Automated edit count?
Would anyone know if it's possible to automate the edit count figure on my user page? Sandcat555 (talk) 03:50, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Sandcat555 If you activate the gadget navigation popups then one of the things you get when you hover over another user's name (or your own) is information including edit count. That's all I need to see you are currently at 765 edits. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:29, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Help with NPS sources
Hello,
NPS nomination forms have a section for "representation in existing surveys," as seen here on the bottom of the first page. What does this mean? Does it have something to do with a broader area-wide geographic survey, or a more specific historical site survey? Thanks so much!

Signature
Hello, I'm trying to make my signature but it can't be fixed. Here's what my signature should look like: Garudam Talk!
But as you can see it's currently messed. Please someone tell me how it can be fixed? And what error I'm making in this syntax: <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman;"><span style="color:black">Garudam</span><span style="color: gray;">Talk!</span> (talk) 12:23, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Garudam: Select "Treat the above as wiki markup" below the signature field. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:53, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter I did exactly but it shows some syntax error like "span" <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman;"><span style="color:black">Garudam</span><span style="color: gray;">Talk!</span> (talk) 12:54, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

as the message should say. Adding them should work:<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="color: black;">Garudam</span></span> <span style="color: gray;">Talk!</span>

Margaret Greville
There are two pages about Margaret Greville. I am a Research Historian - as a Volunteer at Polesden Lacey. I have written a book also which is the Maggie Greville Story. I have researched for more than thirteen years the history of Maggie Greville, her father William McEwan and Polesden Lacey. I wish to change the existing article totally. It contains misinformation. It is not correct. I have a huge number of references to prove my research. How can I remove the existing article and provide a new article which tells the truth, and is far more interesting? 13truthknown (talk) 14:11, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @13truthknown You do not start a new article, you improve the existing one, one bit at a time. A WP-article on any subject is meant to be a summary of reliable sources (WP:RS) on that subject, and if you wish to make edits that can "stick", you need to understand what sources are considered reliable around here, and guidance like WP:SELFCITE. You need to know how to add references correctly in the WP-environment, this is essential, WP:TUTORIAL has a start on that.
- My suggestion is: start small. Make a few edits, see what happens, then make a few more. If other editors react, WP:COMMUNICATE. Do not throw out existing sources in favor of your book. If your book is WP:SELFPUB, don't use it as a source at all. Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:55, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Btw, if you meant there are two WP-articles about Margaret Greville, which is the other one, please? That might need fixing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:57, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @13truthknown Incidentally, Wikipedia doesn't claim to give readers the truth (see that link). Instead, by policy, we ensure that facts in our articles can be verified from the sources we quote. The article on Margaret Greville was first created in 2007 and has been improved incrementally by many editors since then, which is why you should follow Gråbergs Gråa Sång's advice. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:08, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- @13truthknown, as has already been said, a self-written book, particularly if self-published or published by a vanity press is never going to be an acceptable source. - @Lokkyboy: You have apparently encountered a feature specific to the Android app: mw:Wikimedia Apps/Team/Android/AppEditorTasks#Suggested Edits 3.0 - Improved Suggested Edits Homescreen and Feature Pausing (released 25 November 2019). I had not heard about it before and don't know what triggered it. The only edits at Special:Contributions/Lokkyboy with the "Reverted" tag are four edits in April and May 2022. I don't know whether the feature looks back so far when you have few edits since then. I suggest you just try again after December 1 if you want to use suggested edits. You are free to edit in other ways, e.g. finding tasks at Wikipedia:Community portal#Help out. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:54, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Mobile app logout issue
I'm using am Android phone, using dark mode for the Wikipedia app. On the mobile app, usually when I load talk pages, they render as a white mode web page, and I'll be logged out. Sometimes I can work around it, but both the work around and the error aren't consistent.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 16:05, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think the error occurs if I directly open the talk page link - if I navigate there from the article/Wikipedia space via the drop down, then it works fine and I'm not logged out.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 16:50, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Indigenous identity friad
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hello I have attempted to go through the proper channels in wiki. A profile is being inaccurately listed as indigenous for a person who has no indigenous ancestry. This type of misinformation is a form of colonial erasure and upholds racism. I have opened what I hope would be a dialogue about it, as an indigenous person myself this is a very important issue to me but instead of being heard with understanding the person in the chat and who is exclusively modifying this wiki page is arguing with me and gaslighting my valid concerns. Can somebody who is not bias please come be apart of this discussion and hear out why they change is necessary and should be protected. This is the dialogue. Talk:Jani Lauzon#Identity Fraud 135.12.162.209 (talk) 17:01, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- I see, and (forgive me if I misread this) it's a case of pretending to be indigenous when, apparently and accordingly, she's not. This is backed by reliable sources, right? You may, if necessary, bring this to the Biographies of living persons Noticeboard. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 17:06, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- It should be noted that [2] doesn't provide evidence supporting the conclusion that Lauzon is not Indigenous. I did cite it in the article as evidence that her identity has been called into question, but since the evidence isn't shown in the report like it is for other reporting on "Pretendians", I think accepting it as fact enough to remove "Metis" from the lede would fall foul of WP:GRAPEVINE. AceSevenFive (talk) 18:09, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- It seems to me that you claim to have actual, reliable evidence that she isn't indigenous. Yet you refuse to provide it, citing privacy issues. No one's going to force you to reveal it, but unless you do, you cannot reasonably expect us to just take your word for it. TheLegendofGanon (talk) 09:32, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Sandbox to Draft namespace
Hi, I have a draft about Dodge Woodall in my sandbox: Sandbox.
Could someone help move it to the Draft namespace with the title `Draft:Dodge Woodall`?
I don’t meet the auto confirmed requirements yet (4 days old, 10 edits), and I need to publish this ASAP.
Thank you! Josh Haines (talk) 18:25, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Josh Haines If you add the template User sandbox to the top of your sandbox, it will give you a link which will allow you to submit the draft directly for review. There is no need to move it. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:29, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Josh Haines -- a few things on this topic. Before moving it over, please take some time to review WP:BLP as this article still has some problems that should be addressed before you bring more attention to it, and it might subsequently be speedily deleted. The second is to take a moment to look at WP:PAID as it looks like (based on your username) you might have a financial relationship with Woodall. Creating such articles are not prohibited, but they can be problematic for people who do not understand the processes involved. TiggerJay (talk) 18:55, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for your feedback, could you please notify me as to how to cater to the things you've just told me?
- What would you recommend changing quickly to avoid deletion? Josh Haines (talk) 19:05, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- You might start by removing bold text, overly promotional language, and the rather spammy links. You also need to find better sources. See WP:BLP. Shantavira|feed me 19:24, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- What I would recommend is that you take a moment and click on those blue links that start with WP listed above. Read through those and apply as appropriate. TiggerJay (talk) 22:21, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Cewal21: Hi, Christine. Can you provide a list of those bad links? The ones you added yourself have been reverted, and a cursory look at all of the links to Christine Walters appear to be for the Australian football player. -Arch dude (talk) 15:31, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
noindex tag found for page, despite no flags/banners
Hello, I have recently published a page under the following link: Matatia Foa'i and it was approved by Wikipedia and published onto the main namespace. The page appears in Wikipedia's internal search results and does not have any visible flags, banners, or issues that I can identify. However, when I checked the source code, I found a noindex tag (<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow">), which prevents the page from being indexed by search engines like Google. If possible, i would really appreciate knowing why the noindex tag has been applied to this page and what steps I can take to have the tag removed so the page can be indexed. The page is based on reliable and independent sources and meets the notability guidelines to the best of my knowledge. Could someone help me determine why this is happening and how I could resolve it? Thank you kindly for your assistance! Anitanour (talk) 04:11, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Citation for an edit
I would like to add the name of a distant relative to the Wiki page "Volga Germans", section entitled "Notable people of Volga German descent". This person already has a Wikipedia page, but his name is not on this list. I know only from family oral history that he belongs on this list, his grandfather and my great-grandfather were brothers who emigrated together from Saratov, Russia to Canada in 1907. I have seen their arrival record on the Ancestry website. Other than that, I do not have any official sources I can cite. Is this sufficient citation? kcmeowski (talk) 05:00, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- It is helpful that the person you want to add already has an article on Wikipedia, however we still rely upon reliable sources to establish these sorts of inclusions. TiggerJay (talk) 05:06, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- In other words, Kcmeowski, we need a reference to a reliable published source that verifies that your relative was a Volga German. Unpublished family oral history is simply not adequate. Cullen328 (talk) 07:59, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

why my edits are not visible on the page??
I recently visit the capcut wikipedia page and there I edited the external link and add the relavent link which was https://capcetapk.com/slow-motion-walk-capcut-template/. But the edit is not updated and showing the previous link. Cletawindler (talk) 09:18, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Looking at the article edit history(click "View History" at the top) your edit was removed. The editor that did so felt that it was vandalism- I suggest you post on the article talk page to explain the reason for your edit. 331dot (talk) 09:21, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Even if that edit were not a good one, it is [{WP:NOTVANDAL|not vandalism]] and User:Beachweak should not have referred to it as such. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:38, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm the editor who undid the edit. At the time this edit looked like vandalism, but obviously it was not and I apologise for jumping the gun. For external links, it's best to consult (WP:ELNO, WP:ELMAYBE and WP:ELYES) in order to ensure future links you add are constructive and contain verifiable research. But, once again, I apologise. Use of surname vs maiden name in article body
I’m in a disagreement with another editor at Jennifer Carroll MacNeill (née Carroll) regarding the use of her maiden name in the Early Life section. The other editor used Carroll, citing Hillary Clinton, where Rodham is used for events before her marriage to Bill Clinton. I don't like that inconsistent use of Clinton either, but I assume the reason is that she was notable as Hillary Rodham (due to the size of that article's talk page, I haven’t been able to confirm this) Carroll MacNeill however seems to just be notable under her married name, so I believe that should be used consistently.
It looks like that sort of consistency is mostly noted with things gendered pronouns rather than surnames. Is there something in the MOS that I'm missing, or is there not really a specific rule or suggestion for this kind of scenario? LaffyTaffer (talk) 20:37, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Why not have a look at MOS:NAME? 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 20:40, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I must be missing something there, because I'm only seeing guidelines for the initial mention in the lead, not for how a subject is referred to later on. Even MOS:SURNAME doesn't seem to address things like maiden names as far as I can tell. LaffyTaffer (talk) 20:52, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

- Another editor has removed the subject's surname entirely from that section to avoid the disagreement, however I'm still interested to know if there's a guideline to this. I've just looked at Muhammad Ali and seen that he's referred to as Clay for events from before his name change, so I'm very likely wrong here(I expected as much which is why I'm here rather than the article's talk page), however it seems strange to not talk about article subjects using a consistent name throughout, and I'd rather not use WP:OTHERSTUFF as the sole justification. LaffyTaffer (talk) 21:33, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- There's no reason to be consistent about a subject's name, when they themselves changed it. Before she changed her name, she was born and grew up as Jennifer Carroll, so she should be referred to by that name. Only after she became Jennifer Carroll MacNeill should she be referred to as MacNeill. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:05, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Then I suppose then this just boils down to a personal preference of mine that's coloured by related but irrelevant guidelines like MOS:GID. I don't like it, but there seems to be a precedent to alternate between names as needed. Thanks. LaffyTaffer (talk) 22:31, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

removing noindex tag from article
Hi folks! I recently wrote an article about an academic and addressed some sourcing and notability concerns (and remove the templates). Can the article be reviewed and the noindex tag removed? Here's the page: Jacqueline Klopp Greatest125 (talk) 02:52, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Kind of urgent
I just posted a question for the first of all the candidates over at the Arb Committee site, and — because I rarely use the Source Editor — ran into trouble right away. I think the candidate I was writing to was the last one on the list, Krakatoa Katie.
At any rate, my message didn't get into a box — there are some stray numbers on the first and last paragraph — and there's an apostrophe just before the first character of the italicized paragraph. I've come here for help rather than writing the election coordinators because it didn't seem they were actually first responders.
I'm not sure that my question is even visible to others because it didn't go into a box. But if it is visible, it's in bad shape. And I'd really like to post it to all the candidates. TIA (thanks in advance) Augnablik (talk) 05:55, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Augnablik, I don't see your name in the edit history of Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2024/Candidates/KrakatoaKatie/Questions. Can you give a link to where you see the problem? Maproom (talk) 08:08, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Maproom, now that I went back to that location I see that the candidate to whom I posted was CaptainEek, not Krakatoa Katie. The first candidate on the list, not the last one. And my message looks a little more correctly formatted than it did earlier. Perhaps someone involved with the election stepped in to make the fix, though there is still a stray number 1 at the beginning of the message and no box. Below is the address. Thanks for helping!

106.244.204.202 (talk) 09:07, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
