum up, photographers must obtain free license from the architects, sculptors, etc.., while the bill to amend the copyright is still pending at Congress. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 11:43, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Someone should give him a notice and to remind him that while no FOP status still apply, authorization for a free licensing from the copyright holders (the architects/sculptors/their heirs) is still required. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 13:23, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
  • The has reference to My Fish vendor refers to the Impact of COVID-19 to Market Vendors; very few survived the Restrictions and most of them suffered poverty; b) the reference to my Trike Driver is the Transport crisis due to the Pandemic; most of them earned only 20% compared to Pre-COVID;

@Jeff G.: (I moved your reply to a brand new section here) Ok. I understand. Sorry again. Philippine FOP is actually stressful to me. I actually hate seeing these deleted, but "my hands are tied" because I must comply with the longstanding policies here. I hope that Wikimedia Foundation will finally agree to initiate a dialogue with IPOPHL on freedom of panorama. Because that is what IPOPHL indicated in their reply to an email sent by Higad Rail Fan in November 2020. This dialogue may be helpful in pushing for the inclusion of FOP in the approved amendment to R.A. 8293, because the proposed amendment, House Bill No. 8062, still has no FOP provision. The exceptions are now at Chapter VII, Sections 159.1–165.3. Hopefully WMF agrees to the WMF–IPOPHL dialogue. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 06:02, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Much too long for any reasonable person to wade through

  • The above is much too long for any reasonable person to wade through. Could the participants in the dispute each summarize what they have to say in 1000 words or fewer? I'm not saying to remove the detail, but this is a lengthy disquisition with no executive summary.
  • Would people please refrain from describing their personal view as a "conclusion"? Nothing here is concluded until there is a consensus, which clearly there is not.
  • If there is a specific help request here, would someone state it succinctly?

@Jmabel: Good evening from hereat Philippines ; thanks for you message and kindness; allow me to state with all due respect that the Mass Deletions of JWilz12345 in my Talk Pages are almost daily and there is a very long debate going on; if you notice, JWilz12345 filed hereat a very long Response; thus I am obliged to answer them point by point; it took me about 7 hours to write via research the Introduction Reply and not it took me 5 hours to write the Rejoinder; rest assured that when I have time I will file and Executive Summary Judgefloro (talk) 09:54, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I responded very long because of his very loooooong response in his talk page that he linked it here.

To @Judgefloro: , you are making things complicated. All deletion requests can be launched by anyone, and it is contrary to your claim that only lawyers can file such requests. Examine all deletion requests to Burj Khalifa and other structures from no FOP countries. Not all who started the DR's are made by lawyers.
Those past discussions, even getting obsolete threads from my talk page, that you copy-pasted as your evidences? These are already irrelevant ever since the Feb. 10, 2021 IPOPHL-BCRR dialogue, which confirmed two things: a) that Philippine FOP will soon be introduced here, and b) the current no FOP status prevails (and a need for free license from the copyright holders still applies). And those IPOPHL-BCRR people in that dialogue are lawyers.
With regards to "reaching out to ianlopez115", that is no longer relevant since IPOPHL-BCRR's legal opinion in the dialogue. That also applies to your request for legal opinions and interpretations. How can these be made if FOP is nonexistent in the law in the first place (acc. to IPOPHL-BCRR)?
Please read thoroughly both User talk:Clindberg/archives 10#About Judgefloro's claim of "extinctive prescription" for RA 8293 (where I asked Clindberg about your claim of prescriptive extinction) and Commons talk:Copyright rules by territory/Philippines#Freedom of panorama for religious works and properties (about religious works and properties, where the lawyer-admin Aymatth2 eventually said that canon laws do not override civil laws, and the law of the deed only applies to physical ownership. And you always equate copyright with physical ownership despite that it's not so, as admins regularly say at COM:UNDEL. Even in one DR, regarding "Ang Nuno ng Sining" Angono, Rizal, Howhontanozaz forwarded a reply from Angono Cultural Heritage Office that the copyright is still held by sculptor Lito Balagtas, and as he died last year, the office said that copyright is passed to his heirs. This contradicts your claim that the Local Government Code has the power to transfer copyright. No, it is only relevant to physical possession. The government and the public owns People Power Monument, but Castrillo's heirs own the copyright.
Again, my only one request is for you to contact the copyright holders and ask their permissions for free licensing of your images, via COM:OTRS correspondence. It's very simple, you're just complicating things. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 10:05, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Wait, I should have posted this response at COM:ANU where the thread began. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 10:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

@Judgefloro and JWilz12345: We're getting another verbose discussion here, and at least one of you taking this as further opportunity to address the other rather than to summarize their own view. This is not helping. Let me set up subheads or you, please fill in with an executive summary and nothing else. - Jmabel ! talk 14:01, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Executive summary by User:Judgefloro

Executive summary by User:JWilz12345

  • Jmabel Hopefully this is concise. The entire thing stemmed from some of my Phil. FOP/DW-related deletion requests (constructive with concise details, not really destructive). DW, like copyrighted billboards, wax figures inside malls, etc., such as this. The details are clear, and based on current FOP status (not OK confirmed by IPOPHL-BCRR in the Feb. 10, 2021 dialogue), and while FOP provision is now underway in the Congress in the proposed amendment bill, current rules of obtaining permission from the architects/artists/etc. still apply according to IPOPHL-BCRR lawyers. This also applies to photos already hosted here.
  • Instead of attempting to contact the copyright holders via COM:OTRS, Judgefloro resorted to very loooong "treatises" which are incoherent to the DRs and using matters not relevant to Commons (the 2020 rules and procedures, the "4-year extinctive prescription" which has since been countered by Clindberg when I asked him about that way back November 2020, etc.). He seems to perpetuate the claims like deprivation of automatic copyright protection of the works from the moment of creation, claim on physical possession = copyright, and others.
  • He even gave some remarks such as "Your opinion - like that of my b) fish vendor which had tons of wisdom not only in Fish but in Commerce, of my c) Trike Driver who is expert in Transportation - may be believed by the onlookers or Voters in Elections Periods;...." (See the bottom of this DR).
  • In some of his various "treatises", he remarked about IPOPHL people: "if they will maintain wrong legal Opinions, then I reserve my Lawyer's Judge's Right to question them individually with the Ombudsman regarding Gross Ignorance of the Law or possible Disbarment in the IBP Office."

This sprang up Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Judgefloro's seemingly ad hominem inputs in DRs (which I should have titled "Judgefloro's seemingly disruptive inputs in DRs"). Eventually he made a very looooooong response on his talk page (User talk:Judgefloro#Introduction) and he linked it to the ANU page. I was forced to respond it in a lengthy way on the ANU page. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 14:34, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Would it be fair to summarize that as "Judgefloro is claiming that certain images are allowable under Freedom of Panorama (FOP) (or at times, extinction of copyright) in the Philippines, but he is assuming legal force for things that are not, or at least are not yet, law. Under current law, FOP in the Philippines is quite strict; further, his arguments on the basis of extinction of copyright do not hold water; and therefore all, or nearly all, of the images he is defending need to be deleted"? Or have I misunderstood you? - Jmabel ! talk 14:59, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
    • @Jmabel: under current FOP status as confirmed by IPOPHL-BCRR, yes (at the very least nearly all), unless he obtains permission and authorization of his use of free licensing on his images from the copyright holders. (Perhaps this means COM:OTRS method). Actually, the message is supposed to be:
Judgefloro is claiming that certain images are allowable under Freedom of Panorama (FOP) (or at times, prescriptive extinction of copyright) in the Philippines, but he is assuming legal force for things that are not, or at least are not yet, law. Under current law, FOP in the Philippines is nonexistent; further, his arguments on the basis of extinction of copyright do not hold water; and therefore, nearly all or majority of the images he is defending may need to go, unless he obtains permission and authorization of his use of free licensing on his images from the copyright holders. The current FOP status is in accordance with the statement of IPOPHL-BCRR in the Feb. 10, 2021 dialogue.
