One thing I really love is when a book exceeds my expectations. I didn't really expect to like this story nearly as much as I did. For one, reunited lovers is one of my least favorite themes. I hate the baggage of a broken relationship going into a romantic novel. Also, I wasn't too keen on Shade for his womanizing ways, and how females/women didn't seem to be that important to him. Just objects to be used and abused. This is a major pet peeve of mine.

I am happy to say that I was proven wrong about Shade. He was a very complex character that I grew to love fairly early into the book. He had depth that really appealed to me. At heart, he loved women, as it was part of his nature, from his mother's side and rearing. As a seminus or incubus demon, through his father's side, he was compelled by his nature to take any woman who wanted him, to satisfy her sexual needs, and his in the process. Although it probably sounds like a dream come true at face value, in my mind I can't help but think, what a horrible deal that must be. In some ways like a sex addiction. Probably worse because Shade will die without having sex. As his s'genesis, the last stage of sexual maturity comes, it will only get worse. And if he is not mated, he will become a demon who is crazed by his desire to mate any female he comes in contact with, willing or not. He will wreak havoc on females all around him.

In essence, Shade cannot say no to his nature or what women want from him. And some of those women/females wanted some very dark, awful things. Shade had a gift given to him by his Umber demon mother, the gift to see darkness in a person and to draw it out and heal that person. As a seminus demon, he utilizes this gift during sex. The nasty, ugly kind of torture sex that I certainly want no part of. The females come out of it healed by having their worst emotions and regrets taken way, giving them the ultimate orgasm that last forever, a pure conscience. Thankfully, Ms. Ione does not go into detail, but this fact about Shade's past does play into his future.

Shade does wrong Runa. But he cannot help doing it. It is his nature, but also his fears about the maluncoeur, or curse put on him as a younger demon. If he falls in love, he will suffer a shadow existence of thirst, loneliness, and unslaked sexual desire. As such, falling in love is not on his plate. So when he finds himself falling too deeply for Runa, he pushes her away. When she finds him with two females doing the deed, she breaks it off with him. Only to be attacked by a werewolf minutes later, and left for dead.

They meet again at the beginning of this book. And Runa is very different. Hard where she was once soft. Full of confidence where she was shy and retiring before. Although Shade was attracted to her softness (as reminders of his mother and sisters who are of a race of demons who are gentle homemakers), he is even more attracted to her now. And it turns out that Runa has become a werewolf.

Their reunion is not under good circumstances, as they have been imprisoned by Ghouls, demons who harvest organs from other demons and sell them on the black market. Things only get worse, as Shade finds out that he has a very personal relationship with the leader, and the leader hates him and wants to kill him and his other two brothers.

Runa and Shade reconnect and have to deal with the ugliness of their pasts, and due the magical machinations of their enemy, they end up mated. For Shade, the timebomb starts ticking down, because he is unable to keep an emotional distance from the female he is mated to.

As the story continues, we see this couple, forced to spend time together due to their mating bond, realize they are soulmates. Both have hidden wounds that have affected their lives and how they relate to others. Runa has a guilt that she cannot rid herself of, and presses Wraith to use his talent to get rid of it. But Wraith hates that ability and would never do that to a woman who is so precious to him. I was really glad that this book doesn't have a lot of bondage/torture stuff going on. I am not a fan of BDSM, so I really don't want to see a lot of that, especially in a mainstream romance. I think Ione handled it very well, because I was afraid that it would go there. Fortunately, the way that the scenes with Shade dealing with his gift and Runa's need to have her darkness extracted were written showed a deft handling that didn't turn my stomach and ruin this book for me. It showed how much Shade loved her, and his determination to sacrifice himself for her out of love.

This is a complex, intense story. Ione's worldbuilding is incredible. I haven't read a book that creates such a multilayered world of demonarchy. These demons aren't the silly demons you can dismiss like some of the ones on Buffy. There is a whole spectrum, some that are good, some that are not so bad, and some that are really, really bad. And there's not only demons in this world, but faery, and other creatures. There's even fallen angels (I love stuff with angels). I appreciated the idea of the Underworld General Hospital that treats demonkind. It's the medical show-lover in me. This book is like Trauma Life in the ER meets Angel. And what a great combination.

I liked the information about the bond between a werewolf and her sire. It's a profound bond that has some pretty serious consequences. And Runa has to deal with some aspects of being a werewolf that make her very dangerous to others, and restrict and affect how she can live her life. Her werewolf nature can overcome her thoughts and conscious desires, and this comes into play as well.

We get to visit with Shade's brother Eidolon, who's now happily mated to Tayla, his other brother Wraith, who is clearly on the path to self-destruction and hanging by a thread, and see the developing relationship between Gemella (Tayla's half-sister and a doctor), and the human ex-Aegis leader, Kynan, who is still heartbroken from his wife's betrayal. I just loved seeing more about Kynan. In the last book, I didn't think I'd be that interested in him and Gemella, but this book has gotten me very interested indeed. Kynan is such a good guy (and you get some inkling as to why he is such a good person that I am sure will unfold further in the forthcoming books). Gemella is externally hardcore goth, but she has a soft heart and is deeply in love with Kynan, although she knows she doesn't have a chance at him, being a demon. Their relationship has some poignant parts that got to this softie.

This book was so enjoyable and involved me emotionally. It was clear from the beginning that Ms. Ione put a lot of thought and effort in this series, and this book really shows it and her talent as an author. That's what I look for in a read, so I was very happy to give it five stars.

5 "Fifty Shades of Shade" stars

Shade is Eidolon’ brother, i.e. a Seminus demon and consequently a male-slut. He cannot help it since he needs sex in order to survive.
On the other hand he is so lost in his little bubble where everything ends up in sex, that he does not really pays attention to people’s feelings and the way he truly hurts them.

Runa used to be his lover. She also used to be human i.e she had no clue about demons, the demon world and especially Seminus demons that use sex for survival.
Runa met Shade while she was working. He was good-looking, sexy, pushy (they had sex almost immediately after they met) and irresistible. All Seminus demons are irresistible...
So when she found him in bed doing a paranormal threesome, she ran away and got bitten by a warg (werewolf). It was her lucky night I suppose.

So now she's a werewolf and she absolutely hates Shade for his betrayal, while she considers him responsible for what happened to her.

The start of the book finds them chained up together in a dungeon. Neither of them knows what they are doing there, but they will need to cooperate in order to escape and survive.
They will be forced into bonding in the Seminus way and Runa will show her teeth. She is not that weak, stupid human anymore and Shade has a hard time not to fall in love with her.

There is some BDSM because Shade is into it and he uses it to help women heal inner wounds. But nothing too much. And nothing too believable and serious to be honest…

I did not particularly like Runa in this book; however she grew on me after I read the next books in the series.
The cave where Shade and Runa are hiding, far away from everybody is also playing a vital role in the next books.

"I will bear this pain for you," he swore. "If one of us has to bleed, it will be me. It'll always be me."

Just because I didn't start this review off with the "magical spermie" conversation and super-curious kitties, doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this book. I may not be hopping up and down in the same excited way, but there was still enough about Desire Unchained to keep me reading.
Photobucket

I do feel a little bit guilty that the side story of Gem and Ky captured my attention more than the main story of Runa and Shade. Why was this exactly? I don't even know if I can find fault with anything that was going on. Runa and Shade had a few smokin' hot sex scenes, but I think I never felt their love connection, even when it was made obvious. The brief BDSM interlude between these two was also bordering on bizarre. Not long ago, I read a book which handled "pain therapy" in a more convincing manner. In Desire Unchained, the same situation just felt sort of awkward. I almost felt like a creeper for witnessing their private moment. Something about the scene reminded me of an interaction between Vishous and Jane in BDB, but not executed nearly as well.

Pros :
~ Hot sexin' (of course...it's PNR).
~ Fabulous buildup of tension with Ky and Gem (my FAVORITE part of the book).
~ More Wraith time. I'm not sure why I'm anxious for his story, but I really want to see what's in store for him.

Cons :
~ The main story lost steam the closer it got to the end. I felt like we'd already "arrived" at the conclusion and were just waiting for the couple to finally get the last of their issues off their chests.
~ Some of the sexual scenarios could have had more buildup/foreplay. I'm not opposed to having a few sex scenes which are rushed through if you have other descriptive scenes in the book somewhere, but I think there was a lot of 'point a to point b' stuff going on in this book, when there should have been at least one more 'big' sex scene somewhere hanging out in the story - probably closer to the end. Because I'm less concerned about romance and/or sex when I read action-based Urban Fantasy, I tend to expect more from the romance side with PNR.
~ I missed the humor from book 1. While this was still an enjoyable read, I didn't feel the same spark that was there in book 1.

Desire Unchained fell right in line with the basic PNR standard. It was worth the read and entertaining enough that I'll continue on with the rest of the books, but I doubt that I'll ever re-read this particular book of the series.

“You can't truly hate someone you've loved. You can only hurt.”

Desire Unchained is the second book in the Demonica Series. Larissa Ione has once again delivered a paranormal romance with passion, suspense, and complex characters. Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the super alpha (and powerful) Shade. When Shade broke her heart, Runa ran as far away as she could. However, when circumstances out of their control bring them back together again, Shade is forced to accept the damage he has done to Runa. The physical attraction still exists between the two and now that their love is reignited, it will take everything they have to overcome the forces working against them.

description
"Oh, come on. My blood's eighty proof. You want it. You know you do.”
Told in multiple POV, Desire Unchained offers a rich text with an intricate plot. The more I explore this series, the more I want to climb into their world and never leave. These characters are loyal to each other, the passion is smoking hot, and the circumstances Shade and Runa have to overcome, making them unstoppable.
“And your skin, it tastes like me. I want to taste you everywhere.”
Overall, Larissa Ione has become one of my new go-to authors. Desire Unchained would appeal to paranormal romance fans who crave a passionate hero and driven heroine. I look forward to reading more of Larissa Ione and the Demonica Series.

5+ stars – Paranormal Romance

As amazing a read as Pleasure Unbound was, I liked Desire Unchained, book two in Ione’s riveting Demonica series, even better. Seminus Demon Shade and human turned werewolf Runa’s relationship is flawed, passionate, emotionally raw, touching, and full of sexual tension and frustration. The chemistry and tentative connection between secondary characters Kynan and Gem is sweet and heartbreaking. I was nearly as wrapped up in their story as I was in Shade and Runa's, and I really hope they get an HEA because they certainly both deserve it. The villain in the story is one of the creepiest, scariest, and most malevolent of any book I’ve read in a while (you can really tell that Stephen King is an influence on Ione). The alpha male Seminus Demon brothers Eidolon, Shade, and Wraith remind me a lot of the brothers in J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series and Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, yet somehow Ione’s characters are still utterly original and all her own, and that’s a credit to her talent as a writer. Ione’s writing is fresh, creative, witty, dark, and erotic and the inventive world of the Demonica series with its various demon races, humans, slayers, vampires, wargs/werewolves, and half-breeds all battling for coexistence is filled with sizzling sensuality and hypnotic action. Desire Unchained is a mesmerizing and sexy read...a well deserved 5 stars. The Demonica series is truthfully one of the best in the paranormal romance genre, and I can’t wait for more in Ione's fascinating, wicked hot saga!

Buenísimo! Me encantó.

^^ I WANT TO OPEN SHADE'S BLINDS!^^

There is a million and one things I love about the Demonica series, its all types of dirty sexy and crazy cool. This is the second book in the series and it does not disappoint, if you have not read the first book in the series I implore you to do so. I am spellbound when it comes to the demon world, it grabs and hooks you and never lets you go. I am gonna jump ahead and say this is my fave book of the series, and I don’t know, it might be my fave through out. There is something about Shade that blows my mind and I am gonna say it, he is my Vishous of the demon world. If that didn’t make you drop your pants and I don’t know what else to say.

We met Shade in the first book of the series, I am gonna say this, he didn’t make an impression on me like Wraith did, but my oh my was I wrong about him. The book begins with a little flashback which all leads to a situation that has Shade kidnapped, and in the presence of a human female he once bedded. Seems she aint so human as before, if you have no idea well, Shade is Seminus demon, which translates to, he is gonna be able to take the form of any species and impregnate the female of that species. Well his kind aint so loved, and he knows that but the change is welcome. A curse was placed on him, if he were to ever fall in love, he would gradually fade and be trapped in hell of pain, constant hunger and unfulfilled lust. Talk about not so awesome!

Now Shade is in the hands of a madman and one he knows very well. Stuck in a room with a female who hates him, things aren’t looking very peachy. Well a little experiment leads Shade to be bonded to the female called Runa, this is all kinds of wrong, but it feels all kinds of right. Runa is a werewolf who understands the situation she is currently in, she hates Shade but wants him like no other, fact being she knows he is all kinds of assholish. With a dangerous madman out to destroy them, and uncontrollable feeling these two are in for a ride of their lives, and by ride I mean horizontal.

Lets talk about Shade shall we, cus I love him. He is a dom, he is a prick but man does he rock. Runa is a great balance for him, cus she does not take his shit. The chemistry is off the chain, and the sex is hot, animalistic and erotic. I was crying from the pure joy of how awesome this book is. I even made up words like, awesomanity, smexalicious, and some I cant even spell. I want to pull on Shade’s blinds, and open his windows, he is effin sexy.

The other POVs offered is like a buffet of hotness, and I am biting my nails because I want books for all dem. I could go on forever about this book, but this is a series not to be missed. It is funny, smart and original. I loved it, 5 thumbs up, and a 5 on the PL (pants losing) scale. “Oh where oh where, as my pants gone, Oh where oh where could it be” naked!

I felt like I couldn't find the right words to describe my feelings after finishing this book. OH. MY. GOD! It was crazy amazing!!! The story was so intense and so dark, and it had me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning. I almost forgot to breathe while reading the fight scene near the end of the story. It was bloody exciting!

I can't explain what's going on inside of my head right now because I'm still wired from the whole Demon thing. I think I need more time to collect my thoughts! >.<

Opening Line: "It had been two decades since Shade had awakened on a strange floor, hung over and without a clue to his whereabouts."

This is book #2 in Larissa Ione’s utterly imaginative world of Demonica, full of demons vampires, werewolves, ghouls, humans and every combined half version of them. And I have to say that while I enjoyed book #1 Pleasure Unbound this one is even better. Ione’s world at UGH (underworld general hospital) just seems to get more awesome the further in we go and here we really get a feel for those sexy Seminus demon brothers and the bond they share with one another.

DESIRE UNCHAINED is Shade’s story which is sinfully dark and erotic (hello BDSM) however theres also a ton of action along the way and the witty between brothers banter is better then ever. Ione also serves up some very clever storylines, a great heroine, introduces new characters and gives our hero an interesting curse as well as one demented villain to overcome on his way to a HEA.

Runa is determined to make Shade pay; not only for making her fall in love with him but for cheating on her with a couple of vampires and indirectly causing the transformation that’s forever changed her (especially under a full moon) Shade’s been trying to avoid Runa as he was starting to develop feelings for her. That just can’t happen when you’ve been given a curse that states you’ll become invisible and plagued by insatiable thirst, hunger and lust for eternity should you happen to fall in love.

But first things first Desire Unchained opens up with Runa and Shade trapped in a madman’s dungeon, when he casts a spell that binds them together as lifemates they’ll have to stop fighting each other and work together to get out alive and before Shade starts to dissapear.

Of course this only scratches the surface of this multilayered story and what a ride it is. With Shade’s curse triggered we have the (not so) small issue of him or one of his brothers killing Runa to break it.(badass Wraith seems up for the task) Speaking of which, we’re given plenty of interaction with both him and Eidolon, with Wraith showing a whole new side of himself here. We’re also introduced to the very cool means of travel through Harrowgate and subsequently get some scorching hot love scenes at Shade’s love shack in South America, complete with an exclusive sex chamber and one domination scene I could have done without. Theres also a very touching side romance between the human UGH Doctor Kynan and nurse Gem which I enjoyed almost as much as our hero’s and hope to see completed somewhere down the line.

Here’s the beginnings of one of one of the love scenes I can’t seem to shake, it will either have you grinning or blushing next time you order coffee from your local barista;

He stepped in front of Rena. "Coffee" The word rolled off his tongue as if he'd said "I'd like to give you an orgasm" "Yes" she whispered because he could give her...oh, right coffee.

Yup this is a very addictive ride, mixing the perfect combination of paranormal romance and urban fantasy and I can’t wait to see where things take us next with badass demon brother Z…I mean Wraith in Passion Unleashed. Yeah you fans of Ward’s BDB might want to check this series out too, there's some fascinating similarities.

Really enjoyed this second book in Larissa Ione's Demonica series. The world-building is really great in these. I enjoy the background between the brothers, the fact that they have grown up with different mothers so have very differnet experiences to draw from, but feel that bond through their shared father makes for some interesting storytelling. Runa was a heroine a liked, although maybe a teeny bit less than Tayla from the previous book. But I loved all the werewolf lore stuff, and her relationship with Shade was intense, as was Very explicit scenes, and the writing is steamy and hot. I also love the setting at the demon hospital, and all the drama between coworkers. It's kind of like watching old episodes of ER with demons! Looking forward to book three!

BY GOLLY GAWD! Could this have been a little less awesome? because I LOVED IT! It was dark, gritty, funny, sexy, and did I mention HAWT AS HELL!

This is the second novel in the 'Demonica' series. This time we focus on the brother, Shade and his former flame, Runa.

It was such a passionate tale of two lovers from different worlds that were brought together under the most unfortunate of circumstances.

The secondary characters are worked into the story seamlessly. I am so fascinated with Kynan and Gem. It seems that Ms. Ione is creating a rather large story out of these two characters. I can tell already that their book will be my favorite.

I am so glad that I was bullied gently nudged into reading this series. It has not been a let down.

I'am going out to buy the rest of the series today.

Meh. I didn't hate Runa, but the secret keeping nonsense became annoying. Shade, ok character, but his "if there is a female in need, I must service her....only I can release them from their pain" super irritated me. Makes it sound like he's a dog compelled the impregnable bitches in heat. Not sexy. The second part of the complaint is his toy room, the bdsm, and that whole scene. It's over the top, unoriginal, and seemed tropey, like "well one of these characters needs to be a bdsm king, all series have one."

Runa, you let me down in the last half with your toy room request. Why's it always gotta go down like that, why can't you just burn it to the ground? Think of the germs!

The villain was a twist, a good, insane, blood thirsty one.

Hot sexy demons, sarcastic vampires, Slayers, organ harvesting, and werewolves...although it took me a few minutes to 'read' myself back into Larissa Ione's Demonica world, I was caught and fascinated by her latest tale. "Desire Unchained" is her second book in this series and tells Shade's story. He's a pleasure demon who is cursed to suffer unending hunger as a fade once he finds his true love. Ione's world is complex and unique, with dozens of different demon races and other creatures that 'go bump in the night'. It's also very sexy, especially when you consider that her demons are sex demons.

Runa suffered the hurt of an abusive alcoholic father and an uncaring mother so when she busted her boyfriend 'en flagrante' with not one, but two other women--well, she learned to deal with that pain too. But while running from his apartment, she was attacked by a werewolf. Quite the introduction to the paranormal world, eh? So she's managed to deal with everything life's thrown at her so far...until she wakes up...chained to a dungeon wall...and her fellow prisoner is none other than her ex.

Shade drove Runa away rather than risk falling for her and activating the curse that neither he nor his brothers have found a way to cure. So when he wakes up chained to a dungeon wall with Runa, he's not sure what's going on--but is pretty sure it can't be good. When he discovers his captor is none other than the deranged brother he thought was dead...well, he KNOWS that can't be good. And the icing on the 'not good' cake is when his enforced intimacy with Runa results in their mating. I'm thinking Shade will have a bit of explaining to do--and to a woman scorned no less!

Once I immersed myself back into Ione's world, I became caught up in Runa and Shade's story. The insanity and evil of the mad brother was enough to make my skin want to crawl away on its own and hide in some dark corner. But for some reason, this book didn't grab me quite like "Pleasure Unbound" did. I didn't feel as connected to Runa and Shade and I still can't pinpoint exactly why. I still enjoyed the book, and I can hardly wait for "Passion Unleashed", Wraith's story which should hit stores in April 2009.

Spoilers ahead

One of the main things I cant stand in a book is a pathetic or doormat fmc, DU is so special that there were 2 of that particular creature.
Runa was with Shade in her human days and walked in on him with 2 females having sex.She ran and was bitten by a warg and transformed. A year later when confronted with Shade she doesnt remove a vital body part with a dull knife, no she's there for him and his "needs". As a Sem demon Shade admittedly needs sex a few times a day to survive but he could've done the decent thing and broken up with her rather than cheating. Their nature seems to be the excuse for a lot of shady behavior with females. While the plot was interesting and I couldn't put the book down I just couldn't get past Runa and her understanding and forgiveness of Shade without even the benefit of a good grovel!
Pathetic female #2 is awarded to Gem, who not only saved her virginity for Ky but who has been in love with a man who was married and devoted to.his wife the entire length of time that she's known him. To compound the mess even after said wife is gone and she throws herself at him repeatedly he continuously blows hot and cold and admits to.only being able to offer her sex. Ky even asks her why she'd wait for him as she deserves so much better but she insists on him. She was an idiot with a bold and capital I!
Because of these females I couldn't enjoy this one much and considering the King of all manwhores is up next I may need a break before moving on in my reread of this series.

This second book in the series focuses on Shade and Runa it’s set a year after its predecessor and here these two reconnect in less-than-ideal circumstances. Awakening imprisoned in a dank dungeon Shade is astonished to discover his former human lover who he hasn’t seen since he so savagely broke her heart a year prior. She is also detained both of them captured and incarcerated by the demon butcher ghouls that are currently stealing supernatural organs.

Runa after having her heart ripped apart and stomped on by Shade's cruel prior actions has had an eventful year, directly after there encounter she was attacked by a werewolf (which we witnessed in the first book) she was left for dead but rescued by her brother now the current circumstances have brought her directly back into Shades life and she definitely isn’t the sweet docile girl he left behind.

There's a new enemy on the horizon one that detests Shade and his brothers blaming them for his current situation and he’s determined to make them pay in blood and pain especially Wraith the one he holds most accountable and he’s the main recipient of all of this enemy’s rage. Poor Runa gets caught in the crossfire finding herself bonded to Shade without conscious choice. To further muddy things she is keeping some secrets of her own just why she’s back and who currently she now answers to. Then there’s Shade who has a curse from his past hanging over his head and the more time he spends around Runa the greater the danger becomes for him.

These two were an interesting pair and whilst I initially wanted to hate Shade for his prior actions I couldn’t help but also sympathise with him. He’s basically in self-preservation mode both before and in the now and though he does consider his options I don’t think he seriously ever thought he could go through with any of them. Being a demon it’s obvious he is afflicted with a massive vein of selfishness his continued existence is of the most importance to him and any internal morals are easily set aside when it’s his neck or someone he cares for what’s on the line. This is an affliction that affects all of the brothers equally which is actually authentic to them being demons who make a clear choice to try and be better than their natural demonic natures.

Runa is strong and capable but unfortunately, she is also putty in Shade's hands. I definitely think there should have been some grovel from him and I was annoyed at Runa for folding so soon and not getting her pound of flesh as she deserved. But still, I did like them both and they had great chemistry together. A slight observation I can’t help but think that Shade is now only faithful to Luna due to their bond that prevents otherwise. I still thought he definitely grew to love and appreciate her but his continued fidelity at least initially wasn’t a conscious choice but rather a necessity born from his forced mating.

This manages to progress the story further and expand this world a lot I appreciated all of the extra content that made this feel so fleshed out we are also treated to further breadcrumbs in the Gem and Kynan situation so I’m looking forward to experiencing their evolving story throughout the course of this series.

This is a great paranormal series that is more than just romance there is a whole lot more going on here and this manages to construct an elaborate world that is continually expanding and evolving its so incredibly detailed that you almost feel a part of the whole fabric of it also definitely read this in order if you want to get the most from it overall It’s well written and a very engaging series I’m so glad now that I decided to do a full reread.

Desire Unchained in book 2 in the Demonica series, focusing on Shade, the middle of the 3 Sems brothers.
Shade find himself in a dungeon with a beautiful woman, Runa, who just happens to be one of his ex-girlfriends. When he finds out how and who put him in the dungeon, he is shocked that the demon is still alive and scared at just how sick and evil he really is. Shade’s only thought is that he has to get himself and Runa out of there so he can warn his brothers about the new evil. Of course, things go from bad from worse, when Shade’s dreaded Maluncoeur curse kicks in and Runa is to blame.
I honestly thought that I would never enjoy a book about demons, but they really are not that evil with a few exceptions, of course. The three brothers, Shade, E. and Wraith, really do have a family bond and love for one another. The love/hate relationship that Run and Shade share, make for some pretty hot sex. I was so engrossed in the story, you forget the M/C are actually evil. I am really enjoying this series, and cannot wait for the next book, which is Wraith’s story.

I almost starved myself whilst reading this book. It was so damn good I didn't even want to put it down to eat. My poor Kindle is traumatised; it has been dragged from pillar to post for the last few days.

I don't know what to start with first. There was so much going on in this book... From Shade and Runa, to Eidolon and Tayla, to Wraith, Kynan, Gem and then the 'bad guy'... Honest to God, I was worried about getting mental whiplash!
But it was fantastic, not one single dull moment throughout the entire book. I loved every single second.

Shade:
I don't know what I had expected of Shade, but I have to admit that he completely shocked me. There was so much more depth to him than I could've imagined. Learning about his 'gift' was really hard. I origionally thought that it suited him perfectly and that he was happy with it. But the more we get to know him, the quicker you realise that it's more of a burden. Feeling compelled to help draw the darkness out of these women lays heavy on his heart. He hates what he has to do to help them and slowly but surely it's tearing him apart.

Runa:
I think Runa may have just turned me into a lesbian; I loved her so frickin much. LOL
She has faced so much in her life, so many things that could've destroyed her but she never let it get her down.

Their relationship:
I really liked the fact that Runa and Shade had been together before. I hated Shade for hurting her so badly in the past and not even giving a shit.
The fact that when they met next, Runa was so much stronger than before just made me respect her even more. Her heart had been broken and she wasn't about to let that happen again.
Shade was constantly pushing her away, but she never ran off crying like a baby. She saw the best in him and was determined to make him see that she would always be there for him, no matter what. When their lives were spiralling out of control she was beside him, loving him and being strong for him, making him realise that they would face everything together. She really was incredible.

'"I... need... you."
His words washed away the hurtful things he'd said last night. He needed her. "I'm here. Take what you need."

Shade alone is like sex personified, but add in a horny Runa and you're about to see something real special. LOL

'"Damn you," he said, is a voice that had been scraped over sandpaper. "Damn you for making me burn like this. For you."'

Shade cannot get enough of her, it was so damn sexy. I loved seeing their bond grow and Shades feelings for her deepen.

'"I felt your desire from New York," he gritted out. "I promise we won't spend another night apart as long as we both live. Last night I was heavily sedated, but tonight I won't be, and nothing will keep me from you."
Holy shit, *fanning face*.

Together, they're combustible. My heart was in my throat half of the time, dying to see what was going to happen between them...

"...because loving you hurts. And yet, I still come back for more."
"Stop saying that."
He stumbled backward, tripped over the phone. "Stop saying you love me."
"Then make it stop. Hurt me. Make me feel on the outside the way I feel ion the inside."
"Runa,"
he moaned. "Don't so this. Please don't do this."

Wraith:
Wraith has completely stolen my heart. We saw so much more of him in this book and actually got to see the softer side of him. For me the best parts were between him and Kynan, them slowly becoming friends but not wanting to admit it to anyone. LOL. But behind the humour, these were the deepest conversations we've ever seen from Wraith.

'"You're the one who said you don't care about anyone or anything." Wraith went taught, as if he were offended.
"That doesn't mean I like to see the people around me suffer."
Kynan snorted. "Yeah, you're a real tender guy."
"I would take away your pain if I could, human."
The words were spoken so softly Kynan barely heard them, and then Wraith was stalking away as though his feet were on fire.'

My God, this review has gone on forever, sorry. I'll leave it there, but there is so much more I could say.
The bond between Shade, Wraith and Eidolon is beautiful to see and has survived so much. I cannot wait to see more of them all.
The storyline in this book continues on from the first book and is just getting better and better. I am dying to see where it goes next.

A huge let down after the first book. I can see why so many people have loved this and I understand their reasons, but it touched so many quirks of mine it couldn't end well.

Things I didn't like:

1. A heroine who physical appearence aside (she's nice, just not a stunner) is perfect: kind, thoughful, fierce, loyal, etc.
2. An author who is ashamed to put BDSM in her books just for the kicks of it, but has to justify it with some psychological mambo-jumbo. By whipping women who ask for it, Shade is able -though he hates it- to draw the darkness from them, their hidden traumas. WTF???
3. Too much sweetness in the second half, exactly what pushed me off BDB. Everybody loved everyone, even coldhearted, selfish Wraith loved his mate Kaine. Does this friendship remind anyone else of BDB?
4. So much BDB elements that honestly put me off. I'm not looking for originality out there, but really this was too much to ignore.
5. The references of the hero and heroine having sex in warg (=werewolf) form. I know it happens, but I prefer not to be reminded of it. I'm a wussy I admit it, and this kind of thing gives me the creeps.
6. The narrator's slightly nasal tone, especially when she was 'doing' Shade's parts.
7. The heroine's name. Ok, that's a silly reason I know, but everytime I heard that 'Runa' it sounded so much like Druuna, that horny cartoon heroine, that it was inevitable not to make the connection. Plus 'guruna' in greek is a female pig, also used as a curse. Not pretty at all:)

Things I liked:
1. The secondary romance between Gem and Kynan.
2. The worldbuilding once more
3. Wraith
4. The fast pace and suspense.

I hope the next one's better than this.

In the second instalment of the Demonica series, Desire Unchained, the focus is on Shade. Shade is a tormented soul, cursed to fade away should he ever fall in love. Shade’s back story is full of guilt. Guilt that he was responsible for the deaths of his sisters because he left their nest unattended. This guilt is further exacerbated when his last remaining sister dies.

Shade falls in love, and in doing so, activates the curse that will cause him to fade away. I loved Runa’s character. I found her to be the perfect match for Shade. Like Shade, Runa also had her own personal torments.

I absolutely love this series. I find the world so original. Who knew that demons could have their own society, their own transportation system, and their own hospitals? The brotherly love between Shade, Eidolon, and Wraith is special. They care for each other, they work together, and they protect each other – though not always perfectly.

I found Shade’s “man cave” in Costa Rica absolutely awesome. A great kitchen, complete with all the modern appliances, a waterfall for a shower, a media room well supplied with DVDs, and a (ahem) playroom. The perfect getaway for a tormented demon.

The secondary story line about Kynan and Gem was also well done. And the evil one that shall not be named was so deliciously wicked.

I can’t wait to read the rest of this series – it’s just that much fun!

★★½☆☆ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Whoa. I don’t know when I have ever enjoyed a narration so much and a book so little. What a dilemma. Hillary Huber does a great job with her sultry voice and some of the H.O.T. sex scenes are elevated because of this. She does a good job of differentiating the voices too. I’d give the narration ★★★★½ stars. I’ll be looking for more of Ms. Huber’s readings.

Still, this book was NOT my cuppa tea. Consider that when looking at my rating. Maybe I set myself up. It has been almost a year since I read the first book in the Demonica series; I did it as a “buddy read” and it was FUN. This one I read alone and it wasn’t. **sigh**

What I didn’t like – Warning: All spoilers!

This was one of those books I wished I had liked more because so many of my friends did. I know what it is like when the humor in a book clicks – as the first one did with me. This one just went a little darker than I was wanting right now. Don’t be surprised if I continue with Ms. Ione’s series, just not right away. She is a good writer and does well with the back and forth dialogue between interesting characters.

Wow, talk about a huge change in rating from the first book to the second. This one left a rather foul taste in my mouth.

Shade is an incubus demon who was cursed by an angry warlock when he caught Shade diddling his wife. The curse is set to activate when Shade falls in love. When this happens he is doomed to fade into nothing, becoming a kind of tormented ghost. So, Shade has spent his life avoiding any kind of romantic attachments in fear of activating the curse. Which has apparently given him license to be a complete ass.

The story starts with Shade waking up in dungeon that he shares with an extremely pissed off female werewolf named Runa. Runa, our heroine, reveals that she had dated Shade for a couple of months and it ended badly. This is where my problem started with the book. It's no spoiler to tell you that Shade cheated on Runa since its talked about in the first couple of chapters. Runa came to Shade's apartment one day to find him in the middle of screwing two women. This definitely set the tone of the story for me. I absolutely cannot stand cheating heroes. Its one of my biggest pet peeves. I muscled through the rest of this book mostly because of how much I had enjoyed the first one. The only reason why this book is getting two stars from me is because I enjoyed the subplots going on. Otherwise, Shade and Runa's relationship just pissed me off. I didn't really like Shade. He cheated on Runa and And he did nothing to redeem himself. There was barely even an "I'm sorry" involved. Runa spent a very short time hating him and then she suddenly switched to professing her undying love and devotion. Girl needs to grow a stronger backbone and Shade needs a swift kick to the balls.

Anyway, Wraith's story is next in the series. I'll be picking it up mostly because I had it ordered before I read this one. Hopefully, its closer to being like Pleasure Unbound than this one.

Let me start off by saying that I love the Demonica series. But Desire Unchained was my least favorite. This 2nd book in the series features Shade, a paramedic and a Seminus demon. Like all Seminus demons, Shade is a man whore. He can't really help it. For him, frequent sex is a biological imperative.

The book starts off with Shade and his sister kidnapped. He wakes from his attack, chained up in a dungeon. Among the prisoners there, is his ex-girlfriend Runa. Back when they dated, Runa was human, but now she's a warg (werewolf). Their relationship ended badly... Runa had walked in on Shade in bed with two other women. His response was to invite her to join them. It was when she ran out of the apartment in tears, she was attacked by a warg and infected with lycanthropy.

It turns out that the kidnapper is

Anyway, Shade has a curse on him that says if he ever falls in love, he'll turn into, well, a shade. He will no longer be corporeal, alive only to feel unrelenting hunger and solitude for the rest of his existence. So clearly, Shade isn't looking for love. But Roag figures if he sets up Shade and Runa as mates, Shade will eventually fall.

All that is pretty interesting and I like Runa. Shade, not so much. It also seems that Shade has a "gift" where he can draw out a woman's deep pain with some BDSM. This is where they lost me. I'm all for people getting their jollies however they like them. Live and let live. But this did not appeal to me. The whole concept was a turnoff and the scene where Shade "helped" Runa made me cringe. I felt like Runa was testing her growing empowerment throughout the whole book. We saw her grow from a weak woman to this strong warg -and then all of a sudden, Shade needs to whip her to help her get over her mommy and daddy issues? Really?

Moving on. It was cool to see Kynan, our former demon-hunter, working with the guys at Underworld General. I want so much for him to return Gem's feelings. And I want to kick him in the man-jewels for how he has treated her. But I am captivated by their scenes and they are a great secondary story.

is a great bad guy. The story is unique and intelligent. And the world building manages to be both clear and complex.

If you like the Demonica books, you can't skip this one. Despite the parts I didn't like, there are plenty of parts that really did work that make it a good read. 3 1/2 stars.

I did enjoy this installment of the series better than the first, but authors piling on as much emotional dreck as they can on heroes is getting old... fast. It's not bad enough that these brothers are Seminus demons and each is getting ready to go through the 'sgenisis change that can change them into mindless raping animals. Oh, no, each one also has to have a curse (or two or three) on top of that, and it increases more with each book, it seems.

I really liked Runa, but I thought she gave in to Shade way too quickly. It's not even the fact that she walked in on him with two other women and then - while running away from that - was attacked and turned into a werewolf. I was more pissed off that Shade didn't seem to really be interested in her until after her change; in parts, it's almost as if he liked the werewolf, but not the woman who went with it. And his Umber side, where he sees the darkness in females and has to help them release it - that was the weakest part of the book. If you're going to include BDSM and it's not to bring sexual pleasure to either one of the protagonists, why include it? Okay, Shade's past with it provided some character development to him, Runa, and Wraith, but other than that, it felt out of place and extremely uncomfortable. I didn't really buy that it helped Runa, and I don't think Ione sold it like she believed it either.

However, I am looking forward to Wraith's book, and even more so to come conclusion of Kynan & Gem's relationship. B

BTW: on a formatting note, this is one of the best formatted ebooks I've ever read since I bought my Sony Reader. No crazy jumps in lines, no irregular spacing, it read exactly like a mass-market.

Although this is the second book of the Demonica series, Desire Unchained is the last book I needed to read. I took my time reading this one because it was the last one for me and it's a loooong time until Eternal Rider comes out.

The Demonica series has just become one of my all time favs. It has everything I want in a good book. It's action-packed, filled with thrilling twists and turns. I love the action in this series. I honestly didn't expect that much action since it takes place in a hospital. I was wrong. This series is packed with epic battles between good and bad. Desire Unchained does not disappoint!

And now Shade and Runa. Shade wasn't my favourite brother but he started to grow on me more and more as I read. Ione is good in that she makes all her characters distinct from one another. And Shade has some issues of his own in this one. But when Runa comes into the picture and is forced into his life, Shade must now deal with the curse that haunts his past. Desire Unchained is a gripping love story between two people who are forced to be together, but they soon realize that what they thought was a bad thing is actually the best thing that has happened to the both of them.

Also, Gem and Kynan's story continues and it just gets better and better. I find myself always rooting for these two. I love Gem!

Now that I'm done the Demonica series, I have to say my favourites are Passion Unleashed (Wraith) and Ecstasy Unveiled (Lore) but my favourite heroines are Gem, Runa (Desire Unchained) and Idess (Ecstasy Unveiled).

If you haven't already check this one out, what are you waiting for??

Demonica by Larissa Ione

When I first read about Shade in Pleasure Unbound, I thought 'Wow what a douche.' I was seriously dreading reading this book because he starred in it but I had already bought the book so I thought what the hell.

And all I have to say is goddammit Shade! You are just....argh! If you were real I'd rape you on the spot. I would make you mine in a heartbeat. I never thought that Shade would be my favorite but he is just so sexy. He starts off incredibly cocky and full of himself and yet...as the book progressed, I found the amazing qualities in him and felt he really tried to make up for his past.

That's not all though. I am really surprised to say this but I absolutely LOVE Runa. She is so fierce, spunky, and full of life without being annoying and I couldn't help but think how perfect these two are for each other. Not only that but she's a werewolf! :D I absolutely love werewolves! They're my favorite paranormal creatures of all time. And I'm so happy Runa and Shade worked out. Their chemistry was so steamy!

Overall, I loved this book. I am absolutely obsessed with this series even more now and I'm dying to read every book. The plot was exciting, the sex is superb and this couple is just down right enviable. I already read Passion Unleashed - and I'll be reviewing it soon enough - but I can't wait to get the next two books!

Holy macaroni!! This book was brilliant! So many twist and turns, and lots of wicked danger!

Runa was such a delight to follow! Doormat turned big bad wolf? Epic combo! And Shade! Don’t get me started on Shade!
Cursed, paramedic and incubus!
And the plot! YES! I mean YEEES! It was so well-thought and executed perfectly! No dull moments! Action all the way!

Kynan and Gem! I am normally not into many POV’s but in this series I actually crave it! There are so many good characters and you wanna know what happens to them all!

Bonus info:
So excited to read about Wraith! In 2012 I read Eidolons and Shades story, and I never got a change to continue the story ( I don’t understand how I could have been so STUPID) but NOW I am making up for it! Oh and I am gonna buy book 4 and 5, like now. Because DAMN I need to know how this series ends!

I couldn't get past Shade's cheating. Runa, Shade's girlfriend at the time, caught him in the middle of a threesome and what did he do? Invited her to join them! She was emotionally distraught and ran away just to be bitten by Luc and turn into a wrag and infected with lycanthropy. Runa who once was a timid, innocent character became angry and bitter.

The whole concept of Shade helping other women emotional pain disappear through BDSM was a turnoff and the scene where Shade "helped" Runa only made me cringe. Isn't the whole concept of BDSM about absolute trust? How can one trust someone who remains such a hurtful jerk who still wants his brothers to kill you to save his own skin?

Runa Wagner is cursed and blames one of the demons for that.
Desire Unchained adds another level to an already interesting world. It also adds more factions into the mix. I'm not sure if I'll read this again, but I do remember how much fun I had reading it.
