The song “Dig It” from Holes was written by cast members Byron Cotton (‘Armpit’), Brenden Jefferson ('X-Ray’), Max Kasch ('Zigzag’), Shia LaBeouf (Stanley 'Caveman’), and Khleo Thomas (Hector 'Zero’) on set during their downtime. After some additional tweaking from Mickey Petralia, Michael Fitzpatrick, and Doug E. Fresh, the boys recorded the song for the film. They are credited as “The D-Tent Boys”, after the tent their characters were in in the film.

Both the novel and the movie Holes mention that Clyde “Sweet Feet” Livingston had hit four triples in one baseball game. In fact, the MLB record for triples in a game is only three.

Louis Sachar, the author of the novel Holes, not only wrote the screenplay for the film version, but had a cameo in it. He appears as Mr. Collingwood, the bald man that Sam sells onion juice to. Sachar’s wife and daughter also appear in the scene with him. 

The “yellow spotted lizards” mentioned in the movie Holes do not actually exist. There are only two venomous lizards in North America: the Gila monster, which lives in the American Southwest, and the Mexican beaded lizard, which lives in northern Mexico.
The animals shown in the movie are in fact Bearded dragons, painted with a non-toxic children’s finger paint and with CGI fangs.
