Looking on Youtube for an early 1970s car commercial.

edit

A few months ago, I watched a car commercial from 1970-1974 (likely 1972) about a long car with 4 headlights (a pair of double-headlights.)

The announcer is first seen in an Apollo capsule narrating about the cutting edge technology of the time used in the day's spaceships.

Then he climbs out of the capsule and talks about the car, parked right outside. It was a long car, but I forgot its make & model. Then he mentioned that the Apollo spacecraft made a 500,000-mile round trip and that the car won't last for 500,000 miles, then said, as the quote goes, "But who wants to keep a car for 500,000 miles??" On the video's comments, one of them remarks about the 500,000 mile quote, "...PEOPLE DO!" Can you find the video for me? --70.179.175.240 03:10, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello?? Someone here must know. --70.179.175.240 01:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This site is supposed to be the 9th-popular site on the web, yet there isn't enough traffic to have someone that knows what I'm talking about and what to look for? --70.179.175.240 09:48, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't recall ever seeing that ad, but I will look some for you. ... I do remember around the same time another ad comparing a car to the Apollo spacecraft: A VW Beetle and an Apollo Lunar Module were both shown with the caption, "It's ugly, but it gets you there." — Michael J 12:40, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt it. That's a family show. But if you like to provide links to those pics we'll check them out for you.--Shantavira|feed me 18:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Xena once had a "wardrobe malfunction", but what would you expect from somebody named Lucy Lawless ? StuRat 01:01, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, Lucy Lawless has a "wardrobe malfunction" while singing the National Anthem at, if I remember correctly, a hockey game. Her patriotic corset-style outfit wasn't designed for her to punch her fist up into the air. As for nudity on the television show - it was a television show. Most countries do not allow nudity on broadcast television, so there was no nudity in the show. However, it is a popular past time for juveniles (and perhaps some adults) to digitally alter or cut/paste pictures to imagine what it would be like if there was some nudity. In other words, most of the nude shots of celebrities on the Internet are fake. -- Kainaw(what?) 01:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That being said, I would imagine that the show's producers could get away with some implied nudity. Like a woman coming out of the water, shown from the waist up, with the camera showing her from the back. Her back and shoulders would be bare but her breasts would not be shown. Shows have been doing similar things for years. For instance, there was an episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye made a bet that he could walk from his tent to the mess tent naked and nobody would notice. He was shown "naked" while various objects were used to obscure the camera's view of his crotch. Dismas|(talk) 02:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was an episode of Xena where Renée O'Connor stripped off her shirt and was seen wearing a bra. (image here) Michael J 12:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Season 3, episode 17 of Xena, when Renee is on fire from one of her trials, before the last flames go out, there is a frame or 2 of her naked butt up. Could be a stand in, but she has a nice butt!

^^^^ Yes it was a double. If you don't see their face, it's not them. Both Renee and Lucy had a no nudity clause in their Xena contracts. All nudity was implied, and whatever is seen was done by body doubles in flesh coloured outfits or pasties etc.

history of albums for storing swap cards

edit

What types of storage albums have been used for swap card collecting between 1900 and 2000? Collecting swap cards was a popular pass -time during the past 100 years, with a peak during the 1950s and 60s. I have seen a variety of paper albums with varying designs on the covers, and styles for setting the cards in, but I don't know which relate to which times.

Titles of two movies

edit

I'm trying to find the titles of two movies that were shown on SBS TV in the late 80s or early 90s, definitely pre 1993, although of course they may have been repeated since.

The first is a German film. A van pulls up in the middle of Munich(?) on a Sunday morning, and out steps a man in a radiation suit. He sets up some barriers with radioactive signs attached and unloads a large device. This is proven to be a nuclear bomb, which he will detonate unless his demands are met. He has a remote control, into which he has to key in a sequence of numbers, which signals the bomb to wait for a random time before it detonates. He must signal the bomb before this time has elapsed, and he does so at intervals during the film. In the climax, he is in a hotel room, handcuffed to a radiator, talking to his brother. They are watching TV, which shows government officials saying they will comply with his demands, which I think was total disarmament. In reality, they are evacuating the city and the broadcast is faked. He is left alone in an empty city.

The second film is French I think, but I don't remember the plot. It might be about a robbery. The film featured a large number of Porsche sports cars driving around the streets of Paris. In one very spectacular scene that are whizzing past the Arc de Triomphe.

Does anyone recognise these movies? --TrogWoolley 12:08, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Second sounds like it might be the original Taxi although it's 1998. The first I have no idea. Hope this helps - EstoyAquí(tce) 12:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
