Petitions and consultations
Petitions
There are two different types of petitions available to citizens in the EU who wish to address a particular problem or concern.
Petitioning the European Parliament
The European Parliament offers EU citizens the opportunity to make a request or a complaint concerning an issue of public or private concern via a petition. These petitions can be be used to ask the European Parliament to raise awareness of an infringement of European citizens' rights, or to take a position on a particular issue.

EU citizens can also launch a petition to ask the European Commission to propose a new law. Called a European Citizens' Initiative, this type of petition requires the collection of at least 1 million signatures.

Consultations
The European Commission offers citizens in the EU a chance to give feedback on laws and policies that are currently in development. For any given law or policy open for consultation on the Have Your Say platform, you can submit your comments in any of the 24 official languages of the EU. You can also view the feedback of others. The Commission then analyses all feedback received.
